2013 Honda Crosstour owner complaints

Complaint Summary: Steering system failure remains unresolved after Honda warranty repair. Complete loss of electric power steering. Complaint Details: I experienced a sudden and complete loss of electric power steering on my 2013 Honda Crosstour V6. The EPS warning light illuminated, steering effort increased drastically, and vehicle control at low speeds became difficult and unsafe. The vehicle was brought to a Honda dealership, which replaced the EPS control unit under Honda’s warranty extension 19-036. However, after the repair, the power steering is still completely inoperative. The same original diagnostic trouble code (DTC 32-09) returned immediately, showing that the underlying defect was never resolved. When I started the car, the indicator for a power steering failure was illuminated on the dashboard. The power steering did not function, and there was no power steering assist. The car has been taken to the dealer for diagnosis and repair. *js

I was driving and stopped at the red light when the green light came on I was unable to make a left turn as the steering wheel locked on me and I had to be pushed to the side by a few construction guys. I I could drive it but make no turns. Had the car towed to planet Honda in union nj, who stated it would cost me $4,000 dollars to fix the car is not 36 months old and they are saying it is not under warranty. Can you assist?

The car was stationary in a parking space. I started the car and attempted to reverse, however the steering wheel was completely locked and the car was immobile. It would not turn at all, the steering wheel indicator turned on, and I was stuck in the parking space. After 30mins the steering wheel became mobile, however I had it towed to a Honda dealer. The dealer reports that the computer needs to be replaced, which yields a cost of $799. This repair is considered non-power train. Once the computer is replaced another diagnostic test will be run to see if the pins need to be replaced. Replacement of the pins will cost approximately $1,800.

Electronic power steering unit going in and out while driving.

Driving on i85n at highway speeds the eps (elec. Power steering) light came on and steering became very difficult without any previous warning. I was able to slow down and veer off the highway without any incident thankfully due to minimal turning required. A week later, the issue reoccurred after a few days of being parked. At least this time I was not on a highway... Why did the NHTSA investigation only result in the eps issue being covered for the accord (2 different tsbs) of the same year but not for the crosstour if the crosstour is based on the accord?

Soon after purchasing this vehicle, the carpeting started coming out from the trim in the backseat floorboard. We are retired couple so typically no one sit in the back seat causing this issue to occur. We took the vehicle to the dealership where we purchased the vehicle and they tried stapling the carpet back under the trim piece; however, it soon came out. In the meantime, my husband got very ill and was in and out of hospitals for over a year so this issue took a back seat to his health issues. Now he is well, and addressing this continuing issue which he did with american Honda; however, they pretty much told us that there wasn't anything they could do about it. All warning lights came on-LDW/ABS/VSA/FCW at first around 7/25/23 . Called Honda service-told to bring it in for diagnostic check. Then on 7/27/23 power steering went out-had car towed in to dealer-they fixed/replaced EPS Control unit under extended warranty extension 19-036. They diagnosed the electrical systems -said it needed VSA Modulator ($2222.36 prepaid)-and said safe to drive. That was at 54,947 miles on the car-after a couple of weeks, the ‘BRAKE LIGHT’ warning light came on -at first intermittently-then every time-then intermittently again. Called dealership-said -yes-that’s normal, that it happened to other Honda Crosstours an Honda Accords! They said ‘ should be safe to drive’ —???? Would you feel safe to driving this vehicle? ABS modulator failure warning lights: "Brakes", "ABS", "LDW", "FCW", "System Failure", "Traction Control"

Rear brake calipers required replacement at 31000 miles, which I believe to be a manufacturing problem, and which required replacement of rear brake pads as a result.

My rear brakes pads are completely worn out and my car does not even have 40k miles on it. Very disappointed. How can my rear pads be out before my front pads? According to the Honda dealership the rear brakes go out first on these types of cars. I am no mechanic but this does not make sense to me when the tech is blaming my stop and go traffic. I've owned Chevy's and Ford's and I've never had an issue with my brakes going out so soon whether front or rear. I'm never buying a Honda again. *tr

The contact mentioned that the vehicle had to be restarted every time for the noise to stop. The failure recurred numerous times. In addition, the vehicle failed to operate. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the starter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

After taking my vehicle to holman Honda sunrise for airbag safety recall a vibration started happening. Took back in to the dealership was told air recall fixing wouldn't caused it then they did an inspection provided three recommendations for repair front passenger axle, brakes and rotator, and all new four wheels. Completed all recommendations given by the dealership vibrations still not fixed. Had a second inspection on the vehicle by private mechanic who seen that the axle part is bad. Went back to holman Honda sunrise made them aware and asked them to inspect their axle part to see if it was failing; they refused to check the axle part and just wanted to issue a refund to not deal with the safety of my son and me. 2013 Honda crosstour attemping to start the vehicle, a grinding noise was heard from the starter. Error on dash indicated starter system failure. Attemping again, vehicle started normallye. The failure recurred numerous times.the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the starter needed to be replaced. Cost 599.54 + 50.00 diagnoistic charge. The vehicle was repaired with manufacturer parts 12/11/2018 107277 mileage. 9 months last september 2019, starter begain same failure. 118100 mileage. Dealer to replace starter again.

At low speed the vehicle hesitates before accelerating. First noticed problem in mall parking lots. When I attempted to slowly maneuver the vehicle, the vehicle failed to respond to the gas pedal. If you continue to apply the gas, the vehicle would lunge forward, almost spinning the front wheels. Yesterday I made a right turn on to a busy road, and the vehicle just died. With a garbage truck fast approaching I continued to apply the gas, and the vehicle finally accelerated. *tr

Car vibrates excessively when idling or in park. Have three thousand miles on odometer and problem seems to be getting worse. Started happening immediately after purchasing car.

The slider was closed when the failure occurred and prevented glass from entering the vehicle. There were no injuries. The dealer (kendall Honda of fairbanks, 1000 Cadillac ct, fairbanks, ak 99701, (855) 981-5607) recommended that the vehicle be serviced at frontier glass (3401 peger rd b, fairbanks, ak 99709, (907) 451-4527). Frontier glass repaired the vehicle. The contact no longer owned the vehicle as it was traded in for a 2017 Honda ridgeline. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 25,000.

When stopped at intersection and taking foot off brake to proceed, occasionally car will not move forward with moderate gas pedal pressure. Backing off the gas slightly gets car going forward. Engine does not quit during these episodes, it just will not move car unless gas pedal position is changed by backing off a little. This can be very panic-inducing when timing cross-traffic for a crossing or merge. *tr
