Bought the car used, 2007 santa fe with 71k miles on it. 2 months after I got the vehicle, the ESC off light started intermittently coming on. Then one day it stayed on and that same day the check engine light came on. I noticed the next day that my brake lights would not come on when pressing the brake and that my cruise control would not engage at all. The ESC off light will not be on when I first get in the car, but the minute I hit the brakes, it comes on and stays on. Ever since the first day the check engine light came on, it has stayed on since. I believe this may be part of an earlier recall, but my specific vehicle did not fall under that recall.

Update for my 2007 santa fe steering, pulling. I went to the better business bureau the report came back there is a normal pull to the right. The consumer should be told about this problem since it affects the tires wearing out sooner than the tire manufactures states. There is a heavy pull when you accelerate hard at about 40 MPH. Is this normal? The wheel really turns the wheel to a half a turn to the right. Of course you have to hold the wheel but you feel it pulling. When you test the pulling on a safe area let loose of the wheel a little then you'll feel it move. I'm afraid when you tap the gas pedal a little on the days it snows; do you pass or not pass ,anyone or what? *tr

At a slow speed while turning (either direction, as incident has occurred now 3 times in 10 weeks) vehicle loses all power to steer and brake. Feels like the car has died, however the battery and check engine light are on. When it resolved, the engine was still running, brakes and steering restored. First two times the power failure was momentarily. Third time the vehicle lost power for 3-4 minutes and stranded me while turning onto major road from my neighborhood with oncoming traffic. Had car towed to local Hyundai dealer who kept insisting they would need to see the vehicle fail in order to know how to repair it. I said not good enough, they need to find another method to trouble shoot and refused to pick up vehicle. Now the dealer is blaming the power loss on worn front tires and the e

Gasket leaks oil onto alternator causing it to fail. Hyundai has a recall on the sister car Hyundai veracruz for this issue, but not the santa fe. I have spent alot of money on this repair and think that I have the same issue again.

On monday december 18, 2007 I got a 2007 santa fe to drive as a loaner from a Hyundai dealership. Tuesday night when I filled the gas tank, the vehicle would not start for about 20 minutes. I called roadside assistance who told me to call the dealership, who in turn told me to call roadside assistance. Brown's manager, ishmael told my husband that he could not help us. The next day I called the dealership service manager who said that the problem had to do with the remote starter on the key chain, which I could press twice and the car would restart. He offered another car to me but assured me that I should be fine. I opted to keep the santa fe. That night as I returned on the fairfax county parkway from herndon to my home, the santa fe died again. No amount of pressing on the remote rest

Crankshaft harmonic balancer broke apart which caused loss of control: ( of the steering, brakes, lighting, etc. ) the vehicle was in motion at a very low speed while turning into a driveway! Fortunately I was able to immediately stop and shut off the engine which prevented excessive damage from shrapnel. If this occurred at the interstate speeds, it could have proved catastrophic for myself, passengers and other highway travelers. My checking online disclosed there are many occurrences of this nature! Unfortunately I did not take photos.

While driving at a moderate speed suddenly my car accelerated a high rate of speed. As the motor accelerated I heard a very loud bang like metal . I applied the brakes but the car did not slow down, suddenly the car slowed down to the point that I thought the brakes had locked up. Parked the car and when I restarted the car, at a very slow speed I drove home. Mechanic took car and with his dianostic equipment the code for transmission problem was revealed. As a result I had the transmission replaced. Replacement of transmission has not taken care of acceleration problem and as a result because of it being a safety problem the car is only used for local use.

The nut that holds one of the rear lift gate struts to the body of the car came loose and we believe dropped down behind the body liner and possibly one of the rear air bags. Anyway, this allowed the rear lift gate to drop as it was only now being held up by one strut. The Hyundai dealership told us it would require removing the body liner and air bag to get into where the nut "may" have dropped to in order to secure it and re-attach it to the body of car, at a cost of $600. Since our car was out of warranty Hyundai did not feel they should pay for it, we content that this was a structural defect and has nothing to do with mileage, wear or tear on the vehicle, which by the way is in excellent condition. The dealership claims they never saw the vehicle and they never wrote any service r

At approximately 5:45 last night, while changing lanes and accelerating from 35 to 40 MPH, my santa fe suddenly floored its own accelerator pedal and would not release. Tried to 'fight it' with the brake pedal but nothing would release the accelerator, including pumping it slightly. The way we got the car to stop was by putting on the parking brake, pushing the brake pedal to the floor and trying to downshift the car in drive (because it would not let us put the car into neutral). When it got slow enough (15 MPH or so), we cut the engine and the car screeched to a halt, burning rubber smelling surrounding us. Only then could we put the car into 'park'. Once we restarted the car it did not do the acceleration again. Our dealer is pretending this is not an issue, though a very quick go

ESC off light is illuminated when vehicle is not in park, and check engine light is illuminated. Brake lights don't work (seem to be always on). I got the problem code from the vehicle, did some research, and found Hyundai campaign 092 covered these conditions caused by a faulty stop lamp switch. I contacted Hyundai, and they informed me my vehicle was manufactured (july 2006) prior to the recall date range (which started in oct 2006), and would not be replaced without charge by a dealer. This is the same problem as was covered in the recall, and Hyundai should be liable to fix it! *tr
