2013 RAM 1500 owner complaints

To whom it may concern, I'm currently experiencing an intermittent flashing red steering column and exclamation point on my dash as well as the power steering disengaging, forcing me to manually wrestle with the steering wheel while trying to control the truck without crashing and potentially killing myself as well as others. I googled this issue and came across the instructions on how reset the EPS by resetting the system by turning the truck off, then back on and turning the steering wheel fully to the left and holding then to the right and holding. This was just a temporary fix until it happened again. Then I reached out to the dealership and they suggested that I reach out to Ram Customer Care. Electronic power steering intermittent failure. Vehicles power steering ‘service now’ light comes on and abruptly shuts off power steering and will abruptly turn back on several miles/ days later. This causes a severe safety risk as the module will autocorrect steering mid turn or shutdown completely causing the vehicle to lose control. The problem has been reproduced by a third party mechanic stating that the EPS needs to be replaced at a cost of $3700 and the part is on back order/ unsure when they can get the unit.

Brought this vehicle and drove it for 1 month before power steering went out. I was driving on the interstate at a high speed when the power steering light came on. I was unable to steer the vehicle off the road so I had to stop on the interstate and call a tow truck.

Truck became undrivable when power steering failed without warning. I was lucky to not have been on the road, otherwise it would've likely been a serious accident.

Electric steering assist failure, no previous warnings. Alert on dash to have steering system checked when putting truck in drive. Restart of engine did not correct. Extreme difficulty steering the vehicle. Will take to dealer for initial diagnosis.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked in the driveway of the residence, the steering wheel seized without warning at start-up. The contact had to wait for approximately 24 hours for the vehicle to resume normal operation. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. Cumberland Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram (1550 interstate dr, cookeville, tn 38501, (931) 263-0321) was contacted and confirmed that the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 63,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 Ram 1500. While operating the vehicle, the electric power steering became inoperable and the steering wheel became very difficult to turn. The failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The local dealer (arrigo Dodge, 5851 s. Us hwy 1, fort pierce, fl) and the manufacturer were notified, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 4,800. The VIN was unknown.

Was driving and steering just locked up. Power steering stopped working and it’s so hard to turn or parallel park. Drove right into this big hill. The dealership wants $4,500 for parts and labor to repair it.

Lost my eps while I'm driving on school zone and can't turn the wheels snd i end on crash it

Driving at 40MPH and 2013 Ram 1500 experienced total and complete loss of power steering with no warning. I was narrowly able to avoid getting into an accident and cannot drive the truck given the strength needed to turn the wheel. Cost from dealer is estimated to be around $4,500 after parts and labor / taxes and could take months since the part is on backorder. The dealer said there have been multiple issues like this and unfortunately there is not yet a recall other than one from a few years ago that looks very similar to what I experienced. I don't have any other transportation and will likely have to pay to get it fixed. Going to sell it and never buy Ram again.

Periodically when turning my steering wheel the dash and radio screen turn off and re-boot. When making a turn, left or right, every display and gauge on the dash and the radio/ back up camera screen all shut off and re-boot as if you have just put the key in and turned the ignition to the on position. I have no information for roughly 15 to 30 seconds.

Bought the pickup in january 2016 one previous owner everything original the passenger side headlight connector pin needs tightened constantly because the low beam high beam loses connection and won't come on unless you pull headlight and tighten the connector pins. It happens at various times in various situations while driving it will also flicker on and off. Parklight works fine. I don't know actual date because it is so frequently so the date is an estimate. There have been several instances where my gauge cluster intermittently reboots itself while driving. I would say this occurrence has happened over 20 times during the year I have owned my truck. I bought it back in of september 2013. In addition, I have noticed that my map lights flicker. Not sure if it's an electrical issue. I've brought my truck in to the Ram dealership for service and they cannot duplicate the issue and unfortunately there are no error logs in the truck's computer system. My Ram 1500 manufactured 2013 stopped suddenly and refused to start up again with all electrical equipment been working regularly. This is the second time happened to me after two weeks only. The problem has been reported immediately to my closest agent. The first report didn't diagnose any defect on the truck. I consider this incident as a very high and critical safety issue. *tr

No heat on driver's side coming from any vents. Visibility affected in cold weather. First noticed around october 22, 2018 when heater was turned on while driving on highway. Continued when in town and stationary.

The contact owns a 2013 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 55-60 MPH, the defroster was engaged but failed to respond or perform as designed. The contact rolled down the windows due to the loss of visibility of the roadway. Additionally, the vehicle lost heating system functionality. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to continue driving. The contact stated that he recalibrated the defroster actuator; however, the failure persisted, and the vehicle would only blow cold air. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V177000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 206,500.

Upon starting vehicle made loud ticking noise, and was running a bit rough, next morning again started the truck and it was making ticking noise but now was losing horsepower so we had truck towed to shop thinking could be something easy, truck maintenance maybe. Mechanic stated the c clip on the lifter had broken and the truck was utilizing 7 cylinders and not 8. Mechanic stated he couldn't pin point a cause for this to have happened, but the repair would be costly. Unfortunately we are not under any warranty of any kind, I was looking on the internet to see if this was under recall or if there was a reasonable cause for this type of breakdown however found that many on the 2013 engines are experiencing this same issue. I was returning home from a short trip on the interstate and I had just made a turn on the street we live on when I heard a ding sound. My wife and I noticed that there was a message on the display that showed, "service electronic throttle control". It stayed on only a second and disappeared. I didn't really notice any effect to the driving capability, but this is the first time that message has appeared and I notice that there are two similar complaints posted here about the same message. On 12/7/16, a desolate, straight, country road, I stopped my truck to investigate damage from a deer that had run into the driver's fender while I was driving about 25 MPH. Even though I placed the truck in park after my stop (to make it stationary), the Ram started moving as I attempted to exit its cabin; and then it drove for about 300 feet at idle speed down the road, where it stopped in a shallow drainage ditch. Meanwhile, the Ram's "self-driving" mode had caused me to slip on the running board and to fall very hard to the ground (a distance of at least 22 inches).
