2009 Chevrolet HHR owner complaints

The service ecs does not go off. Theirfor the car will not go unless the roads are completely free of snow and ice. The car just sits and spins. Traction control light on constantly .can not drive car in winter months

The hhr won't start. Came out from work and the key won't turn in the ignition and the steering wheel is locked. Everything is locked up.......I can't get the car to start. *tr

The ESC has gone out and the turn signals work, but now I have to turn them off manually. The ignition has been replaced twice. Once when it was new because the ignition would not turn off. The second time was a recall. The digital display which includes the radio, and information system turns on and off intermittently.

While turning I've had the electric steering go out my vehicle. During one occasion I was avoiding someone that had pulled out in front of me. I've taken the vehicle to the dealer and they say everything is normal but yet the vehicles electric steering comes and goes while driving. *kb

In addition, the contact stated that the ignition became fractured while in the on position as the ESC and the check engine warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was left with the engine running overnight. The next morning, the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was advised that the ignition switch and the solenoid in the steering column had failed. The failed components were no longer listed under warranty and the vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was unavailable. The failure and current mileage was 40,536.

The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. Fuel line corroded and ruptured at the fuel line heat shield area along the car by the drivers side just in front of the back wheel. It was leaking profusely, especially when under pressure as when the engine is on. Went through a half tank of gas in 24 hours. Strong smell and huge, huge fire danger. I found many such reports of the exact same issue from many other HHR owners. Took to Belle Tire in Petoskey Michigan for repair and they told me it's a very common problem with Cobalts and HHR's from the mid to late 2000's. Parts were only inspected by the repair garage. There were no warning lights. Found out by smell and sight and reduced engine performance.

The gear shift gets stuck when it gets cold outside and does not won't to go in reverse or diver. It takes a little bit when the car has to set and warm up before it will work.

Gas smell and leaks resulting from fuel line corrosion. I own two 2009 Chevrolet hhrs. I replaced fuel line on my first vehicle a year ago. Now the second vehicle needs same repair.

For approximately 6 months when I start my 2009 Chevy hhr panel, the air bag warning light comes on. It does not go out while driving. The warning light does not always come on as it is an intermittent issue. It only comes on at starting never while driving. I am very concern that the air bag is not operating properly. I found that gm did a limited recall on a connector. My vehicle did not come up for a recall.

My air bag service light continues to turn on and off at various intervals. I think it has to do with a faulty passenger underneath sensor but I'm not sure. I know there's been several recalls involving the airbag wiring and electronics so I think it may be related to that work. It hasn't been fixed yet or replaced. I believe it maybe related to the other airbag recalls or a faulty sensor from the start. This is a common issue I've come to findout.

Service air bag light keeps coming on. *tr

Chevy hhr all models, all years: when exiting my vehicle the drivers door handle snapped. It is made of plastic!! After research I discovered this is an extremely common problem with all models and all years of the Chevy hhr since all interior handles are made from plastic. This is a very expensive part because it requires the replacement of the entire interior door panel. It is a dangerous situation because once the handle has snapped the only means to open the door is to unroll the window and open with the ouside handle or to have another person open the door from the outside - not ideal, especially if one is in an accident or emergency. I believe Chevy should replace all handles with a sturdy, non-breakable metal handle. This would improve safety of this dangerous situation.

The vehicle was taken to a dealer and repaired however, the failure was recurring. The vehicle was not further repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 38,914.

After purchase of a new 2009 ss hhr. During the morning I backed into my garage and noticed a very soft brake pedal. I then started to proceed into the garage and when attempting to stop the vehicles brakes would not comply with my brake pressure and the vehicle proceeded to hit the side of our house. This became a routine situation upon "cold startups" and when reported to the dealer,(classic Chevy Chevrolet, grapevine, tx) after several poor stops, my service advisor advised "yeah we know about it". Approx : march 2016 - - 48000 miles, my cruise control system stopped functioning completely ,when turned on. Indicator light still works, researching I've found a simple burnt out brake light bulb may be the cause for this defective unrelated failure. Either way I'm not seeing any error messages or warnings alerting me to what problems I might really have so that they can be addressed. If there isn't a recall yet , maybe an investigation is in order. Tia, l-t-g
