Defective timing chain tensioner went and destroyed the entire engine that has less than 50,000 miles on it. Apparently this is a known issue with vw that I found out about after the fact. Luckily it happened in my driveway.

2009 89,000 miles. ABS control module failure for the past couple of weeks my car would intermittently throw up the ABS and traction lights but this would go away shortly afterwards. I get in my car about 30 minutes and start driving for maybe 1/16th of a mile and everything just freaks out. Speedometer is dropping to zero (while in motion doing about 15 MPH) and fluctuates all over between 0 and 20 MPH. Brake light is on. Traction light is on. ABS light is on. Steering light is on. Epc light is on. Check engine light is on. And the mfd is saying "engine fault workshop". As time has gone on it now tends to happen atleast 15+ times a day. It now happens as soon as I turn the key on. I'm to scared to even drive it. I don't want to drive my 10 year old son in it. Please do a recall, not somet
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 Volkswagen gti. While the vehicle was idling, the rpms revved to a higher level and an oil leak was noticed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and dealer where it was diagnosed that the rear main seal was leaking, which caused the vehicle to surge. The check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 93,000.
I took my car to gunther Volkswagen in ft lauderdale, fl. My automatic dsg transmission was not shifting into gear on many occasions as I was driving, parking stopped at a light. On several occasions this problem had resulted in some near accidents with other cars, and on two occasions I had hit a pole and a wall. The near accidents with cars had occurred in parking situations as well as on the street at traffic lights when my car would not move and cars behind me almost hit me. Another occasion my car would not move when I was at an intersection waiting for traffic to clear to turn left, and the light changed. When this problem was occurring the shift indicator letters in the electronic display would flash with boxes around them. It was discovered by the dealer that the transmission prob
Experiencing several safety issues with vw dsg transmission in my 2009 gti. First, shifting into park. When shifting from either reverse or drive into park on a hill, vehicle rolls 3 feet and then hits a hard "stop". Second, very hard downshifting/engine braking in automatic mode when slowing down. This happens at 20 MPH and then again at 10 MPH. If you are applying the brakes when this engine braking happens it is impossible to stop at a desired point. You can be smoothly applying the brake and then when you slow to 20 MPH the engine braking drastically slows the vehicle even more. It's like shifting into a lower gear at too high a speed while simultaneously applying the brakes. Very dangerous! Third, lurch/surge when starting on a hill. When backing out of a spot on a h

During any emergency braking situation, my car will lock all four tires and the traction control, ABS, and emergency brake (flashing) lights will turn on. The lights remain on until the car is turned off and on. This is very dangerous fault that appears to be very common on the 2009 gti. This issue is very easy to reproduce by braking hard from any speed greater than 35 MPH. I have been told it is the ABS control module, which is in line with all of the other complaints about the ABS system. Vwoa should recall the ABS control module on the 2009 gti. *js
While driving lights flashing, speedometer stops working ,fuel gauge stops working. Steering wheel moves funny. There is a recall on the program that they installed but now they just say that the unit needs to be replaced. They are asking 2400.00 for the repair but there are many complaints on the internet from many owners.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 Volkswagen gti. While driving various speeds, the antilock brake system (ABS) and electronic stability control (ESC) warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the ABS module malfunctioned and needed replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure continued intermittently until the warning indicators remained illuminated at all times. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 16v913000 (service brakes, hydraulic, ESC). The vehicle was then taken to gunther Volkswagen of fort lauderdale (1660 s state rd 7, fort lauderdale, fl 33317, (954) 797-1660) where it was confirmed that the ABS module needed replacement. The vehicle was not serviced per the recall because insufficient
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 Volkswagen gti. The contact stated while traveling 65 MPH, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The contact was able to merge to the side of the road to restart the vehicle where it began to function normally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was confirmed that the fuel pump had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the issue. The failure mileage was 89,000 and the current mileage was 190,000.
2009 Volkswagen gti ABS control module failure. This appears to be a common problem. Driving down the highway and complete system failure occurred. Numerous dash board annunciator lights and loss of speedometer.

ABS light comes on while driving, along with e brake light, traction control light. Dealer says it's the ABS module. Car has 33,400 miles. ABS light will go off after restarting but will keep going into the fault code out of the blue while driving. Car will skid if excessive braking is needed. Dangerous for owner and other people. ABS module should be recalled but again with vw current situation with diesels it's no wonder they won't backup a defective ABS module.
ABS module and pump is faulty, which seems to be the case with many other Volkswagen gti specific to the 2009 year. This causes the ABS and traction control to not work, along with loss of power steering, no or faulty reading on speedometer and gas gauge at any speed in both city and highway driving. Cornering is very difficult as the power steering is turned off. Incredibly dangerous and should be addressed and fixed by vw of america. *tr
The ABS pump module fails on 2009 cars regularly. The ABS, stability control and traction control no longer functions and Volkswagen refuses to do anything about it. Took my car to the dealer when it was under warranty for them to look at and all they could say was is that they could not duplicate the problem. Now it is out of warranty and the issue is constant to the point where I do not drive the car due to the speedometer and steering being affected by this issue. The car was on the highway and when the brakes were hard pressed the car skidded.
Faulty ABS control module. ABS and traction control lights go solid, brake light blinks, whenever ABS kicks in (happens anytime it snows). Then the ABS will not work again until the car is shut off and turned on again. Vw you need to fix this, or people will die in accidents because of no ABS!! My car only has 40,500 miles.

I was driving on the highway when I reached a speed of 55 MPH when my check engine light came on. I took it to a mechanic where the guy told me that the intake manifold had gone bad. I've read multiple threads online and this seems to be a common factor in 2009 gti's it also says they may have extended the warranty for 10yr/120k miles. *tr
While traveling at 55 MPH in sixth gear on the new york state thruway, I suddenly lost power and the engine abruptly turned off. I consequently quickly decelerated and was almost rearended before being able to turn onto the shoulder. I smelled a burning odor and got out of my car. Eventually, the vw dealership advised me that the #2 coil had failed and caught fire. Consequently, the wiring harness for the ignition coil and plastic cover surrounding the coil had been destroyed by the fire. This is the second incident involving an ignition coil on this vehicle. Approximately 12 months ago, the #4 ignition coil failed leading to rapid deceleration as I was driving. This appears to be a chronic problem with the ignition coils that may result in otherwise avoidable accidents.

While taking the kids to school, my traction control light and steering assist light came on followed by the check engine light and a loss of drive.after taking the vehicle to an official vw dealership they spent 2 days diagnosing the 6 pages of faults that came up and informed me that the ABS module has failed and will require replacement.
My vehicle has experienced exactly what NHTSA campaign # 16v913000 and it is the model and year as listed in the campaign. With ignition on and while driving all of a sudden 4-5-possibly 6 lights come on my dashboard a chime starts dinging and the ABS,ESC,airbag, epc, barke pedal lights illuminate on dash along with either the speedo or tachometer start jumping. Vehicle can be stationary or driving but vehicle must be running.

ABS brakes and stability control failure, every time the ABS or stability control is activated the systems immediately fail and dash lights all turn on with three loud chimes. Other times the failure happens during normal driving. Power cycling the vehicle resets everything but the failure will soon occur again. This is a well known problem with 2009 models and in my opinion is dangerous -- ABS & stability control system are critical to safety during emergency braking. Some time ago I had to use the brakes to avoid an accident, my wheels all locked up and my vehicle began to skid sideways -- not what one would expect on a vehicle that comes with ABS brakes. I just now learned I can file a complaint. This issue has been ongoing for over approximately 18 months. I regularly turn the ignition
