2008 Honda odyssey exl hatchback lift gate struts gave out and fell on my head while loading groceries. The hatchback will open and close but the struts do not work. It fell with no warning of an issue. It can be very dangerous if one if not paying attention. Especially if children are near. *tr

Structure/body:hatchback/liftgate:support device---I went to open the back door on the van to get a stroller out. It was difficult to open and very heavy. When I let go the door shut on me. I had received a recall notice in the mail prior to the incident, informing me that the struts were bad and could give out unexpectedly. (ref #12v062000) when I called the dealership I was told my vehicle was under recall, but the parts were not in. After the parts arrived at the dealership, I was called and an appointment was made for the repair. Upon my arrival to the dealership for the repair, I was told my VIN was not under recall after all. At that point there was no helpful person at the dealership. It has been 7 months of weight lifting getting the stroller, groceries, etc. In and out of the van
Issue is the same as with recall notice 12v062000. The gas filled struts are not holding the lift gate open. Issue became more noticeable when weather was cold. Recall should not be limited to power lift models as the same struts are used for other models. I read many complaints regarding this issue when I researched online. My model is the lx. *tr

Vehicle purchased in april of 2013. Rear tailgate gas struts had to be replaced in may 2014 due to complete failure. Same OEM was reinstalled by dealer and has failed again less than 18 months later.
Third row seats do not latch properly when converting from stow away position to upright seating position. One must align the latching mechanism requiring one to first lift the seat from the rear, then move to the front of the seat in the cabin and physically align the latching mechanism. This procedure is done while the vehicle is not in motion. This deficiency was first noticed with passengers seated and the vehicle in motion as inertia caused the seat to rock backwards upon acceleration. This is clearly not the design intention. This occurs everytime the seat is converted. The date on this form is not applicable.
The automatic sliding door came off the track and fell off while attempting to open the door. The car was parked and was being opened automatically when it became dislodged from the car's track. I spoke with a mechanic and this seems to be a common problem with the 2008 Honda odyssey.
fuel system 2 complaints shown
The van was operating normally until parked over night in drive way. Our driveway is slightly inclined and the vehicle was parked with engine facing forward. The next morning the car started fine and was warming up. 5 minutes later it stalled out and would not restart. I had the car towed to the dealership and after 2 days they said they said they could not find a problem. About 1 month later the same exact problem occurred. The van is again scheduled for service this week. I noticed a similar posting on this web site claiming that the fuel pump is located behind the gas tank and it was designed this way. Therefore there is no fix to this claim. Knowing this detail, I went outside and put the van in neutral to let the van coast to a more level state. The vehicle then started after the 2nd

brakes 2 complaints shown
Minivan was brought to dealer to fix an overly-soft brake pedal, per a recall letter. Car was returned with brakes equally soft (or worse), so that even a "panic brake" procedure (using 240 lb of foot strength) could not trigger the ABS, brake assist, or other brake safety features. Car was returned to the (same) dealer twice more, with no improvement. Calls to Honda brought no results. Although there may be a simple fix (e.g., bleeding the brake fluid), Honda made no attempt to diagnose and repair the problems that arose during a recall procedure.
On i69e heading north at 65 MPH after cresting an overpass hill, vehicle stopped in middle lane no brake lights lit, hit brake pedal to stop but the brakes never reacted as normal. Push the brake pedal as hard as I could but the tires never squealed on the dry payment. Unable to change lanes due to other traffic and ended up hitting stopped vehicle still going about 20mph. $2,700 damage to my odyssey and other car had heavy rear damage. *tr

Following a service in which my timing belt, serpentine belt, water pump, and power steering pump were changed, the tensioner bolt was sheared off twice while I was driving. The first time that this happened, the mechanic reported that he had never seen this particular problem before. The second time that the bolt was sheared off (both events were within a week of the servicing), the mechanic informed me that he had done research and this seemed to have happened to numerous Honda odyssey owners. As state above, this has happened twice in the past week while I was driving, once on a ramp, entering the interstate and once turning right onto a main road from a parking lot.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 Honda odyssey. The contact stated that as she removed her foot from the brake pedal to attempt to proceed from a traffic stop, the vehicle abnormally accelerated to 60 MPH. The accelerator pedal independently moved toward the floorboard and became stuck. In addition, the steering wheel seized abnormally. The contact was able to shift gears and remove the key from the ignition but the vehicle continued to accelerate. After applying the emergency brake and continually depressing the brake pedal with extreme force, the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and continued to drive without further issues. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing where the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repair

engine 1 complaint shown
My engine is using oil. It used 1 quart of oil in 2,826 miles of driving and 1/2 quart in the next 580 miles. The rate of oil use is increasing. Honda says these engines are passing oil thru the rings on 4 of the 6 cylinders. Honda will not do anything until engine light comes on or engine starts missing. I have to constantly check the oil level to make sure it is not to low. On the internet I found there are many odysseys doing this. Honda sold this van to me without being told of this problem until after I bought this van. There needs to be a recall on these engines to fix this problem.
