2007 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class owner complaints

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 Mercedes gl450. The contact stated that while attempting to enter the freeway, the vehicle emitted a strong burning odor from the driver's seat. The contact then felt her skin burning. The contact coasted onto the shoulder and discovered that her clothing was burned and the driver's seat was emitting smoke. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The dealer did not inspect the vehicle and the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. I was driving for less than 5 minutes with seat heater on when I felt burning on left side of my lower back. I felt the seat and it was very hot and melting. I immediately turned seat heater off, but I was in traffic and could not stop. The seat began to cool, but I smelled a strong burning odor. When I was able to stop the car, I looked and saw a burn in the seat about the size of a nickel. I took the car to the dealership that day; the service technician acted very surprised and concerned about my seat, and told me that they had never seen problem before. They had me set up a service appointment, the appointment receptionist said "how strange- we had a call yesterday about a gl with the same problem" I had my service appointment today. 2007 Mercedes gl450 on dec 11 2009 I noticed the smell of something burning while driving my SUV. Shortly thereafter I felt an intense burning along my left lower back. I immediately pulled over and exited the vehicle. Along the left side back of the drivers seat was a 1.5 x 0.5inch hole burnt through the fabric. I was using the seat heater at the time. Tl*the contact owns a 2007 Mercedes benz gl450. While driving 15 MPH for approximately five minutes, the contact activated the heated seats. Minutes later, she felt pain on her rear. She noticed that the leather on the front driver's seat was melting and on fire. She safely pulled over and exited the vehicle. She called the dealer and is in the process of having the vehicle inspected. The failure and current mileages were 27,088.

The GL450 has the balance shaft problem .It skipped timing and caused major engine failure.. This problem is prevalent for the M273 engine. The parts wear prematurely. The timing is affected and the 4 cam power train misaligns. The engine quits and the repair is usually over 4000.00. It produces 1208 1200 codes along with misfire codes. On november 17, 2020, I turned my driver seat heater and suddenly smelled something burning. After several minutes driving I decided to turn of the heater, the burning sensation on my back was intense. Once I parked, I noticed a hole in my seat the size of a quarter! I checked my clothing and noticed it melted the elastic part at the bottom my jacket.

After about 3 minutes of having my driver's side seat warmer on, we started to smell burning and the left side of my seat got very hot, so I turned off my seat warmer. When I got out of my car, I noticed a burn hole in my sweatshirt and then looked at my seat and it had a burn hole on it about 1/2-1" in size. What would have happened if I didn't turn it off if this happened in about 3 minutes? *tr

This complaint is in regards to a 2007 Mercedes gl450. I have had electrical problems with this car from the very beginning. 14 days after purchasing vehicle went into the shop. On 2 occasions my car shut completely down on busy road ways and both times Mercedes did not want to fix the car. Mercedes claimed a drink was spilt in the car on a computer system under the front passenger seat. On the first occasion lights started flashing and with in 30 seconds the car lost all power and had to be pushed off the road way. All of the doors were locked up we finally managed to climb out the drivers side. I had 3 kids in my car and the thought of not being able to get out of this car really concerns me. The ism (intelligent servo module) has failed in many of the similar Mercedes cars that I own. I can not start the car and can not even order this part because only a dealer can install this part. My vehicle is stuck in a parking lot and there is nothing I can do. I think this issue needs to be recalled.

I was driving my family to an afternoon lunch on the 5th of december, 2014, the day was chilly and it was a good time to have the heated seats on... After about 10 minutes of driving I noticed a burning smell and thought it was something in the area (it was actually my seat lighting me on fire), needless to say the smell continued to get worse and I knew something was wrong. After starting vehicle and turning on seat warmers, the car smelled of a burning smell and I felt a very hot spot on my back. I turned off the seat warmers to find a hole burned into the leather. All occurred on the driver's side of 2007 mb gl-450.

I was in my 2007 Mercedes gl450 and had driven approx. 2 miles with my front driver's seat heater on. I started to notice a strange smell and suddenly the cabin was starting to fill up with smoke. The dealer has been unable to determine the cause of the failure. This failure has occurred previously. The current and failure mileages were 11,139.

The steering wheel airbag spontaneously deployed with no prior warning sensors activated or collision (moments after pulling into driveway at home). Mercedes Benz refuses to take any responsibility, or at least inspect and replace the steering wheel and airbag. Driver's arm was partially injured due to deployment, not severe. However the concern remains of whether this could have deployed while driving, causing critical injuries. Should we worry about the remaining airbags spontaneously deploying?

Upon inspection, the contact noticed there was no space between the tire and the wheel well. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was found that the compressor for the front air suspension had failed. The contact also stated that the air compressor was replaced previously but the failure recurred. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 105,000. The VIN was not available.
