My Ford escape's power steering suddenly went out in my while driving, it made the rest of the ride home from work extremely difficult and unsafe. I did my research and found there was in fact a Ford recall on this issue for my year and model car, however my VIN was not included in the recall, only the software update which I did handle in september 2014 at the dealership. The recall states the affected vehicles have a steering torque sensor that may not be able to properly detect steering input. As a result could remove the esp assist (electric power steering) we talked with Ford corporate and they said it was not part of recall but if the exact part that is included in the recall that will be replaced at no charge, they would work with us to have it replaced. Took the vehicle in for the 14s05 recall, which is intended to correct a steering issue. This occurred on 12/10/2014. The repair supposedly reprogrammed the power steering torque sensor to prevent the power steering from turning off while driving. On 12/28/2014 the power steering failed, which seems to be the reason for the recall. We took the vehicle in for repair on 12/29/2014. The Ford motor company denied repairing the vehicle because the recall work was already done on the vehicle. My complaint is that the service action completed on 12/10/2014 by the lawley Ford, silver city dealership, directed by the Ford motor company, did nothing to actually fix a known safety issue. In addition, it provided my family with a false sense of safety because it is reasonable to assume the steering is
Steering wheel had been intermittently vibrating for a few weeks, then message 'steering power assist failure' message appeared when car started after being parked all day. Power steering is gone. This vehicle has supposedly had this repaired as part of the 2014 recall.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 Ford escape. While driving approximately 10 MPH, the steering wheel shook and became very difficult to turn in either direction. The vehicle was taken to bob wondries Ford (400 s. Atlantic blvd, alhamra, ca) where it was diagnosed that the power steering control module was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact indicated that the vehicle was previously serviced per NHTSA campaign number: 14v284000 (steering); however, the failure continued. The manufacturer was notified and provided case number: [xxx]. The failure mileage was 107,000.*dt ('parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).')*jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 Ford escape. While driving approximately 55 MPH, the power steering seized without warning. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence and then to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering column needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v284000 (steering). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 Ford escape. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 35 MPH, the steering wheel seized. The contact had to maneuver to the side of the road. The vehicle was driven to an independent mechanic. The diagnosis was that the torque sensor of the steering column was damaged and needed replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact also stated that the vehicle was repaired under a software manufacturers recall in 2014. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 89,000.
Epsa has failed. Drove to work and ran errands after work with no problems. Went to drive sister to work and could barely turn the steering wheel. Did not know car did not have power steering reservoir or need fluid. Car is drivable but very hard to turn. Did not know of any recall on this part until I looked up issue on the internet. Extremely disappointing that Ford knows about this and fails to inform their customers. Now looking at expense I really cannot afford.
Recall steering -after having a "software" updates on a 2008 Ford escape xlt in 2014 for Ford recall #14s05, now in 2017 my steering wheel is shaking while at a stop both in and out of gear. Researching the problem could be a torque steering sensor or a full blown steering column replacement. Both may lead to inoperable power steering or steering as well. Local Ford dealer quoted $800 for torque sensor replacement or $1800 for full steering column.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 Ford escape. While driving 25 MPH and making a right turn, the steering wheel seized and the wrench sensor indicator illuminated. In addition, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was able to restart after the first attempt. The vehicle was serviced per NHTSA campaign number: 14v284000 (electrical system, steering), but the remedy failed to repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 103,000.

When the temperatures drop to below 25 degrees - the accelerator / gas pedal will often "freeze" and not allow acceleration and/or will stay depressed even with application of the brake (car still stops) and idles very high when in neutral. When starting from a traffic light at times the vehicle will not accelerate properly. *tr
At times before acceleration, the accelerator gets stuck. The vehicle continues to go unless the brakes are applied. There have been times when I am in traffic and it has happened. The sticking happens either at a stop sign, traffic light, or simply just leaving out of a parking lot. Sometimes it may happen if I am coming out of a turn. Its scary when I am on a busy highway, street, or on/off ramp and there is other traffic speeding behind me. I can not identify the part that is causing this. It may have something to do with the speed control system of the vehicle. This happens quite often since I purchased the vehicle from a family member in july. Most recent was on 12/29/2020.
Purchased a 2008 Ford escape new in 2008 and have had it worked on 3 different times for the accelerator sticking caused by the throttle body. It was never replaced. Now because I have 116000 miles on it I just got taken advantage of. Once again the accelerator stuck and luckily I was able to pull over and hold the brake and shut it off. I paid $110 to tow it to a Ford dealership. Well now it is going to cost me $1000 to replace the throttle body. This should have been done previously and now it seems to be on me or risk being killed due to this safety issue. Even if it was never issued as a recall item I have had issues with this since purchasing it new in 2008. I want something done. I did call Ford mtr co and was told they could not help me because the vehicle has over 100000 miles on I
When the vehicle is first started, it is impossible to press the accelerator and after a few moments, the accelerator will depress. There is no indication when the accelerator will be free and great care must be taken to avoid a sudden lunge forward. Just allowing the vehicle to idle and warm up does not seem to make any difference. *tr

My car was sitting and I went to start it and the "regen brakes disabled" and "check brake system" came across my dash. Its a long story but I took it to courtesy Ford in okemos, mi and they said that the hydraulic control until needed to be replaced, this part would cost me $4,620.20 to replace. I have only owned this for just over a year.I owe $10,080.00 on this vehicle, I cannot get a loan to fix it and courtesy Ford said they would only give me $3,700 for it! I am a single mother of 2 and cannot afford to fix this vehicle! I emailed Ford and they said they cannot do anything about it or help me out fixing it. I am without a vehicle and stuck with a $10,000 debt!!! Ford needs to recall the hybrids due to their faulty part not to mention it it unsafe to drive. The dealership told me that
I just bought a used 2008 Ford escape a couple weeks ago with 113,000 miles on it. A few days after I bought it I went to stop at a light from a speed of 50mph and the brake pedal went to the floor and I lost all brake power. I went onto the shoulder and almost into a ditch to prevent hitting the car in front of me. The dash read "check brake system" and "regen brakes disabled". The ABS and brake lights are also illuminated. The vehicle cannot be driven and I am being told it is likely a failed hydraulic brake control unit which is a known problem and very expensive. How has Ford not issued a recall for an extremely dangerous and known problem?
He hydraulic control unit failed on my vehicle. This seems to be an issue that has arisen with a great deal of owners of Ford escape hybrids over the last several years. I had to have the entire hcu system replaced at a Ford dealership service department. As it was not covered by warranty, nor considered by the company to be an issue deserving of a recall, I had to pay out of pocket for the entire thing, which totaled $4,863.00 (and it took five days to get the work completed). I also had to pay to rent a car for the several days it took to get the part and perform the work, which was another $200.00. Due to the high cost of this repair and the frequency with which it is affecting consumers, I believe that this issue should become a recall and people should be reimbursed for the repairs th

While driving it was hard to push on brakes and when I took my foot off of the gas it vehicle would stop. So I took it to mechanic and he said my brakes went w caliber or wheel bearing. A few weeks later same thing happen all needed replaced now again its happened. This is to much something has to be wrong. It would pull back and burn the brakes up. I mean it was hard to get it two 25 miles per hour. This is the 3rd time. This happened while I was driving each time. The vehicle felt like it was pulling back, hard to go forward then hard to push on brakes then the brakes stated smoking.

I was traveling on the expressway in the left hand lane doing about 70 MPH when the engine shutdown and a stop now safely message appeared on dashboard. I was able to pull over turned off the vehicle was able to restart and continue to my destination. This again happened on the way home the same day there was no problem found at the times I pulled over and both times was able to continue. I had no ability to accelerate and fortunately was able to pull over, this was a scary. *kb

ABS control module / hydraulic control unit hcu has gone out on my 2008 Ford escape hybrid. It has left me with very little braking ability. If this was to happen on the hwy it could have been catastrophic. It is a $6,000 repair and it apparently requires a full replacement of the $4,000 part, the ABS control module / hcu. Ford needs to take ownership of this issue and correct the problem with their faulty hcus in these cars!
