Driving in a snow storm when all dash lights came on - and gauges dropped. Repeatedly went off and on. Car eventually stalled. This happened repeatedly in spite of having many things replaced (battery alternator and ignition) when the weather warmed the problem seemed to be resolved but during the first snow this winter, it happened again. Now this occurs frequently. Seldom occurs before 20 minutes of driving. Randomly occurs making detection nearly impossible. No definitive answers from computer testing. Judging from other complaints, this appears to be a common problem. *tr

Sporadic instrument cluster powers on and off illuminating all lights. When condition occurs it is vastly distracting unable to determine vehicle speed accurately. When the issue is present the engine will typically shut off. This seems like an incredibly bad condition to allow in a vehicle and contacting Chrysler LED to no solution for resolving. Internet search suggests this is not a one off situation and exists across several model years. Chrysler does have a recall notice "01v288000" for model year 2001 which appears to be very similar in nature. Due to the highly distracting nature of this condition and frequency of similar owner reports it seems particularly egregious that a recall notice does not exist.
While driving down the road all the dash lights came on and the car started beeping, the gas gauge and MPH and RPM dials go to zero. Can't pull a code and there seems to be no apparent problem that can be located by the dealer or a mechanic. This is very dangerous! *tr
Driving at various speeds, all warning lights flash on and off, then all guages go up and down dramatically, the loss of power, car comes to stop but engine doesn't die. Turn off engine, then on then same thing 2-3 more x on way home. Dangerous. Due to faulty tipm made by Chrysler? This has happened 20 different days in last month, also battery dead once, engine cooling fan failed twice, rear taillights blew from electrical surges 3x, twice power window wouldn't go. Taken into shop two diff. Occasions but can't repeat problem so they can't fix it. Help! Car was on highway several times and on 30-40 MPH streets other times.
Purchased vehicle a couple of years ago with about 32,000 miles, everything has been great until a couple of weeks ago. At about 41,000 vehicle has started stalling when moving, horn will not quit, starting issues and dash lights flash on and off. This is a very dangerous issue and I have read most of the prior 60 complaints dating back to 2010 and nothing has been done by Chrysler . I have heard on the national news that there is finally a recall with this vehicle but my VIN # is not included for some reason. *tr
Intermittently all dash lights come on and all gauges begin fluctuating and the car will begin to sputter and sometimes dies and then it doesn't do it again for miles
This is the 2nd pt cruiser that I have owned. The first one was great! But...this one!! Ongoing problems since we have owned the car!!!! Seat belt wouldn't unlock couldn't get out of car. I was locked in. Someone had to open door from outside. Lights always flickering. Loss power. Acts up while driving. Finally got so bad that the car would just stall out. Took to dealership and was told they couldn't find anything wrong. They said...and I quote "remember we didn't do anything." why would they say that? The latest... Lights flickering, radio going on and off stopped at a store. When I came couldn't unlock the car with my remote. Had to use key to get in, alarm went off, had to jump in and start car to turn alarm off. Pulled out into traffic and the car quit. Completely
More often than not, all the lights on dash illuminate when the car is first started, sometimes flashing on and then off when driving. If driving, sometimes the car will either accelerate or slow down. Because the speedometer goes back and forth, I have no idea how fast I'm going. If I slow down when approaching a red light or to make a turn, the car has cut off. Looking online, this appears to be a common problem of pt cruiser owners, yet I've never seen a recall. Diagnostics ran a few times and no reading shows up. Only told, it appears to be an electrical issue.

While driving at speed of 40 MPH all lights on the console began blinking repeatedly, the tachometer and speedometer began going up and down, car began to rapidly decelerate and then died giving me just enough time to get off the side of the road before causing an accident. Turned off ignition and restarted the ignition car gave no indications of malfunction, drove home and have not drove since. If you google "pt cruiser console going crazy" you will see multiple other owners are having the same issue. This is not just a simple malfunction this is a danger to not only the owner but to others on the roadway. Chrysler should be checking into the issue, but instead after contacting them and letting them know others are experiencing the same issue, they told me "unfortunately, we are unable to

While traveling down the qew highway in ontario, the instrument panel on my pt 2009 cruiser started blinking on and off, the gauges went wild with up and down full-range swings, then blinking on and off on and off; I thought the seatbelt may be the problem since the fasten seatbelt indicator remained "on." it happened again a second time right away (less than 2 minutes) accompanied by loss of engine power. I heard sputtering, and then the engine died, and I had to guide it to a resting spot on the side of the road without power steering; not fun. I was in near hamilton, ontario, and managed to get off the highway safely. I inspected under the hood and nothing seemed out of the ordinary at all. Engine restarted right away, and I was able to make it back to e. Amherst ny. This is
Purchased vehicle new in march 2009. In august 2012 had to have both front lower control arm bushings replaced - with only 3 years and 9,000 miles. Later learned son had to have same repair on used 2008 p/t he had bought. In october 2015, only 3 years and 9,000 miles more, had to have the same repair done again.
Driving at 55mph and all the gauges (gas, speed, tach) went to zero and fluttered up and down, the vehicle stalled. Was fortunate enough to be able to pull over safely and restart the vehicle without incidence. The vehicle has repeated this on several occasions. I was able to record on my phone the instrument panel while it was acting up. Think I have isolated the problem to the key and ignition. I have found if I wiggle the key when this happens it stops. This could be very dangerous since you lose power to the vehicle while driving, it happens without warning. Several internet searches reveal alot of people with the same complaint. I think Chrysler should so be responsible for repair of this problem, they evidently produced a product with a defect that could potentially cause los

The contact owns a 2009 Chrysler PT Cruiser. The contact stated while driving approximately 20 MPH, the front driver's side seat erroneously rolled backwards, and the driver was unable to reach the brake pedal. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer was contacted regarding the failure. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 87,000.
While driving the car on a highway at approximately 50 MPH the driver side rear window shattered. Most of the glass went inside the car. No rock or other object was found that might have caused the failure.

powertrain 1 complaint shown
After starting and running normally for about 20 minutes, the vehicle will begin to exhibit electrical issues. The gauges will drop to zero and then slowly return, the warning lights will flash, and the warning chime will sound repeatedly. It seems like when this happens the engine goes through a start cycle. Most of the time, this problem is otherwise asymptomatic, but occasionally it results in sudden power loss to the engine. It does not seem to matter if the vehicle is moving or not; it happens if the vehicle is stopped, moving slowly, moving quickly, etc. The engine has lost power more than once at a critical moment (turning left, clearing an intersection) and multiple times in moving traffic.

Front control arm bushings need to be replaced. Car has only 39,000 miles on it. I purchased this vehicle used as a rental return with only 389 miles on it. Seems that the bushings shouldn't be going out with less than 40,000 miles on a vehicle. Vehicle has had all required maintenance and new tires - I baby this car. Also, panel with controls on left side of drivers seat has detached. I have tried to reattach many times with no success. I will need to bring to the dealership to fix. Unfortunately both of these items happened just after my 36/36 warranty was up and is not covered by my lifetime powertrain warranty. Have been quoted nearly $1000 to fix both. *tr
