At freeway speed the car wants to pull to left when turning the wheel to the right. Steering wheel makes a clunking noise when turning left or right. Hard to steer when moving slowly. Loose sloppy steering feel. The dealer is replacing the entire steering gear rack. Very costly. *tr

I was pulling out of a parking lot and my power steering light came on along with a chiming sound. My steering wheel locked up and I couldn't turn the wheel. The same thing happened again about a month later and a third time about another month after that. I have read that there are recalls for the power steering for other 2009 Chevy malibus but for some reason there is no recall with my car's VIN number. I drive on the highways a lot and I am a bit nervous to drive now. *js

Electronic power steering stops working randomly and then just stops with messages: power steering, service ESC, ESC off. Power steering stopped working driving on the expressway in the middle of traffic and in regular city driving which is completely unsafe. Steering wheel also shakes back and forth by itself. It happens while driving, while at a red light. This could be potentially dangerous due to not being able to steer away quick enough because of the strength needed to turn the steering wheel

Power steering msg comes on intermittently. Took in for repair and steering torque sensor needs replaced. This is listed for other malibu years but not 2009 as (NHTSA campaign id number: 14v153000). The repair cost 576.09. The vehicle is not listed under current recall but suffered the same problem. Problem occurs while driving and is a known safety issue affecting other model years.

I was on my way home, pulled off of the interstate and halfway down the exit ramp, my traction light and a warning message began scrolling. The message said power steering service ESC. I turn my car on and the steering wheel starts to shake. After a minute (or less) my power steering service ESC turns on as a warning and the steering wheel locks up. I can hardly turn the wheel on my own. I can no longer drive it safely.

My 2009 malibu 4 cylinder power steering(ESC) locked while driving in my community.

Engine light constantly on. Dealership does not know what is wrong. Showing code p1174 & no one knows what this is. Power steering quit working while driving on city street.ESC light will turn on. Dashboard lights will go on and off. Doors will lock them selves locking me inside.this is happening since august 2017-present (12-29-17).multiple trips to dealership where vehicle was purchased and all they do is reset sensor and tell me to wait until it breaks. I'd say it is already broken.

Erratic steering while trying to park. Chimes were head, message came across speedo, major clunk also started at same time. Sounds like right front. Another electric power steering failure from a car barely broken in, from gm. When will they take responsibility for substandard parts they import for american cars? *tr

Sudden Loss of Electrical Power Steering - it is the exact problem listed in NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V153000 . When the VIN number is scanned it does not list this vehicle as falling under the recall, but it is the same year, make, & models as those that do. The steering failure occurs randomly, several times a week, including today.

The ESC electronic steering control faulted while actively driving the vehicle twice in the last day I was driving it. If I was not a strong male I would have crashed due to the complete loss of steering assist. The fault message went away after stopping the enging and restarting the vehicle. This seems to be a common problem with 2009 malibu but my vehicle, by VIN is unaffected.

Over the past week, my vehicle was sending me a ESC service message and I noticed there was something wrong with my power steering. This happens when my car is turned on. The power steering turns itself to manual steering making it hard to turn. I have to turn the car off resetting it to make the power steering work again. While the car is in motion the steering wheel is pulsating and I'm afraid it will go into manual steering. I brought it down to my mechanic and he informed me it was a torque sensor. He then said he did some research and found there was a recall back in 2014 (bulletin 14116b.) this bulletin explains the exact same symptoms my car is having. He called hurd Chevy in johnson ri and they told him there was a recall. I then called hurd and they told me there was no recall fo

Lost power steering ability-turns off and on at certain times. Occurs while driving or is already on immediate to starting car. Very difficult to turn wheel. All other VIN's were fixed or replaced by gm for this exact same problem.

Seat frame integrity is compromised. Seat is not secured to the running boards. Joints where the tubes are welded are compromised and separated. Appears to be a fatigue failure. In january 2013, with much argument with gm about replacing the seat frame, they finally agreed to replace it for a deposit of $300. This before gm had to go to congress to explain their lack of action for ignoring the design defect of the ignition switch. It's about 4 years later and I'm having the exact same failure of the compromise of the welds on the replaced 2013 frame. This time gm refuses to do anything about it as they say they already replaced it once! This is the same problem! I have pictures from the original seat showing the fatigued tube breakage. I have now had 2 seat frames on the sa

The high mount brake light does not always illuminate when the brake pedal is engaged. On a 1 hour commute, the brake light can start working, stop working, and then start working again. The vehicle appears to have the same problem described in NHTSA campaign 14v-252 but as not included in gm recall 13036 even though the recall included other 2009 Chevy malibus. I tried calling the number for gm listed in the NHTSA campaign but was told that my vehicle was not part of the recall and there was nothing they could do until I took it to a dealership to have a diagnostic performed.

My brake light illuminate while driving when not touched.. if I tap the brake they will turn off. they do not always come on when I press the brake .I have taken the vehicle to the shop and they did work on the brake system and it still does the same thing .I then found out there was a recall for 2009 Chevy malibus but for some reason my car does not fall under the category and I am unsure as to why considering I have the exact same issue as the recall States. This has continued for the past year (everytime I drive the car no matter how far or fast or how long ) and is getting worse. My drive to work daily is an hour and 15 minutes one way and it happens at least 30-40 times in one trip.
