At approximately 64k miles our xv crosstrek began emitting a loud hum from the rear and our gas mileage decreased significantly (18 MPG). When we took it into our mechanic, he found that the rear hubs were dangerously degraded and that the rear differential was failing. In his opinion, failure of those systems at only 64k miles suggested a design or part defect.

65000 miles just over the warranty I had to replace both 2 axels and 2 cv joints and $4000 later I am told we have to now replace the transmission because it stalled out slipped while I was trying to turn onto a busy road with my children in the car. I bought this car used at 46000 miles for 17200 in july 2017. I didn't think these types of problems existed in low mileage cars. I've owned a Volvo I drove for 164,000 miles never had to replace an axel or transmission, my Honda cr-v I drove for over 100,000 miles with no issues at all. I wanted a Subaru because I heard great things about them I thought I did my research didn't think I'd be paying large amounts of money to fix it while I was still paying a car payment on the thing. I'm very disappointed and scared for the safety of myself an

The recall Type: Safety Service Campaign:WTY84 NHTSA Campaign: 18V772000 FB20 Valve Spring Replacement was reported completed by the manufacturer Subaru has no record of it being done. My car is now experiencing symptoms of this recall when I had no issues prior and want me to pay to look into the problem further. Now my vehicle has a check engine light for a recall that was potentially not done as I have no proof that it was completed.

Recently, with only 60,434 miles (and actually a little before this), the axle had to be replaced on my 2013 crosstrek Subaru. I was told that this was due to bad roads. But, after having owned many cars, never has an axle had to be replaced. I am writing because there is another owner of a 2013 crosstrek who had the same issue, noted on this website and was given the same excuse that I was. Clearly, there is a problem mechanically with these axles. In fact, their advertisement for the crosstrek shows the vehicle on a bumpy dirt road. There is a problem here.

I was accelerating while merging onto a freeway when the engine rpms suddenly dropped and the car slowed way down. Fortunately, the traffic was light, and the cars behind me on the on-ramp and on the freeway were able to avoid my car as I pulled to the shoulder. Fortunately there was a wide, clear shoulder to pull onto as I tried to figure out what was happening. I shifted into manual mode and attempted to upshift. I don't know if this had any effect or if the problem resolved spontaneously, but I was able to resume driving.

The fan in my car, that controls the heat/air-conditioning, went out causing my windows to fog up since it was raining & I couldn't use the dehumidifier. I couldn't see & had to manually wipe my windshield several times & drive with my hazard lights on in order to get the car home. There were no warning lights on the dashboard. I took the car to a mechanic shop on another day, when they could not find the problem through a diagnostic the mechanic took apart the dashboard & that's when he found the wires connected to the control panel were melting/overheating. He said it was very dangerous because it could cause the car to catch fire. He said he had to leave the wires disconnected to prevent the car catching fire until the wires and control panel could be replaced. When I looked up if other

Driving on the freeway my car lost power i pulled off to the side and tried to restart it. As I have the ignition turned over for 30 to 40 seconds the starter sounded erratic and the oil temperature light was flashing. I sat there for about ten minutes and tried again and it did the same thing but it started. This power loss has happened twice. The erratic noise coming from the ignition, and the hesitation of starting is a regular ongoing issue along with the oil temperature light. Since the first stall at about 117000 miles on the odometer the car has been burning oil at a rate of a full quart about every 3000 miles. #2 Around 120000 miles my key wouldn't come out of the ignition. This happened first on a late night in a high crime area. I actually had to leave my keys in my ignitio

At various times of day or night, the brake lights turn on, while there is no one in the vehicle. The vehicle sits parked and is locked with the security on, and the lights just randomly turn on by themselves. The only way to turn the lights off is to go into the vehicle and step on the brake and then the lights are off after releasing the brake pedal. If the lights stay on, because it’s not noticed, then the battery drains and then needs to be jumped. It is concerning for vehicles traveling behind, because one wouldn’t know if there is an issue happening while traveling and could cause someone to be rear ended.

On two occasions while traveling over 70 MPH on I-26 outside of columbia, sc the vehicle's electric system appeared to malfunction and vehicle died immediately. The clock, fuel economy readings, and radio shut off. The vehicle stalled and had to be maneuvered to the shoulder of the interstate with no acceleration capability or power steering. The vehicle was capable of being restarted. On the first occasion, I restarted the vehicle and there were no faults, errors or anything noted so I continued to drive, assuming it was a one time event. The second time, the same problem happened and then a check engine light appeared. Following the second time, check engine illuminated, as well as the traction control light, and the cruise control image was blinking. Prior to all of these problems, I wa

After taking my vehicle into dealership for valve spring recall, service rep also suggested oil change at same time. I agreed. As soon as I drove it off the dealership lot, check oil light came on. I immediately returned car to have it checked but dealership said oil was full, probably faulty sensor and sent me away without fully checking the car. Check oil light would intermittently light up when driving locally. Then engine tapping sound and check engine light started a few weeks later while driving locally but indicator lights would turn off for short periods immediately after starting car, or while driving up or down steep inclines. Local mechanic confirmed that oil pressure was low and recommended taking it back to dealership. Another dealership is now disassembling the engine and rec

A piece of the sunroof assembly punctured through the headliner into the passenger seat area of the vehicle. The piece is a sharp 10 inch spike with a spring wrapped around it. Had the piece come into the driver side or if there had been a passenger. It would have gone into there head, either causing an accident or severe injury to the driver or passenger.

I had the brake lamp switch recall performed in may of 2019 and now all of a sudden my brake lights are turning on all of a sudden by themselves at night time. The car is parked, not running and locked. I think I have received a defective switch. When I notice this I must go outside and step on the brake to turn them off. This has happened 3 different times this month.

There is a little space between the brake lamp switch and brake that has my brake lights constantly on. While I am driving if I don't keep my left foot under the brake pedal and pushing it up then the brake lights will constantly be on. If I don't keep my foot there then sometimes when I am going up a hill or driving the car will drop rpms and then I have to put my foot under the brake and push it up again. Also, when driving the hill assist light, on the dashboard will turn on and the car will roll down the hill any direction when in reverse or drive because of the switch. I had gone to Subaru to do the recall for the brake lamp switch and then a few weeks after this issue began to occur.

The oil level warning light was iluminated. I stopped and added oil. This is a constant problem which is causing me to add a quart of oil once per week. The dealer has a fix but only for vehicles under warranty and since my vehicle is out of warranty, I'll have to pay out of pocket. From online searches, this is an issue affecting many cars. The cost, for me, will be in the thousands of dollars.
