Under certain circumstances, some customers may have a concern regarding a howling-type sound from the rear of the vehicle later diagnosed as a faulty hub / bearing assembly. Unevenness of the backing plate surfaces may affect the concentricity (roundness) of the hub / bearing after torqued during assembly and over time, cause the howling -type sound to develop. Production changes for the backing plates have been implemented to optimize their mounting surface quality.

This bulletin announces a revised procedure and parts change information to follow when replacement of a rear ABS wheel speed sensor is required on a limited number of 2012MY Impreza vehicles which fall within the specific VIN ranges listed below. Design changes were made to the original sensor and the upper rear arm for these vehicles. The sensor harness length has been extended and a retaining bracket added to the rear upper arm to secure the harness and keep it from contacting other related parts.
