Noticed rust on frame few years ago but the dealer said Toyota will not do a anything. If tacoma is being recalled, 4 runner should be since it is build on the same frame. *dt*jb

The frame on my 4-Runner is rusted out to the point of being borderline unsafe, as per the Toyota Dealer. I don't have a scanner otherwise I would upload the pictures. The invoice from the dealer has my contact info. Not sure if you want that info.

I have a 2007 4runner with currently around 180k miles. When I purchased the vehicle it had some rusting to the frame but nothing deeming it unsafe or dangerous. Within a matter of months the frame had, and still is, rusting and deteriorating at an alarming rate. I am not sure how Toyota has got away with this issue thus far but I'm pruong

Handle/lock on rear hatch is faulty. Mechanism on the handle/lock of the rear hatch of 2007 Toyota 4runner will no longer engage to allow hatch to be opened. Problem had been intermittent, now is more problematic. Cannot open rear hatch to access the cargo area of vehicle. Dealer service dept acknowledges this is a common issue. Lots of similar issues found online. This has not been a recall issue yet. *tr

The hatch latch has melted and presents problems in unlatching. The dealer denies this is a problem. Especially in cooler weather, I am often not able to open the rear hatch. My research indicates that many owners of this model experience the same issues. There is some concern that the cause is faulty wiring that overheats the material. Also, the replacement part is the same as the original; therefore, not resolving this issue. This should be a safety concern and should be remedied by the manufacturer.

Driving along the freeway in winter conditions I used the rear defroster for the back window, this caused the back glass to explode loudly, shattering glass onto belongings, animals and the road behind us. This caused drivers behind us to act evasively and myself as well making a winter driving condition more dangerous, not to mention the spray of glass that reached the back seats of my car with passengers. This has been well documented by other drivers and been acknowledged by Toyota in letters and technician bulletins for replacement of the windows, there are no warning lamps, it just goes from working correctly to exploding.

Mice have infiltrated the headliner area of 2007 Toyota 4 runner. They built a nest and chewed the wiring insulation for the sunroof switch which caused a short that melted the wires and caused the sunroof to malfunction. Dealership replaced the switch and repaired the wires for $360 since this was not covered under warranty. After exploring the internet other people are experiencing the same problems on Honda and several other models. Some of the conversations referred to the wiring insulation being made out of soy based material. Is there any idea why/how are they past the engine compartment and into the headliners and cabins? Could there be a design flaw? From reading the posts a strong possibility exists for accidents to be caused because mice are running across people's feet, etc. Whi

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 Toyota 4runner. The contact stated that the wiring harness had to be replaced due to rodents eating the insulation on the wires. The rubber on the inside the tailgate handle has melted and eroded. It is sticky to the touch and consists of a black tar-like substance. Year round the handle is difficult to latch. This is an obviously faulty part, and should be replaced as the manufacturer is well aware of this issue. I heard that Toyota shipped a punch of faulty door openers like this in 2006.

The first of my 2007 4runner door lock assemblies failed just after the warranty expired. For the second one, my dealership. The vehicle has just over 80,000 miles and the 3rd of 4 door locks has just failed and been replaced. I believe this door lock assembly is obviously a design flaw and is not an item I would expect to fail at all over the life of the vehicle, even one, much less three out of the four. My car is garage-kept and does not even come close to receiving abnormal use. *tr

Excessive sulfur/ammonia smell in the cabin during heavy acceleration. Reported issue to Toyota dealer (puente hills Toyota) during service. Dealer stated no tsb's issued for this problem yet, however, stated that this is a known problem with earlier models of Toyota 4 runners. Since Toyota had yet to issue a tsb for this model year, they could not do anything about it. *tr

Vehicle gives off horrible sulfur smell when accelerating quickly and sometimes even when slowly gaining speed after stop and go traffic on a highway. The dealership where I took it said that this is a known problem and there isn't anything they can do about it. Why do other vehicle's I own not do the same thing with the same gas? *tr

The battery died unexpectedly (about 3 years old) and when we replaced it and tried to drive it, there was a loud continuous beep from the dash and no brakes. We replaced the ABS fuse, which blew again immediately. We had to have it towed to the shop and it was confirmed it was the brake module. This exact issue just happened with our 2013 camry and it was replaced under a manufacturer warranty. I drive my kids in this car. We could have died.

I come to a stop and my vehicle pulls, like somebody hit my vehicle from behind. Its constant , it happens all the time. I did take it to a dealer and they said there was nothing that could be done, they advised Toyota had not come out with a recall yet for that problem. They advised it was a common problem with the drivetrain . I really do not want this vehicle any more if it is always going to do this.. What makes me mad is that I just bought this vehicle in july....... What can be done . *tr

Dt*: the contact stated while driving at any speed or at rest and on normal road condition, the passenger side air bag illuminated off. The vehicle was taken to the dealership, who indicated when the rear seat was folded and the front passenger seat touched the rear seat, the front passenger air bag becomes deactivated. The owner manual also indicated in page 92 of this characteristic. The dealership determined this was the way the air bag system was designed. The dealership recommended when the space was required for cargo instead of folding the rear seat, it should be removed or the front seat should be pulled forward to avoid contact with the rear seat, however this suggestion was not practical because it made the passenger very uncomfortable. The manufacturer was contacted, but

Vehicle purchased used july 2011 w/ 45k miles. In may 2012 at 55k had brakes repaired, all 4 wheels new rotors pads and hardware. In 2014 noticed brake fluid leaking from caliper and discoloring wheels. Dealer service verified front calipers frozen (guide pins and pads rusted in place as well as caliper pistons). This appears to be a design flaw as the caliper does not incorporate any protective boot for the guide pins or any interface between the pad shoe and the caliper body. The caliper body and guide pin appear to be easily oxidized, a fact that Toyota attributes to "environmental conditions". Apparently Toyota designs for the mildest conditions rather than the harshest. Oddly, it is only the front caliper with this design: the rear caliper incorporates a more modern design
