Brake pedal makes hissing sound when depressed like air leakage; intermittently very difficult to depress brake pedal with a lot of force applied (typically if pumping brake), leading to increased stopping distance/difficult stopping. Occurs when brakes depressed (soft pedal, air hissing); if depressed again in quick succession, very hard to press with significantly reduced stopping power. Occurs whether vehicle standing or in motion. *js

I put my vehicle in the Mazda shop last year 2017 for a recall and I mentioned that there was something I felt in my brakes they told me that it may be dust and by driving it will go away,Mazda knew about this problem they should have taken care of it then.my vehicle was taken to ourisman Mazda dealership about 2 weeks ago and I was told that it was my brake booster & master cylinder labor is $709.47 and the parts are $537.98 and the brake flush is $202.61 total $1450.06 and my warranty expired in october 2018. I then called Mazda and I spoke to a ms.jennifer a customer experience representative and she said she would check into it.I then called back to ourisman Mazda and spoke to mr.emerson and he told me that he spoke to ms jennifer at Mazda and that my out the door price would be $553.1
For the past week, my 2012 Mazda cx-9 has been having issues with not braking. At first, I thought it was just my imagination, but every day this pas week, at least once a day, I go to push on the brake pedal and it won't move. The brake pedal is stiff as if I'm pushing on a block of cement. It's very scary, and I've almost hit several cars, and even almost hit a pedestrian. I am a mom and drive with my small children in the car often. That's why I bought a family vehicle. Today I was at a drive thru window, and the car stalled completely. I turned the ignition, and it started up, but the engine was shaky, not idling right. It felt like it would stall again at any moment. I called Mazda, but my car has 40k miles, and they were very rude and said my warranty expired at 36k miles.
On january 7,2015 I was driving on the long island express way merging off the ramp back onto the high way when I couldn't break. My breaks didn't work. I kept on pressing them down and nothing was working. Trucks were all honking at me because I was merging without stopping. Finally I went off the ramp onto the grass. I called the dealership and was informed that there is a recall regarding this problem. Never got anything in the mail from them stating of such thing.I took the car in and I don't own the car anymore because I was beyond afraid after this situation.
I had to push harder and harder on my Mazda cx9 brake pedal for my car to slowdown and to come to a complete stop . This happened when backing out of my garage and the brake is getting worse everyday on my way to work . On the day when I had to take my car to the mechanics , I had practically put both feet on the brake pedal for the car to stop . It was a terrifying experience that the car would not stop and continued to roll forward and more so at every traffic light . I took my car to two different mechanics within one hour since I didn't believe the first one and wanted a second opinion . They both told me that the brake booster and the master cylinder were defective and needed to replace immediately because I just don't have brake on my car ! They said this should not happen in a car
Drove ~600 miles with a failed brake booster. Found out via internet that Mazda had provided an extended warranty to cover this defect. When the dealership where I took the car tried to find the part it was on backorder with Mazda. The Mazda service manager at preston Mazda, john rosensteel, had one of his people drive to butler, pa from boardman, oh to pick up the part. I took the car to the dealer on the day before thanksgiving and the car was ready to go with a new boost unit by friday. This was all due to the efforts of an excellent service manager at the dealership. Mazda failed me as a customer by not having the brake booster in stock even though it was the subject of multiple failures and an extended warranty. *tr
Brakes do not stop vehicle immediately, it is hard to apply brakes.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 Mazda cx-9. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 20 MPH, the brakes failed to operate. The contact mentioned that the brakes gradually slowed down the vehicle and stop independently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where they informed the contact that there was an unknown recall on the vehicle. The contact contacted riley Mazda (75 myrtle ave, stamford, ct 06902, (203) 978-5780) and was informed that the VIN was not under recall. The contact was informed of an extended warranty coverage however, the mileage had been exceeded. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 129,000.
Brakes were occasionally 'tight', had to be pushed very hard to get the vehicle to stop. When I pushed the brakes it sounded like air was being pushed out. Changed pads and brake fluid, flushed the air out. Only made it worse. Now the brakes are constantly 'tight' and after learning this is a common issue with this vehicle I'm going to replace the brake booster. Ridiculous that so many are having this issue and Mazda isn't recalling this part!
While braking normally for a stop sign, the brakes became hard to press and did not stop the car as normal. Hissing from the pedal area was heard and the car finally stopped halfway through an intersection after nearly standing on the brakes.

The transmission was shifting hard between 4th and 5th gear. My wife brought the vehicle to the dealership to have the air bag recall done. They then charged us $122 to update the transmission program to correct the factory issue. Now it shifts from 6th to 3rd on the interstate.
If water pump fails the engine will shut down without warning or any type of check engine light or alert. Coolant will flood crankcase immediately and ruin the engine . This occurred while driving creating a serious safety issue potentially causing a collision.
Like one other incident, my complaint involves the transfer case which is specific to the AWD models. I was on a major roadway when I noticed a low, strange noise. About this time I was preparing to enter a turn lane when the car suddenly lurched and made an awful noise that literally sounded like the engine fell out. It then felt like I ran over said engine before the car came to an abrupt stop. Thankfully the light at the intersection had been red and traffic was slowing with me because I shudder at the thought if traffic had been moving at the regular rate of speed. Mazda roadside assistance had it towed to the dealership where the two guys immediately asked if it was an AWD model. They said that without even looking at it, based on what I'd said happened, they'd bet it was the transfer
The Mazda cx9 that we purchased has a acceleration problem when we go to stop.. Mazda has never been able to solve the problem completely.. We have had 2 brake boosters replaced under warranty. We feel the car is unsafe to drive and Mazda has not addressed the problem. They tell us nothing is wrong with the car. It know also has transmission problems with squeaking and grinding noises coming from the car. This is a design flaw that has not been addressed.

The Mazda cx 9 cuts off without warning at traffic lights. It also has cut off at low speed turns. It restart some times. Sometime it will not for a few minutes. Been left in the middle lane of us 27 south of sebring florida at a traffic light stalled. The RPM fluxuates at times and the vehicle surges. Dangerous situation when in the center lane and it just cuts off with no warning. No engine check light or warning prior to cutting off.

steering 1 complaint shown
While driving on interstate 90 west in massachusetts, 5 miles from route 84, our AWD cx-9 started making a very loud whining noise. Within 10 seconds, the car started bucking, making a grinding noise and the steering became difficult. I was able to maneuver to the left side of the road; I could not make it to the breakdown lane because of the car's condition. Once the car stopped, we smelled burning fluid and some smoke came out of the vents inside the car. The car was unable to drive on its own, the wheels seemed locked and the grinding noise was extremely loud when in drive or neutral. I had to call 911. The mass state highway patrol arrived and had to push us over to the breakdown lane while the car was in neutral. The the mass state police halted all traffic on the highway for this to

I received a recall letter on 6/2016 and called in to schedule or remedy the problem on 07/18/2016, I told the part would be ordered. Called back on 9/20/2016 part was not ordered because person in charge of doing so was fired. They told me that the part would be ordered again and that I would be contacted. Again, I contacted Mazda on 10/2016 and again they told me that the part was inaccurately ordered and that they would call me once it was reordered and received. I have not received a call from Mazda and am very tired of getting the run around. I need to remedy this issue.
