First occasion was when my wife was driving the car and she was parking and the car surged. It happened on several more occasions and on 12/17/2010 Ford replaced the throttle body and air intake. Then on 2-03-2012 and 12-10-2012 car surged again. Ford dealer ship said they could not find cause. On 12-10-2012the car was coming to a stop and the engine began to surge reach around 4000 RPM, I pushed the brake and it continued to surge and I had to put in it in neutral to stop it from lunging into the intersection. It continued to surge as I put it into gear and moved through the intersection. It then stopped surging and behaved normally. I took it to the dealership and they said they could find nothing. I has since surged again while stopping at a stop sign. *tr

Transmission stuck in high gear while in motion. Can't accelerate from stop to maintain speed. Power cycle fixed. Intermittent issue.

12/22/2015 64,000 mi ODI #10811625.0

There is an intermittent problem with the transmission that has happened about 4-5 times in the past 14 months. When pulling onto a road from a stationary position (like from a driveway or gas station), the transmission had a horrible grinding sound, the vehicle would jerk around for a couple seconds and the gas pedal would not work. It felt as if there were rocks in the transmission. Then, after several seconds, it would be back to normal. I tried taking it to the pegues hurst dealership but since they could not duplicate the issue, even though the vehicle is still under warranty, they say they could not do anything about it. The taurus x has about 64,000 miles on it currently. It most recently happened on about december 7th 2015. If this happens again while pulling into traffic, it could

We have been having transmission problems since we bought this car, they keep re-setting the computer so it does not show any codes now that it is out of warranty we need to purchase a new transmission on a car that is only 2 years old. The dealership says that they are not willing to help with this even though we have already purchased a new cooling system for the transmission, they have changed the throttle body and it has been in numerous times. As of friday dec 3,2010 they told me that we needed to purchase a new transmission so we told them that we wanted to have are car back after I got my car back they reset the code again when they put it back into my car. I took it to a transmission place it is not showing any codes... Ford did not fix the car they just re-set it 5,677 miles -

I wanted to bring potential fire hazard safety recall to your attention. I own a 2008 Ford taurus x with 42,000 miles on it the transmission fluid leaks from the passenger side driveshaft yolk (where the shaft enters the trans case). Car is in excellent condition never in accident. Trans fluid drips onto exhaust and then burns to a point of charring on the exhaust (I can send pictures). I have scheduled a service at my local Ford dealer (rt 23 Ford, butler, nj). I hope they fix the problem, but since it is a fire hazard I had to share this detail with you in case a recall should be considered. The taurus x is a seven passenger family car and I wouldn't want to see a tragedy if a $100 seal replacement can avoid the issue. *tr

Less than 80k miles, the car's transmission acts like it lost first gear. The dealership now tells me that this less than 5 year old car needs a completely new transmission at a cost of $5,000. I understand through online forums that this problem is fairly common. Unbelievable that Ford isn't doing anything about this. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 Ford taurus x. The transmission will not down-shift properly. This condition causes her to increase her stopping distances. On one occasion the transmission shifted into a higher gear, but the vehicle would not accelerate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer multiple times for inspection. Since the technicians could not identify the cause of the failure, nor locate any error codes, they could not provide a remedy. The failure mileage was 28,000. Updated 11/10/09. *lj updated 11/10/09

The steering effort became very great in making turning right from a standstill. It requires intense effort when moving from a parked area. Steering is effected to a degree when at travel speed but less so in straight operation. All right turning is effected and requires tremendous effort. The same effect in either forward or reverse motion. *tr

I was backing out of a parking space when I lost all power steering. Turning the wheel made a grinding noise and on the drive to the mechanic's garage some power came back, but it was much easier to turn left than right. My mechanic reported that he found a tsb from Ford on this issue detailing the exact problem I had and how to fix it (replace rack and pinion unit, replace steering pump, power steering fluid exchange - cost approx. $1600) Ford is aware of this problem. This is a safety issue. These vehicles should be investigated. *tr

I was driving home on city streets when the power steering went out. Car became almost impossible to turn, even using all my strength. I could not have reacted to any obstacle that suddenly presented itself, and I could hardly make turns, even at very low speeds. It was a dangerous situation.

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 Ford taurus x. The contact stated that the fuse heat sensor failed and spontaneously caused the seat to catch fire. All of the components that operate the seat heater failed. There was a hole the size of a fist that burned through the seat. Ford motor company stated that this was a manufacturer defect. They further stated that they would replace the seat under warranty and that if the contact wanted another vehicle, it would have to catch fire two more times to qualify for the lemon law. The contact was able to extinguish the fire himself. There were no injuries. His wife was protected from the flames by her coat and a seat pillow. The failure mileage was less than 1,000 and current mileage was 2,000. Updated 01-11-08. *kb

The driver's side outboard seat pivot (5f9z*7460593*ba) failed causing the 2nd row seat fold down/release to be inoperable. The part was removed and replaced under warranty on 22 sep 2010. On 19 may 2011 the seat again became inoperable and was repaired. Method of repair was not listed on the service order. On 10 dec 2013 the seat pivot failed again. I do not have children so the seat mechanism has not be abused. The fold down feature of the seat to increase the flat cargo space has probably only been used six times since the 22 sep 2010 repair. The third row seats are used infrequently. An internet search for the defective part number revealed that other owners have experienced the same problem (also on the drivers side). My concern is that passengers in the third row seat might be

Vehicle lost all power, including brakes and steering twice. Once at approx. 8,000 miles and again at approx. 8,660 miles (may 2009). Vehicle made loud grinding noise and became very sluggish while driving approx. 15 MPH. At approx. 15,900 miles twice within 1/4 mile (nov.2009). Dealership says they cannot duplicate any of these events or find a reason that they may have occurred. Obviously, I am not comfortable driving this vehicle as I'm not sure what it's going to do (or not do) next. There has to be a reason for these events and I'm afraid that I may be in a situation when the next one happens that may cause a very serious accident. I have been lucky so far in that I have been able to steer the car off the road when these events have happened as each time I have been pointed in a

Dangerous design of relation of brake pedal and accelerator (gas) pedal. The gas pedal is located within approximately/4 of an inch of the brake pedal. And the gas pedal is on a 15deg.angle from the top to the bottom leaning towards the brake pedal. When brake is applied there is insufficient space to avoid the gas pedal causing acceleration and braking at the same time. Stopping is dangerous!!!! I called the factory and told them about it and asked if it could provide more space between gas pedal and brake pedal and was told no because is was a design feature and must remain so or loose the warranty on the vehicle. No crash or injury yet but close shaves have occurred. I feel on edge when ever stopping at a red light behind another car afraid my car jumping into the one in front of me. En

Paint on hood in bubbling and peeling in front near the grill. Took to two Ford dealerships and they would not cover the repair because no service bulletin or recall. I have seen numerous vehicles like mine of the road with the same paint issue. This is a paint shop issue at Ford chicago assembly where this car was built. *js
