2009 Honda Odyssey owner complaints

Paint on the roof of vehicle, taken to dealership and said "no recalls for that 2009 color but also said there was a 2008 and a 2010 paint recall so the dealership and I paid half and half about 2 months I found out the corrosion was also on the hood so I took it back I was told this time the whole car had to be repainted an the money I spent previously did not count because I could not afford to repaint the vehicle I left it alone."

As I was unloading groceries from the rear of my van, the lift gate suddenly and unexpectedly dropped on me. I was not injured but if I had been a small child or a weak elderly person it could have had tragic results. The same problem occurred when I tried to open the gate a second time while standing safely away from the vehicle. The problem seems to be with the stay assembly tailgate opener which keeps the gate in the open position. There was no problem earlier in the day when I loaded groceries into the van however.. *tr

On two recent occasions, the tailgate has lowered itself without the driver pressing the tailgate button on the dashboard or on the tailgate itself. It lowers without giving the normal audible signal. And in both cases, there was a minor injury occurring as a result of the problem. Once to a child, and the latest to an adult. In the latest incident, the drivers head (ear) was impacted by the downward force of the tailgate, pressing the head against the left rear corner of the vehicle while the driver was leaning into the rear compartment. Very painful to the driver's left ear, but not immediately requiring medical attention. The service department of our local Honda dealership - where the vehicle is normally maintained - states this VIN is not under recall for faulty tailgate struts

Clear coat paint is peeling (hood)-looks terrible

The tailgate struts that support the tailgate (back) door of the minivan failed (collapsed) when the automatic door was opening. There is a recall on this very problem, make, model and year: Honda odyssey 2009, however, my VIN was not included in the recall. Honda inc confirms that they are receiving reports like this one from other people whose cars were not made part of the recall. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 Honda odyssey. The contact stated that while retrieving her infant from the rear driver's side of the vehicle, the sliding door detached from the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the top roller of the door needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 112,000.

Honda odyssey oil consumption-I have a 2009 odyssey that consumes oil. Roughly, every 1,000 miles, I am adding 1 to 2 quarts of oil every 3 to 4 weeks. No spots on the ground. Engine is consuming oil. Have read that this is a known problem with Honda.

Check engine light or check oil light warning lights go on. When dealer immediately checks oil upon arriving at dealership, dipstick shows no oil. This has occurred 3 times since 10/09. *ln

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 Honda odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 55 MPH, the serpentine belt fractured and the engine stalled without warning. The failure occurred on two occasions. The vehicle was towed to the dealer on two occasions. The technician diagnosed on the second occasion that the serpentine belt needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 96,852.

Car started shuddering at 35-40 MPH. Took to shop and was told it was wheel bearings. Had them replaced and the issue stopped for a couple weeks and started back up between 40-45 MPH on city road or highway. This only happens when accelerating. If we let off the gas it stops. Took it to another mechanic and it would not replicate, but earlier in the day it occurred numerous times. It has been happening for at least a month. The vehicle has 153k miles.

2009 Honda odyssey. Issues on the automatic transmission. On 4th gear just shudders either downshifting or up shifting while driving. And besides all this also makes a knocking sound either backing up or moving forward. Besides makes a humming sound from transmission when driving.

The vehicle, a 2009 Honda odyssey, has a soft spongy brake pedal that occassionally goes all the way to the floor, resulting in the vehicle rolling past stop signs and red lights while the pedal is fully depressed. The most recent episode occurred in a private development, where the vehicle was traveling at less than 25mph. Upon approaching a stop sign, the brake pedal went all the way to the floor and there was uncommanded engine acceleration, resulting in the vehicle traveling well past a stop sign. Operator took the vehicle to the local Honda dealership and discussed possible brake problems, including reports of faulty vsa modular pumps, and possible accelerator linkage problems. While stopped at a 4 way traffic intersection w/light and with foot on the brake, the engine raced on it's own causing the car to surge ahead unexpectantly. I had to take it out of gear to avoid an accident.

The air conditioning (a/c) control relay on my 2009 Honda odyssey failed less than 3 years after purchase, causing intermittent electrical problems that would prevent the car from starting. When the car's ignition switch is placed in the "accessory I" position, only the audio system and accessory power sockets should be engaged and able to operate. My a/c control relay failed in the closed position, causing the a/c compressor in my car to run continuously, even when the ignition switch was in the accessory I position. The end result was whenever I left the ignition switch in the accessory position for more then a couple minutes, the running a/c compressor would very quickly drain the battery, leaving the car unable to start. This is a second filing as a third incident has occurred. The new incident occurred on 12/5/2011 (5:45 p.m.) in my driveway immediately after starting the engine which had been of for 40 minutes, but prior to that driven for 40 minutes. Once again the engine "suddenly and unexpectedly" raced. My foot was not on the accelerator. Text from the prior filing (odi# 10438034) is follows: on two occasions (11/28/2011 and 11/30/2011), after driving for several minutes (warmed up engine) and while approaching a stop light at about 3 MPH (almost stopped) and when the engine had already come to idle, the engine suddenly surged (raced, with the tachometer jumping over halfway). The side curtain airbags on our 2009 Honda odyssey deployed without known cause while rolling into our garage. This happened around 9:00am on friday, november 16th, 2018. The airbag deployment was traumatic, as we have come to rely on the safety and reliability of the Honda odyssey. The airbag struck my wife on the left side of her head, but thankfully did not strike our daughter in the car seat. Medical attention was needed but looks to be limited to bruising and soreness. We own a 2009 Honda odyssey that recently experienced failed gas struts in the hatch. As a result, my wife was struck in the head injuring her. Honda agreed to repair even though it is out of the 36k miles warranty. There is a recall for the 2009 odyssey for the exact same failure mode, but only for the motorized hatch. (ours is not motorized). I would like you to look into the possibility of having Honda increase the scope of the recall to include non-motorized hatches. The dealer took possession of the gas struts from the hatch as they indicated Honda of america demanded the parts for their own research. I was not able to hold onto them. Besides the obvious injury my wife incurred, my young toddler twins were also at risk if they happened to be near the hatch and it collapsed. *tr
