Passenger airbag randomly turns off when passenger is in the car. Took to a dealer and they couldn't repeat. Was told it was probably just a weight issue. If the airbag doesn't go off with a passenger there it could be fatal. *tr

Passenger air bag light turns from on to off with a passenger sitting there. Manual says this happens when there is moisture in the seat. First of all, the airbag should not turn off for that reason, that is a safety problem. Second, it turns off even when there is no moisture. It scares me. I need to know that the airbag is still working even if that off light is on if my son is sitting there. *tr

When driving with a passenger the air bag for the passenger will not turn on and dashboard lights will come on.

Tl* the contact leases a 2012 Subaru impreza. While driving approximately 35 MPH, the front passenger air bag warning lamp illuminated even though there was an occupant in the front seat. The dealer stated that the jumper cables under the passenger seated resulted in the sensor not operating properly. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.

Front passenger seat airbag sensor gradually stopped working. This seat sensor had allegedly been checked and fixed in 2015 as part of Subaru voluntary recall subsequent to the NHTSA investigation. At that time, the sensor was working properly; the nature of Subaru's fix is unclear. Since the voluntary recall, the front passenger seat has not been modified. There has been no water spill. The issue with the front passenger airbag sensor started shortly after an iphone charger was installed, I.e. Plugged in the front 12v cigarette lighter receptacle. The degradation of the seat airbag sensor's performance was gradual. First, it stopped registering my daughter's weight, then my wife's then mine -- this gradual degradation in performance, from first incidence to complete non-performance took a

Oil keeps running dry before next oil change. It has been requiring about 1 quart every 3,000 miles. This has the ability for the engine to run without oil and seize. This can cause drastic damage and injury along with greater wear. I have been mitigating it with keeping oil in the trunk but no guarantees that you will always have it. The oil also ruined my trunk. *tr

The check engine light, the traction light and oil warning light came up on the dashboard. Initially, the dealer recommended replacing the oil valve. I did but the the problem persist. Now the engine is hunting. The dealer informs me that engine is not pumping enough oil despite the fact that service has been done regularly at interval recommended by the Subaru dealership. Now I am told that I need a new engine.

The contact owns a 2012 Subaru Impreza. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle started smoking from the engine compartment. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed as an oil consumption and cam carriers failure. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer where the diagnostic result was confirmed. The contact repaired the front timing seal gasket himself; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 119,000.

My Subaru imprera's low engine oil light has been on multiple times since april of this year and has been brought to the attention of Subaru dealer to no avail. Though the oil consumption rate is abnormal and the problem appears to be common among certain Subaru models, Subaru of america has been asserting that it is normal for an automobile to consume a quart of oil about every thousand miles. *tr

12/31/2024 Fire ODI #11633290.0

The AC unit suddenly shutoff and there was a burning smell while I was driving. It turns out that the connector on the back of the climate control unit had either drawn too much current, or the resistance was too high, and the connector had started burning. Fortunately, the melted plastic interrupted the electrical connection, and the fire had went out on its own. It looks like this is not an isolated incident, and several others have dealt with similar when looking online.

2012 impreza... Bought new, nothing but headaches. All problems listed below occurred before I had even owned the car 2 years. 1. At 8-10k miles - while driving car would randomly turn off passenger airbags and illuminate no passenger seatbelt on the dash. Took car to dealer 3 times. Dealer refused to fix as the "error was not stored in the computer." suggested cell phone was the problem even though cell phones were not near the seat during each of the multiple incidents. I had to complain to corporate who told the dealer to replace the sensor in the seat. No problems since. 2. At 15k miles - multiple times car would turn on check engine light and traction control light simultaneously. First incident dealer said "dirty camshaft sensor." second incident I had to refuse to take the car

Brake Lamp Switch failed in 2018 - we diagnosed the issue, based partly on information from other Subaru owners who had the same problem, and replaced the switch. Since that time, the brake lights have worked fine. We reported this in a letter to Subaru after their recall for the brake lamp switch replacement in 2019. They refused to pay for the part as we no longer have the receipt (not having a crystal ball, we couldn't see any reason to keep it for more than a year in 2018). We did not contest this - in fact, I had merely asked, in my letter, that they note that the part had already failed and been repaired in their records - however, they continue to flag the car as an open safety recall and insist that we bring the car in to replace a switch that no longer needs replacing. Car was driven to a grocery store and was parked for approx. 15 minutes. Upon starting the car and placing it in reverse, the steering wheel vibrated and the power steering ceased to function accompanied by an epas warning light displayed on the dash. The light extinguished after two restarts, but re-lit upon slight movement of the steering wheel with momentary vibration and loss of power assist. We drove the car .7 mile to the Subaru dealer with no power steering assist. A service adviser started the car minutes later and the steering functioned normally with no malfunction light displayed. The service adviser said it was not possible to look for a stored code to determine what the problem was. The ambient temperature was about 40 deg f. The car was very difficult to steer without power a

I backed up in my driveway and shifted into drive and I noticed a lag time of about 2 seconds shifting from reverse to drive. I contacted the Subaru dealership and the staff assured me that was normal for the CVT transmission. When I took the Subaru impreza for the 2500 mile check up and spoke to the service manager at the dealership, he also felt that this was a safety issue especially when backing up into traffic and waiting for the transmission and it's "slow engagement" into drive. He has expressed his views to Subaru and like me has been assured it's ok. I still feel it's a safety issue. *tr

Driving home on 12/11/16, the check engine, vehicle dynamics control, and cruise control indicators came on simultaneously. Check engine and vdc indicators were steady, but cruise control was blinking. The next morning when I started the car, the problem was still there so I immediately went to Subaru to have it checked out. They discovered code p1449: "EVAP system clugged check & found spider webs is EVAP drain & valve assy. Tech recommend replace EVAP drain & valve assy." they replaced EVAP drain & valve assembly and performed EVAP system clean reinstall which fixed the issue. Took delivery of vehicle that had recall wvy-35 completed pre-delivery. After approximately 45 miles of driving (65 total odometer miles), braking force dropped to near zero. Inspection revealed significant loss of brake fluid. Problem first manifested with slowly sinking brake pedal at stops, with braking still effective, but quickly developed to the point that the brake pedal would go fully to the floor with severely reduced brake force. *tr
