2011 Honda Pilot owner complaints

Drivers seat height adjustment lowers on it's own while driving. This happens every time it is driven, creating a safety issue since driver sinks to lowest position while vehicle is in motion. Occurred while driving new car off the dealers lot. Dealer was unsure how to fix. *tr

The gas tank bands are rusting out, they are about to break causing the gas tank to fall and probably catch fire. The gas tank protector and gas tank guard are also rusted out to the point of falling off and crumbling rust.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 Honda pilot. While driving various speeds, the fuel cap warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. The dealer could not determine the cause of the failure. The service technician stated that the fuel cap needed to be unscrewed and re-tightened. The vehicle was not repaired and the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 2,000.

Honda pilot headrest is canted too far forward. A person wearing their hair in a bun, ponytail or clip cannot fit safely in the seat with the head rest in place. This is a dangerous defect because the most tempting solution is to raise the headrest to an unsafe height or to remove it completely. *tr

I was hearing clunking in the back and brought it into the shop to get it checked out. I was told the rear subframe broke from being rusted/rotted out. I looked my car up to see if there were any recalls for it and found that there were recalls/buy backs for the same thing for 2003-2008 Honda pilots, 2007-2011 CR-V's and Ridgeline's in cold weather states, but not for my year of pilot even though it is the same issue wrong with the subframe. We tried contacting Honda, but after going back and forth with voice messages they told us there was nothing they can do because our year didn't have the recall. Roof and hood of SUV PAINT PEELILNG badly. I notice many Honda Pilots with the same defect. I get my Pilot serviced at the dealer and NEVER have they offered to repaint/repair or offer suggestions. Obviously this is a Vehicle Defect from the factory. The rest of the body is in great shape.

Vehicle in question is a 2011 Honda pilot which was purchased brand new in september 2011. Problem occurred when I was heading south on wellwood ave. I came to a red light at the intersection of wellwood ave and straight path road in lindenhurst. When I attempted to come to a stop the vehicle began to accelerate. I kept my foot on break but the car kept on accelerating and engine kept on revving as though I was pressing down on gas pedal. This created a loud revving noise and a cloud of car exhaust . If I had removed my foot from the break at this time I would have crashed into back of vehicle in front of me. I kept my foot on the break and put the vehicle into park. When the light changed and the car in front of me moved I put the car back into drive and the car seemed to function normall

When I started the car this morning, I heard a high-pitched grinding noise - something I've never heard before. Driving at 30mph, the car suddenly accelerated as I applied the brakes rounding a corner. I could hear the engine revving up so I quickly shifted it into neutral until it went back to normal. Then shifted it into drive and continued on. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 Honda pilot. While stopped at a drive thru window, the vehicle suddenly accelerated with the brake pedal was depressed and crashed into the rear of another vehicle. The police arrived on the scene and as the contact attempted to move the vehicle a second time, the vehicle accelerated yet again. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnosis. The technicians inspected the vehicle and were unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. Tl* the contact owns a 2011 Honda pilot. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 16v346000 (air bags); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. I took my car to dealer to work on 3 recall notices on driver side airbag (not takata related since it's not a takata airbag), passenger side airbag, and seat belt. I also had a SRS warning light that was on constantly for about 2 years so I had the dealer diagnose the warning light. The code showed 11-21 (something about open or increased resistance on the airbag). The dealer said the airbag needs to be replaced for about $1200 and the problem was caused by tampering with the airbag wiring. This totally did not make sense since I am the original owner and nobody tampered with the airbag. The light started to come on after 5-6 years since I owned the vehicle and the car was never involved in an accident. This looks like a poor quality air bag was used when the vehicle was made and I think

I received a letter from Honda early last summer notifying me of the recall of my airbags saying parts would be ready in the fall and I would get another letter. So far I have heard nothing else from them.

Paint is peeling on driver side door and top of vehicle (moonroof area). Stationary in my garage.

The exterior paint is chipping in multiple places

I make reference to 2011 Honda pilot recall from NHTSA: 10v640000 of 12/16/2010. Since I bought a similar vehicle on 12/11/2010, I would like to find out if my car is included in this recall. I wrote to the manufacturer address in california several weeks ago requesting information about this matter and as of this date, I have not received an answer. *tr the consumer stated he was told it would take three weeks for the vehicle to be repaired more than 60 days has passed, regarding the air bag issue. During highway driving and braking from highway speeds a significant vibration is felt in the steering column. It does not lead to a loss of control, however it renders the vehicle less stable under braking. The vehicle has 75,000 miles on it. We brought it in for service and the lower arm compliance bushings required replacement. Honda had issued an extended warranty for this item - a clear indication that the part is not up to standard - and presumably a significant number of these vehicles will face a similar problem - which if unadressed could lead to further accidents.

My 2011 Honda pilot has had a severe shutter when accelerating from a dead stop to up to 40mph. It has gotten progressively worse since I bought it in in 2014. It's now gotten to the point where just normal road driving when the eco mode kicks in it will also shutter to the point where I have to accelerate to get it to stop. I also find there's excessive oil consumption, even having to replace a malfunctioning spark plug that was covered in oil, which isn't normal either. Upon calling the dealership they said there was no recalls on this problem so I had to repair it out of pocket. Recently my check engine came on so I had it scanned the codes that came up codes p3400, p3497 which I understand Honda has issued a bulletin (not a recall) about these codes & the excessive oil consumption. Tl* the contact owns a 2011 Honda pilot. The contact stated that while driving approximately 87 MPH, the vehicle suddenly stalled after exhibiting a loud popping noise. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where they advised the contact that the failure could have been caused by the electrical system but they could not confirm that it was the actual cause. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. The failure and the current mileages were approximately 9,800.

Purchased 2011 Honda pilot ex-l new in mid-2010. For the past several months, we felt a shudder in the transmission at/around 25 MPH when accelerating lightly from a full stop. Got progressively worse over time; even passengers noticed it. Car is just under 5.5 years old with 72k miles on it. Dealer checked, said the torque converter had failed and would cost $1,900 to replace. Stated the new t/c had a 'fix' that corrected an earlier, known problem?! After replacing the transmission and/or torque converter on my 2000 Acura tl three times and once on two previous Honda preludes, I said I'd had enough with Honda and demanded for it be repaired for free. I've seen a plethora of complaints on-line about 2009-2011 pilots and odyssey transmissions and t/c's so Honda obviously hasn't fixed the

Traveling at approximately 70 MPH with the vsa (vehicle stability assist) off, the automatic transmission suddenly shifted into neutral. I lost power and forward momentum. I was startled and when I looked at the gear selector, the indicator showed the selector in the neutral position. I moved the selector to the drive position and immediately had forward momentum once again. I'm terrified to imagine what could have happened had I been passing another vehicle with oncoming traffic. The service technician said, " that couldn't happen. It is impossible for the transmission to move from drive to neutral without someone moving the transmission selector."
