2013 Hyundai Sonata owner complaints

Streering wheel making a thumping sound when its turned to left or right while car is on. Mechanic suggested it was possibly the bushings and mentioned their may have been a recall on this issue.

I am unable to access the Hyundai blue link software which controls remote start, engine stop, vehicle tracking and othet items. Hyundai dealer and Hyundai motor corp refuses to do anything making nthis vehicle and any others with the same feature a hazard. If someone hacks into my old emailaccount they can remotely start the car in our garage killing us, or remotely start and unlock the dorrs anywhere and there is nothing we can do. These vehicles should be recalled immediately and the corporate executives who have allowed this to continue be brought up on criminal charges. The car is also equipped with summer only tires in the midwest? Unsafe to drive in any cold weather with snow or ice.

The steering of the car, especially at highway speeds requires constant correction to keep centered. It does not pull to the left or right like when a vehicle is out of alignment. When the wheel is centered it feels "sticky", which causes the car to jerk to the left or right as corrections are needed to stay centered. The infamous steering coupler has been replaced when it was at its' worst. However, the problem persisted. The car was taken to tameron Hyundai in hoover, al and the steering mode was set to gls, but did not improve steering. I took the car back a second time to be evaluated, and the service technician deemed it "normal operation".

My wife and I bought a new 2013 Hyundai Sonata GLS in August of 2013, which is now over eleven years ago. In late September 2024, with still fewer than 100,000 miles on the car, I noticed a snapping sensation/clunk sound in its steering column when changing the direction of steering (from left to right/right to left.) I researched this symptom and, with the confirmation of a Hyundai Dealer's Service Manager, diagnosed the problem as a failing soft coupler between the car's steering column and "Motor Driven Power Steering" motor. NHTSA is aware of the problem, and Hyundai was compelled to issue an elusively brief warranty extension. Clicking noise while steering, safety at risk up too and leading to death. Problem confirmed by independent service center and authorized dealer. No warning, occurred randomly including vibrations. Was told known issue its the steering coupler part.

It is an ongoing steering problem. The car cannot be centered on the road (continuously drifts left or right). The higher the speed, the more pronounced and dangerous the problem. I had the car to two different Hyundai dealers and was told they were aware of the situation but nothing could be done to correct it. I contacted Hyundai motors and all I received was a vague form letter. I looked into the situation on the internet and was shocked at how prevalent this problem was. My vehicle will suddenly drop in speed regardless of increasing gas, by adding pressure to the gas pedal. It is also making an odd noise from the engine. I took it to the mechanic who stated that they heard the noise but it was beyond their scope and I should take it to the dealer. I called the service department and told them the problem and also mentioned the lifetime engine warranty that Hyundai was pressured to offer. Having to add 1-2 quarts of oil per month and engine knock noise has started and been louder when oil is low.

While car was accelerating on the interstate a loud knocking noise began. The engine noise continued to grow. I stopped momentarily for an appointment praying the car would start. When I came back out it did restart but the engine noise was worse, I called the local Hyundai dealership & described the situation. I informed them I would be driving the car to them. Not once did they mention engines seizing in this make! I proceeded to get back on the interstate and accelerate with increasing knocking of the engine. The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle there was a knocking sound coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who diagnosed that the engine was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 53,000.

The passenger tail light routinely burns out melting the plastic tail light assembly

Airbag light comes on and stays on. I can reset it and the light goes away but comes back later.

The contact stated that upon placing the vehicle into the (R) reverse position; the vehicle independently accelerated backward into her neighbor's driveway and hit two parked vehicles. The engine needs to be replaced. Broke down while driving on a city street. The car has less than 80000 miles. I gave this car to my son so evidently the power train warranty is gone. My complaint is that this engine should have lasted longer. That is what Hyundai claims.

On december 9, 2015 I was on route 9 driving south, the speed limit is 40 MPH, I applied the brake, as a school bus was stopped in front of me to drop off a child, the accelerator was racing, I kept pushing on the brake and the car finally stopped. I was a few inches from the back of the bus. Fortunately no accident. Then on december 24, 2015, I was pulling into a parking lot applying the brake and again the car accelerator was going so fast, I picked my foot up and slammed it on the brake and the car would not stop.the car sounded like it was going to take off, it was racing so fast. I experienced an unexplained, uncontrolled vehicle acceleration. I started the vehicle, moved the gear shift to drive and it immediately accelerated out of control. I was unable to control the vehicle as it raced across a parking lot, jumped a curb, ran up and then back down an embankment and crossed back across the parking lot until the acceleration ceased. I started smelling a little gas in the 20th. And on the 21st it got a lot worse so I took it to the dealership. This is the same place that replaced the engine because it failed and it was a recall. I let them know of the recall and they said it is not covered. They told me it was the high-pressure fuel line that connects to the pump. I have provided a picture of what the tech said.

About a year ago, I went out one morning, and the Rear Passenger Door would not engage or open. I tried using the key fob, as well as manual lock, trying to lock and unlock, and it still would not open. No one can get into the car from the outside. No one can get out of the car from the inside. This especially is very dangerous. Nothing has changed. I would like Hyundai to repair my door, since it is inoperable. In case of accident, fire, or other reason, someone would be locked in to their detriment.

I just purchased a 2013 Hyundai sonata. The car tends to wander on the highway mostly left but sometimes right. It will not stay straight. I have already brought it back to the dealer twice and they tell me that it is within spec. At first they tried to tell me that it was because I was not used to electric steering. This is not the case. I have test driven other vehicles with this type of steering that do not exhibit wandering on the highway. I found out belatedly that this problem was much worse in the 2011 and 2012 model years and that they implemented a fix. Well the fix doesn't work. Driving 65 MPH on the highway my car sounded like it was going to fall apart. Then 2 mins later it shuts off on me. Leaving me stranded for an hour on i66. Had to have it towed back to my house. I've been complaining about hearing knocking noises and my lights coming on while driving but whenever I took it to the dealership of course the car never made the noises.
