The gear shift id on the dash board has quit working, and we can only identify the gear that we have engaged by feel. Also, we have a recurring problem with the left rear turn signal flash going bad. When this happens, the turn signal flashes at a super fast rate. Both of these problems are safety issues. The gear shift problem happened while the car was stationary, the turn signal problem happened while making a left turn.

Thank goodness, there wasn't an accident. Rather, I heard that you should check your emergency brake cable every 50,000 miles. However, my car is so low mileage for its age that I decided I should have the cable checked anyhow. Then, I heard that many of the aftermarket emergency cables are defective. Thankfully, my son, [xxx] , knows someone who can check the cables. We tested cables from two auto parts retail stores. One failed to hold pressure. The other cable exploded rather dramatically. Fortunately, the people my son knows make emergency cables. From outward appearance, the cable they made was definitely superior. More importantly, when they tested the cable, it held pressure without dropping at all. My son once picked up his car from an auto repair shop (about eight years ago) after
On october 27, 2010, my wife was driving with me in the car and she started to brake for a red light. She was going about 30 miles per hour. As soon as she applied the brake, the engine accelerated and she had to use a large amount of braking pressure to stop the car. As soon as the car stopped, she took her foot off the brake and the engine returned to idle. Yesterday, I was driving the car at approximately 55 mile per hour and started to move into the passing lane when the traffic light ahead turned red. I applied the brake and the same thing happened. I had to apply a large amount of pressure on the brake peddle in order to stop the car while the engine raced on. As soon as the car stopped, the engine returned to idle and the problem was over. Yesterday, I took the car to the de

The first time I changed the oil in my 2008 mercury grand marquis when I started the engine there was a loud mechanical noise for a few seconds. I took it to the dealer and told him to change the oil and listen for the noise which they heard and was told all 2008 grand marquis do this .also I notice the engine is noisy in the morning when I start it. I think Ford has a problem with these engines if they all do it. *tr
Just bought the 2008 grand marquis, first day, radio did not work, (still does not work properly). Took the car in for oil change 2500 miles, also asked them to check out a noise the car was making. I was just informed yesterday I need a new engine. They the dealer said it was something to do with the timing chain at first the replaced that part and still had the noise. I will never own a Ford product, and they wonder why they are losing market share!!! By the way, this is my 9th grand marquis, I just traded an 2005 to get rid of it, it too had a noise they could not fix. Now my wife will not even drive this one when we get it back from the dealer. *tr

When the gas gauge registers below 1/2 tank, and the tank is refueled to capacity, it takes several miles driving( approx. 30-50 miles) for the gauge to register full. Also, if the tank is towards the empty mark, and the car is filled to capacity, and the car is driven, the low fuel light will come on, and stay on for an extended period of time. At times, before the car is driven, the car refuses to start as if it is not getting any gas. After it sets for a while, it will start. *kb
