2013 Chevrolet Equinox owner complaints

My family and I were driving on the highway and my engine stopped without any warning lights or notifications. We were able to safely coast from the left lane to the shoulder. We had the car towed to a nearby dealership. When they inspected my car they said there was no oil in in the engine and that the crank was locked up. I was told I would need to replace the engine. My car has about 134,000 miles on it and was brand new when I bought it.

I bought my 2013 Chevy equinox in july of 2019, about a month after buying it my husband checked the oil and the oil wasnt even on the dipstick. After that we kept an eye on it and every week we have to put at least a quart of oil in the vehicle. We have brought it to our shop and have determined that there is excessive oil consumption at the 100,000 mile mark.

While driving, the car turned off and was unable to start back up. The engine blew after the timing belt jumped time. After talking to multiple people in our area, engine failure, excessive oil consumption, and problems with the timing belt are a huge problem with this year model that Chevrolet should do something to remedy. The repair is more expensive than the car is worth so I will now be car shopping.

I hardly drive my truck since teleworking but it has oil consumption. I get my oil changed every time it is due and within 1500 miles there will be nothing on the stick now I check it everyday. I was not informed about this and missed the lawsuit. My truck is in very good condition. GM and the Cheverolet dealer should be responsible. I noticed this about a year ago but was just informed of the issue when I went to take my truck to get the oil checked and nothing was on the dipstick within 1500 miles after getting my oil changed.

I was driving at 55mph and the red lights came on saying to check engine oil low-I pulled over immediately and my engine was already blown. I get my oil changes every 3000-3500 miles. The mechanic said that the rear seal gasket blew and the engine was gone immediately. I now have a car that I still owe on and I need a new engine at 120,000 miles. Very upset that the price you pay for these cars that all you can get is 120,000 miles.

My 2013 equinox Chevy, I was driving down on the highway without engine light warning. Acting funny till I got home... Then the engine light came on, next morning we were going to take it to gm for take a look at but won't stay running. Still didn't give any alert.

I purchased the vehicle November 7, 2024 with 137,251 miles. The car shakes and jerks violently while in idle, mostly at stop signs and red lights. The car will lag or stall while accelerating on the highway. It gets so extreme that the vehicle has almost failed and cut off while in motion. That raised red flags and safety concerns for me as the driver, my children as passengers, pedestrians, and other drivers as well. I looked up common issues and discovered that this particular problem is common in this car and i immediately called GM. 600 mile trip for christmas. Car would idle rough at stops and stalled numerous times as starting out. The root cause is excessive oil consumption on this direct fuel injection gm 2.4 liter engine. Gm has known about this problem and has put out a tsb extending the warranty for 2011-2012 models with this problem, but are making it extremely difficult for consumers to take advantage of this warranty work. The internet car forums are full of consumers complaining about this defect and gm's lack of concern in addressing the issue. I hope it doesn't take someone being killed before the problem is resolved. This car burns through oil faster than anything despite regular oil changes and fills in between. Never sends a sensor for low oil and now it is believed to have blown a head gasket likely due to this oil issue. There was an extended fix for pistons issued but the date to qualify was before I purchased this car so I was not eligible-I just saw this recently. This is a danger causing the engine to fail while driving without any warning of any issue leading up to it. I have read hundreds if not thousands of complaints of this exact issue online and on Facebook. The company still has yet to this date to recall this vehicle. I bought this vehicle from carmax and there's a recall on the wipers that hasn't been repaired. It says remedy not available yet. I find that hard to believe. It's 3 years old now.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The car does not have a back up camera to make up for the bad blind spots on the vehicle. The double vision mirrors on side mirrors do not help when backing up. Even if you look all the way out the rear window, your vision is blocked by the rear window wiper. I have had near accidents several times. I complained to the sales person and dealership I bought it from with no help. They said that Chevy does not install cameras to vehicles after it is leased so I would have to do it at my own expense. When I initially complained, the sales person said I had to get used to driving it. After a year, I still had the same problem. Was driving thru Atlanta at night in a rainstorm and without any warning my passenger side wiper totally quit. The driver side wiper was all I had. I had to cautiously keep driving in the very center of Atlanta. I do have the complete motor parts as I replaced it myself after buying the part from a local GM dealer. I have had no dealer inspection yet because I just heard about the recall on the 2014 and 2015 wiper recall. this happened in April of 2021.

Recall for oil burning consumption I took car to dealership to fix but I’m continuing to have the same problems and still no oil light comes on and it continues to use oil some where and it never leaks onto the ground and new problems now it’s jerking when at a stop if idle for to long a warning light says reduced engine power. I purchased my 2013 Chevy equinox new. Within months the radio turned off while I was driving, the display screen went black, and then came back on to the Chevy link display. This would happen whether or not the radio was on. The dealership where I purchased the vehicle replaced the center stack; not once, but twice. As a note, I was told that other drivers with this issue reported the car turning itself off when the screen went black. I have also paid $150 for 'software updates' when the car seemed to 'lose its settings' after it was out of warranty. While sitting stopped at a traffic light yesterday, my brand new equinox just turned off. A co-worker with the same car (different model year) mentioned this happened to her two weeks prior to it happening to me. When I went online to research the issue, I was alarmed after locating multiple forums where equinox owners were having the same problem and looking for answers. I made an appointment 2013 equinox into the dealer because I was smelling strong exhaust smell in the cab. As soon as I talked to the mechanic he told me it was most likely a cracked exhaust manifold and that it is happening frequently in the equinox models. Then 2 days before my appointment to get my car looked at my check engine like turned on so I parked it and didn't drive it until it was time to take it to the dealership. When I got there I let them know that the light had just came on. After inspecting my car they found that the exhaust camshaft actuator solenoid was out of spec. The removed it and replaced it and found a lot of metal shavings on the actuator. R/r intake solenoid and and cleaned more metal shavings off of that. Purchased vehicle approximately june 29, 2019 from Chevy dealer in roseville ca. About 3 months after I purchased vehicle I noticed the liftgate coming down by itself. I notified the dealer and set up an appointment to bring vehicle in. In the meantime the check engine light started coming on and staying on, so when I made the appointment I also mentioned this to the service agent. When towing with rv the front wheels start a severe wobble which shakes the rear of the rv. This has occurred several times; several at hwy speed after going over a bump in the hwy. The only way to stop the wobble is to stop the vehicle; this is very dangerous when in traffic at hwy speed. I had initially thought it was the new blue ox tow bar but I checked that with the manufacturer; they indicated the problem was a gm problem with the electric assist steering. The hood open sensor keeps going off and I . Noticed when its beeping it interrupts the turn signal. I don't know if it affects the outside turn .or not. This alarm goes off even when car is shut off and drains the battery
