Lost power steering as I was driving through a parking lot. Saw the message on the dash "power steering assist fault". Called Ford dealership to get my vehicle looked at but they are booked 2 weeks full. Asked about recall 14s05 but they told me my VIN was not part of the recall. I contacted Ford and they gave me the same information. Can not drive vehicle as it is too dangerous in winter. This issue seems to be very common with the 2008 mercury mariner and especially ones that were not part of the recall for the same exact issue.

The contact called the dealer who informed them the vehicle was included in a recall for the vehicle, NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V284000 (Steering), approximately 10 years ago, which had a software update as the remedy. The dealer confirmed the remedy had already been completed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. My car is well maintained. I do everything to keep it running well and now the power steering only works half the time. It is now also making a clunking noise in the steering wheel column and the wheel will shake on its own while in park. I have read lots of complaints about this same problem on many I these vehicles and something needs to be done! $1300 is a ton of money to pay to have a "sensor" probably the size of a fuse replaced! And it's very scary when the power steering goes out while your doing 70 down the highway! *tr

Power steering not working. There was a recall in 2014 and dealer states he fixed it, but they only did the minimum and ran diagnostic and they were done. They stated the codes didn't pop up that were required. Per my mechanic they are popping up as of today. I cannot get Ford or dealers to help me.

My wife was driving the mariner, she stopped at the post office to ship a package. When she tried pulling away from the curve she couldn't turn the steering wheel. She called me told me what had happened , also saying the display on dashboard was on , a message that read electtric power assist failure, I arrived where she was and drove the mariner home. This happened on a friday night so had to wait until monday to call Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673 to see what could be done, after all this is a national recall.
