Purchased a brand new 2007 xterra in november 2006. In the summer of 2009 at about 33,000 miles I ran out of gas in the gas station parking lot when the gas gauge read that I still had a couple of miles to empty. Service engine light came on and I could not get rid of it. A friend and local mechanic said that the fuel sensor was broken. The vehicle had exceeded the warranty mileage and the dealer would not fix it for free. This weekend on christmas eve I ran out of gas on the highway after writing down how many miles I had left until empty. According to the mileage I had written when I filled up, I still had about 70 miles to empty but with the cold weather, etc. The car must have used up more gas than usual. Luckily, no one was hurt but this posed an extreme danger to us given that the ca

My Nissan 2007 xterra has been experiencing problems with the fuel gauge. I first noticed in late august of 2010 my service e gine soon light (ses) come on and it was not until a few weeks later I took in my car and was told my fuel gauge was not working properly. I have been now doing research and have just learned that many others are experiencing the same problem as I am. My gauge will mark empty after I have filled up my tank and show a full tank at about 50 miles after I have filled up the tank. My gauge will also go on e when it is at 1/4 of a tank and even at a half tank never knowing exactly how much gas is in the tank. I also read online that the 2007 xterras have a recall on the fuel system and I believe they should be replaced to anyone who is experiencing this problem free of c

Vehicle fuel level gauge does not work. Pegs high then goes low. Causes check engine light to come on. Car cannot pass emissions test due to faulty sensor. 2006 and 2008 Nissan xterra have had a recall on this component. I do not understand why not the 2007 which has the exact same component. *tr

I own a 2007 Nissan xterra it has 76,000 miles on it. The fuel level sending unit does not work properly. When I have 1/4, 1/2 tank of gas, sometimes 3/4 tank of gas the gauge drops to empty and the service engine lite comes on. This problem started at around 56,000 mi. I have read on line that his is an ongoing problem with the xterra dating back to 2003. Should this not have been a recall by Nissan? Fixed 2006 and 2008. With the amount of complaints, I think Nissan should step up to the plate and correct the expensive deficiency. I don't understand how they can fix a later model. *tr

I got the service engine soon so I took it to autozone to scan it and it gave the code p0463. I was looking around and found hundreds of people having the same problem as me. Is there anyway this could be fixed by Nissan with no cost to me since so many people are having the same problem. *tr

I have a 2007 Nissan xterra brought used @ carmax of white marsh md. I have had the car for 3yrs now and have had its regular check and routine oil change. In november the car started with this strange and load noise. I had new tierd replaced and took it back to the place to see if that was the problem, after persistence and taking the car back because it would skip and pull. The autoshop did a diagnostic testing. It was discovered that the radiator fluid was leaking into the transmission causing the car to loose some power along with the header not working either. I called Nissan and told them the problem. Well they sent me a letter telling me about an internal memo they had regarding this same issue. I was advised to take it to a Nissan dealer to see if in fact that was the case. I did a

Sudden loud noises/banging while driving. Pulled over, had vehicle towed to mechanic. Radiator found to be cracked. Radiator fluid leaked into and contaminated transmission causing sudden transmission failure. Learned Nissan was/is aware of this problem and has not notified anyone of preventative measures to prevent failure of transmission. "extended warranty" resulting from class action lawsuit requires $3000 copy for vehicles with 90,000-100,000 miles. My mechanic says this is a joke because radiators not cracking until at least this time. Now I have to pay $3000 I don't have to repair the transmission which I could have saved had I been notified to replace the radiator. I will not ever purchase a Nissan again. *tr

I am very disappointed and disgusted with the way Nissan has handled this problem. My xterra 2007's transmission did not go bad until it reached over 120k miles. My wife was driving cross country with my children and all of the sudden she felt the gears slipping while driving in a major interstate. Luckily she was able to drive home safe. I found out shortly after this almost catastrophic experience that there were many complaints regarding nissans transmission problems. I guess there was a class action lawsuit that only covered vehicles under 100k miles. Why is Nissan only providing assistance to vehicles under 100k miles if there is a there is a defect in the transmission coolant. They should cover any transmission problems regardless of what the mileage is. I took my xterra to aamco bec

I bought my 07 xterra 6 months ago from transitowne amherst and the dealership told me nothing was wrong with the vehicle. Now 6 months down the road the transmission has gone terminal due to the known problem where coolant leaks into the transmission and causes it to fail. I believe any dealership should have checked to make sure that a vehicle they were selling would not have this issue before they sell it. *tr

My 2007 xterra with 62k miles began making a whining noise when accelerating . Not sure what it was I took it to the Nissan dealer where I get all my major services done .the technician took a look at the problem and within min notify me it is the timing belt chain and guides , known issue for my Nissan xterra . When I ask him if he is sure he confirm he does few of this every month and that the problem is so known that Nissan has a service bulletin, with the title describing the issue and the symptom ! He has confirm the issue is with the plastic guide that is part of the design . Looking online I find many Nissan owners are experiencing the same problem . I am extremely disappointed with the Nissan brand and not sure what to do , if I replace the part , will it happen again as

Car transmission is slipping and stop moving. Transmission oil leak. Radiator water leak.

Last month the car seemed to start slipping gears when I got up to around 40 miles per hour. It was sporadic and once I let me foot off the gas for a second it seemed to clear and be ok. I started to see a slow leak of what I thought was oil in the garage where I parked the yesterday. When I mentioned the leak to a buddy and also told him that my heater was not working, he said we should check the coolant in the radiator. When we opened the radiator cap, there was a slimy brownish sludge all over the bottom of the cap. That afternoon, I brought the car to the mechanic across the street and he said that I had a radiator failure of some that has caused radiator fluid to get into the transmission. This is where the brown sludge has come from. He said the car needed a new radiat

Well the transmission and radiator leak took the my xterra in to Nissan mcgavock and they told me that I needed to get transmission and radiator replaced and now I have no car and me and my wife have to walk to bus to take my daughter to school and I go to work on bus and so does my wife.. They told me from mcgavock Nissan that they could fix it for 5800.00 dollars. This is a shame that you dont know what to do about helping people out and getting this fix. Xterra does not run it is broke..

My xterra would not accelerate from stop to start, then one late evening it would not start at all. I had it towed to my mechanic who said it was the transmission that needed to be replaced and the transmission was shorting out the fuse to start the car. I took it to another mechanic for a second opinion, he stated the same and this was a known defect in xterra, he also said that it will cost thousand of dollars to fix and even with a new transmission it will likely happen again because the electricity will burn out because of the defect. I called Nissan dealership, who stated that they knew about the problem, but was going to help fix it or reimburse me anything. I was stranded with a small toddler at 10pm in the rain and no means of getting home thanks to Nissan's known defect. *tr

I purchased my first vehicle in january 2016 at Kia depot of santa ana (now Kia of orange).. And I feel it is a safety hazard. One month after I purchased the vehicle, I noticed battery corrosion. About a week later I was driving and there was a loud thud that forced me off the road on a busy street and I had to call a tow truck. Turns out the emergency break was completed rusted and crumbled away from the car - this was not the only thing that was rusted I discovered. The entire undercarriage of the car is totally covered and being eaten alive by rust - this car was sold to me, by Kia, as a "as is" car - however, I refuse to let them HID behind that. Since I have bought this car, which was sold to me for a total of $12,592.00,monthly payments of $285.85- I found out that it was actually s

The fuel gauge in our xterra does not read accurately. We were told it needs a fuel sensor. Even when the tank is full we have to track the number of miles traveled because the gauge floats or reads "empty." I have read over 30 similar complaints just on this site. An investigation should be launched since this was a problem for vehicles up to 2006 as well. Obviously it wasn't fixed for 2007.
