First time driving in the snow today in my freestyle and as I was coming to a stop sign. I was braking and my car accelerated all by itself and I could not stop and went through the stop sign! I had my two kids in the car with me and it scared me to death! I am just glad there was no other vehicles around at the time. My car has done this in the past and its not safe at all but driving in the snow is extremely dangerous and I am scared to drive my own vehicle it seems to be getting worse. *tr

Multiple times waiting on traffic at stop lights, stop signs or just waiting to turn. My Ford freestyle will lurch forward nearly striking the car in front of me or propelling me into oncoming traffic and once nearly striking my wife while she was attempting to get into the vehicle. The freestyle will also stall in traffic while crossing intersections or simple pulling away from stops. *tr
While driving on freeway, RPM's increased excessively, pulled over, turned off and restarted car. Seemed fine. About 2 months later, slowing and turning at about 20mph, RPM's increased excessively and lost speed. Turned off and restarted, put into drive, but car would not move forward. Stalled out when pressing accelerator. Independent mechanic performed diagnostic said transmission needed to be replaced. Towed to dealer for estimate - they said that a transmission from Ford with a 3 yr warranty is on back order for two months! Had just paid this off and our extended warranty just ended 2 months ago. *tr

The vehicle lunges into gear - both drive and reverse. Rpms jump rapidly and car jumps into gear. I need to push on brake with all of my might to stop it from moving. Also jumps erratically when stopped such as at a traffic light or stop sign. It is much worse when the air conditioning is on. As the situation worsened, the vehicle would stall due to surging. Upon restarting when wrench light comes on and then the car will not move. There is no response to the gas pedal. After waiting 10 -15 minutes it will then start and run fine until next time. I had transmission trouble as a result of this. I had the transmission serviced but this did not correct the problem. The technician cleaned off the throttle body housing and it seemed to solve the problem....temporarily. Within 10,000

Lunging, lugging, while stationary or at low speed, forward or reverse, warning lights come on. I see this same complaint hundreds of times on this NHTSA site as well as internet searches. After reading numerous detailed issues and matching mine to specific complaints, it was determined that the issue is the throttle body. I took my vehicle to my trusted mechanic for removal and thorough cleaning. This inexpensive repair resolved the engine lunging issue. Please provide this information to Ford service departments via bulletins or whatever, so this problem can be resolved easily and quickly. The lunging is a serious problem, with the vehicle suddenly surging forward from an idling position with foot on the brake. I see that expensive, unnecessary repairs are being performed which ha
2007 freestyle sel AWD w/50,000 miles surges at low speeds and stalls at high speeds. The wrench light comes on and the vehicle enters "limp" mode until vehicle is restarted. The dealership was unable to recover error codes when I took it in for diagnostics. However, based on my verbal description of the problem alone he suggested replacement of the entire throttle body assembly, saying "this is a very common issue for the freestyle, 500, and edge." I am still deciding whether to spend the $1000 they quoted me for replacement (a firestone service center quoted me $750). For one, I can't understand how such a dangerous malfunction is allowed to go unaddressed. Two, how can the throttle body assembly, which controls the entire powertrain, not be covered by a powertrain warranty? And t
