2008 Chevrolet Equinox owner complaints

I believe the Airbags on 08 Equinox's need recalled. I currently have an airbag light on and would like it fixed.

My 2008 Chevy equinox has had the airbag error light on the console intermittently on for several months. Now it is just on. Paid $124 to have it look at the dealership I purchased it from, currently has 55k miles on it so out of warranty. The said the sensor unit under the passenger seat needs to be replaced which mean replacing that whole seat cushion over $800, the part is over $500. With this airbag error light on the airbags will not activate on impact so this is a safety risk. Why would this not be part of a recall since I read the 2007s have the same problem. There has been no damage to that seat, this is faulty equipment. *tr

Around the whole airbag on passenger side is cracked and on the steering wheel a crack is starting on top part

Air bag sensor for front seat passenger turns the air bag on and off intermittently while vehicle is in motion, even with an adult passenger (over 100 lbs) in the front seat. This could cause the air bag not to deploy in the event of a crash. *tr

My wife was driving the vehicle home late when the service engine light came on traction control came on then service stabilitrak light came on and stayed. Made steering very difficult, like old time truck would have been. Luckily kept control or could have resulted into something very serious! Bad part no early warnings, vehicle battery has never been jumped or used to jump (read something about blowing mega fuse ) vehicle 5 months past 5 yr. Warranty with only 64265 miles on it .I have read of this occurring to many others, hopefully no injuries.this seems to be a problem that needs to be resolved. I am taking it to the dealer tomorrow. *tr

Got into my car that morning to take my daughter to daycare and I was turning the curb to get onto the freeway my steering locked up and was hard to manage. Looked down and there were two lights on traction control off and service stabilitrack system. No warning just gave out. Me & my child could have been injured if we were going any faster. Then it cost over $1200 dollars at the dealership. I have read so many issues with the same thing. There should be a recall on this part. There is no way that everyone who has the 2008 Chevy equinox is have the same issue. Not only is my truck still in the shop ($1200 plus) im still having to pay a truck note also. Can someone please take care of this. Its to close to christmas to be paying such high expenses on a problem that could have been solved.

Passenger side airbag sensor doesn't go on or goes on and then turns off while in car driving or stationary. Moving around on seat makes it switch back and forth. Looks like this is the same issue from the 2007 recall, but not extended to 2008. Haven't taken to dealership yet, but seems to be a common problem. Was sold to me last month from a used car dealer.

Driver door will not lock or unlock when inside the car. This is a safety issue as I would not be able to get to the other side of the car in order to get out. Window must be rolled down in order to reach outside and open the door . Vehicle was parked and I was trying to open the door with the handle and something came loose and door would not open from inside or with the automatic door lock.

My 2008 equinox has been having problems with starting, it's fine when it's sat over night hours but during the day when it's only sat a couple or a few hours it will hesitate and I've taken it to the dealership where I purchased it and they kept saying nothing is wrong but it continues to do it, so something has to be wrong and the passenger front window doesn't go down and I had been taking it to be looked at for the starting problem way before the warranty was up and I don't feel I should have to pay to have the problems corrected.) *tr

Leaking front and rear 2008 Chevrolet equinox, front is leaking into passenger and driver wheel well and back is leaking into spare tire well and running down into second row of seats. *tr

We were driving on highway at approximately 70 MPH when there was a very load boom and we unexpectedly realized that the sunroof glass had shattered, some of which dropped down inside the SUV. The sunroof shade was 7/8 way closed which prevented most of the glass from riding down on us. We were on the open road , no overpass, no road debris flying up, no evidence of anything striking the closed sunroof. Climate condition , temp was around 50 degrees.partly sunny. We do feel that if the shade on the sunroof had not been almost closed, we would have been involved in a crash if this sunroof glass had dropped down on us. Traffic at this time was fairly heavy! Our 2008 equinox paint has started to peel on the top. We notice a spot a week ago and now it is about 12 inches long it is bubbling and peeling to where the white is showing. Please tell me there is a recall on this matter we have only 72000 miles on this vehicle. It has to be a factory defect

My car has been smelling like gas for about a year and a half. I don't see any leaks at the bottom of my car.

First there was smell in driver side back passenger seat. Then the smell got stronger outside car, right driver wheel well. Took to my mechanic for over 20 years and he verified smell and was able to stick his hand up and feel wet spot on top/ side of gas tank. Both with car in motion and stopped. The 2007 equinox has a recall for the exact same complaint, gas smell in driver side passenger seat and wheel well. I called Chevrolet and there is a notice but no recall. They are using the same plastic part on the both cars and the part may deteriorate or defective on both years.
