We have had several occasions where the van completely shuts off even while running. Reported it to our local vw dealer and have been told that it might be an ignition problem which is part of a recall. Was informed that at this time they can't repair it because they don't make that part. Had it completely shut down on us while it was getting serviced at the dealer for new brakes. Was told that all it needed was new battery. Paid for it and got it to start only to shut down again two days later. Took it back again and was told that it is not the recall its something else thats causing for the car to shut off. Now the dealer said that they will pay for the part but we pay for labor and we have 7 days to agree. They need to fix this ongoing problem. We are now carrying around $175 jumper

My 2009 Volkswagen routan dies while driving. I've on the vehicle for two years and this has been happening the whole time. That usually happens at lower speeds (under 35mph). It happens when I'm going straight and when I'm turning corners, going over or no bumps at all. When my car dies I lose steering, all power/electrical. I have taken it to Volkswagen three times for this issue. The first time it was serviced for a recall fix. The problem continued so I took it back and was informed of a second recall for the same issue. So I had it serviced for the second recall fix. The problem continued so I take it back a third time. Volkswagen service department kept my car for over two weeks and then told me they couldn't find anything wrong with it. The problem has continued a

My vehicle shows no pending recalls, but ignition switch still malfunctioning whenever it is bumped or a lanyard is on the key. Brakes malfunction, car seat moves, windshield wipers move, car seems to think it is resetting as original recall states is a problem.

While driving on street or highway or stopped. Usually around 20-40mph car stalls. Brakes lock up/steering wheel locks up/no control of car at all. All lights indicate car is on, one bell goes off prior and anti-skid light comes on. By then panic cannot control car! Put car in park after stopped and it starts right up.

Van has stalled while driving on multiple occasions. Power steering is lost. Vehicle will then start right back up. This is extremely dangerous for a minivan used to transport multiple children. No codes or faults are recorded.

Catastrophic failure of transmission at 76k. Major transmission work done approximately 26k. Transmission replaced 6 months later and still has issues (sluggish, non-smooth shift between gears at higher cruising speeds. Vw engineer gerardo zeledon calls this the "routan shake" and claims this is normal. Approximately 95,000 miles steering began seizing up while in motion. This is, according to recall notice and service manager at flow vw winston salem nc, a behavior related to a recall on the ignition switch (ntsha 14v-396). No parts are available and the car is unsafe to drive. However, vw cannot fix the problem and will not allow us to use a loaner. *tr

Was driving on a residential street when the engine shut off without warning. Completely lost all power (steering, brakes, etc). Was able to pull over to side of road thankfully only going 25 MPH and no traffic. Put vehicle in park, started up immediately and ran fine after that. Received recall letter in mail the following week stating the ignition switch can turn off without notice incident happened 2 additional times, similar circumstances. Spoke with dealer and vw corporate on 3 separate occasions. Volkswagen states they do not have a solution for the recall repair at this time, nor will they do anything about the possible safety issue of the vehicle shutting off and causing an accident. *tr

Since buying our 2009 routan in the fall of 2016 we have sunk thousands into it trying to get it fixed because of the issues we have had shortly after buying it (ours did not come with a warranty from the vw dealer). At least twice a week, and sometimes more, it stalls while we are driving...usually at low speeds like when we are slowing down to make a turn or slowing down for a stoplight. Usually, all of the dashboard lights and controls will blink and ding repeatedly before stalling. It also stalls when sitting still. It will blink all of the lights, the controls will go crazy and the windshield wipers will go back and forth one time as it stalls. On dec 11 it stalled on a major road in charlotte, nc and I lost all power so I could not even put on my flashers. I have an autistic chi

After my van has been sitting for a while and it been warmed up for 15 minutes. With in the first 2 to 5 miles of driving the traction control light will come on and the van will shut off and the steering wheel and break will fail. Then I have to turn the key to off and restart the van and it sometime repeat itself if I'm stuck in traffic.

Brake rotors warp very quickly on this vehicle (which is also made by Chrysler). During heavy braking at 40mph the steering wheel vibrates very heavily due to warped brake rotors (happens under 12000miles). Don't see how antilock sensors can withstand this vibration and get an accurate reading to keep the vehicle from locking the wheels. I have already had incidents where applying the brakes at 40mph hour that I have skidded but was smart enough to let off once I realized the ABS was not functioning correctly and re-applied the brakes.vw and dealer acknowledge the problem and replace the rotors with the same defective rotors on the vehicle. This is an engineering problem and not a wear and tear issue as they claim. It will only be a matter of time before someone gets killed in a bad accide

Problems with braking at 22,837 miles in 2010. Vehicle would shake when going down a hill and applying brakes to stop. Front brake pads were replaced and rotors turned . Two years later in 2012 at 43,919 miles back rotors and brake pads were replaced, all 4 tires replaced, and front end alignment. In 2013 at 68,797 miles 2 of the new tires were replaced and another front end alignment. Car stops sometimes and will not come back on immediately. In 2014 at 90,000 miles, battery died and antifreeze in radiator exploded, had to purchase a new battery and a part for the radiator. Had to replace front rotors and brake pads, 2 tires and had another front end alignment. Extremely loud noise when driving, mechanic said it may be wheel bearings. The ABS and check engine light come on and of

Car electrical system goes crazy, speedometer needle goes crazy. Radio turns off and on, then the vehicle turns off completely. It turns on after. Sometimes all this happens before turning off, sometimes it turns off suddenly with no warning. Have spent a lot of money trying to fix issue with no luck. Driving it makes me very nervous but I can't change cars right now. It has happened both on small streets and highway in motion.

We have had a problem with our Volkswagen routan since nearly day one. While parked on any type of surface, (hill, or flat, down hill, or up hill). On occasion the door while opening or closing will re-close or not open. This has been very dangerous when you have a 4 year old get in the door before door has come to complete rest. The child gets in as the door opens, and the door closes back on him as it couldn't open properly. We have had it checked by vw on several occasions but was not resolved. There is something seriously wrong with these doors. *tr
