2014 Chevrolet Malibu owner complaints

Rocker arm control valve- gm part # 12633613 . Causes chugging, shuddering, slow acceleration, delay when going from a stopped position (I.e. Stop light/ sign), poor gas mileage. Check engine light remains on and will not allow for remote start to be used. Driving at any rate of speed over 15 MPH, either in town or highway/ interstate, the engine will chug or try to stall. Also going over 45 MPH, will cause the vehicle to shudder when driving. Acceleration is delayed, causing issues while at intersections

I am filing a complaint regarding a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu that I purchased from a dealership on November 22, 2024. The vehicle was advertised as being in “excellent condition” at the dealership’s site. During the test drive, I raised concerns about potential transmission issues, but the dealership assured me that the vehicle was “clean” and safe to drive. Unfortunately, this assurance turned out to be false, as the vehicle has since displayed significant mechanical failures, including overheating issues, that pose serious safety risks. Within a week of purchase, the vehicle broke down twice: first on November 29, while driving to work, and again on November 30, while on I-10 Katy freeway. When driving car starts to jerk. Sometime it feels like a major jolt and other times it a slight jerking feeling. I've complained the 1st year I got the vehicle and then 2 years later I also complained about the same issue. When it was in for service problem was not duplicated nor any indication of of issues when the vehicle was checked by the dealership. No warning light indicating vehicle issue are present. This only happens when the vehicle is being driven. I don't feel safe in the vehicle and no one from the service department can tell me anything about whats going on. This really need to be resolved asap.

My car shut down while behind someone at a traffic light, I had to park car, take key out ignition and but back in then drive. The dealership said I needed new batteries in less than 24hrs and less than 30 miles driven car was doing the same thing. Now sane dealership is saying need a transmission without explanation on what is actually going on. After reading several messages boards it appears this is not an uncommon thing in Chevrolet vehicles with the stop start feature enabled

The "auto stop" has stopped working. It is suppose to shut down the engine after a complete stop to conserve fuel however the tachometer indicates that the engine is still running and does not drop to "auto stop" at the bottom of the tachometer. This does not save any fuel and it completely worthless.

Driving car on the expressway hit a puddle ABS light along with check stabil trak and check break assist system come on, few minutes down the road attempt to break and turn wheel neither work, hit guard rail l, after hitting guard rail another warning light saying service power steering, drive with care appears, took to dealer filed claim with gm to fix body damage for manufactures defect. Gm did nothing, blamed issue on whee bearing.

Steering gets stuck in the center position while driving on straightaways and requires force to correct it which causes over steering the vehicle. The car only has 10,000 miles on it and didn't do it when new. It is very uncomfortable driving this car as you are constantly correcting the steering.

Car turns off the engine light is on and found out the rocker arm solenoid valve is not working I'm afraid to drive the car I don't know what to do I have not had the car not even one year. I'm afraid to drive the car for it to turn off in the highway luckily it was on the street when the car just turned off

I received a notice from gm on 12/05/2014 stating: "the letter is intended to make you aware that some 2014 model year Chevrolet malibu vehicles may have increased friction in the steering system. This could cause the steering wheel to stick in the straight-ahead position after driving long distances on a straight highway. The steering wheel can be turned but it may require increased effort. Do not take your vehicle to your Chevrolet dealer as a result of this letter unless you believe that your vehicle has the condition as described above." I am filing this safety complaint to have the 2014 Chevrolet malibu recalled. This is an accident waiting to happen. 6 months ago our car’s auto stop/start feature started to malfunction. The car will stall and sputter on the start after coming to a stop. This is very dangerous! On multiple occasions, the car would not accelerate through a turn on a light stalling out in the intersection. we have also been nearly rear-ended at red lights because the vehicle will not accelerate on a green light. This issue is well discussed on the Internet with many owners reporting the same issue. Chevrolet should be held accountable for this repair. This is not an isolated event with my vehicle.

The engine light came on with ap2646 code. After attempting to repair, and the code remaining I attempted to find part 12633613. Unable to locate the part I brought it in to a garage. They replaced the same part I had already replaced, and still the engine light remained. They were also unable to locate the referenced part online or through a dealership (mangino Chevrolet). I contacted several dealerships and gm, the party is discontinued and back ordered at parts stores and dealerships. Without this part, the car can not be inspected and becomes a safety issue, and s legal issue of continued to operate on the road (in ny and elsewhere I imagine). When my auto stop function initiates my battery loses power and cuts off my car completely.

The vehicle will still be running after I turn the engine off and take the key out of ignition.

Was driving at about 55 MPH on a state road, engine light came on the car slowed down to about 30 MPH in giving gas the engine ramped up but would not accelerate. Pulled over and stopped. Turned off the ignition waited a few minutes then turned the ignition on again. The car would not accelerate. Was able to get it to a dealer where it was diagnosed as needing transmission work. It is at the dealer now 12/13/19. The car has 92,000 miles on it bought it brand new in 2014.

powertrain there is a problem with auto stop restarting then dying. The transmission not engaging after a complete stop like it is neutral this only happens after the car has been driven a bit everything at temp. today stopped for trash service auto stop engaged got ready to go nothing gunning and gunning never died like no power though finally moved no more stops till home a problem sitting in road can not move. have not taken to shop yet money for it now not.

The contact owned a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that after he replaced his radiator, his vehicle caught fire. The fire department was called to the scene and extinguished the fire. The vehicle was destroyed and no injuries were reported. The contact was not certain if a police/fire report was filed. The vehicle had yet to be towed and remained in the possession of the contact. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle was a total loss. The failure mileage was approximately 180,000.

On 11/19/19, I was driving on a side street (25 MPH) when the reduced engine power light came on in my 2014 Chevy malibu. Whereas, 2014 Chevrolet malibus equipped with 18" tires do have sufficient ceiling height to safely park in a public or private parking lot, that has parking space bumper stoppers. These parking space bumper stoppers are located in public parking lots as in walmart, post office, shopping centers, malls, food stores, airports, etc. You name it, wherever there is are public parking spaces, a motorist will be confronted with a parking space bumper stoppers. In 2016 I started experiencing issues with my cruise control working sometimes & sometimes not. After a year or so while driving my car ABS light indicator light came on (oct.2017) after taken it to an authorized gm dealer it was found that my left rear wheel hub unit bearing broke, a little over a month later, the ABS & the stability trac light came on. This time it was the right rear wheel hub unit bearing broke. It controls all that takes place with stopping, cruise control,skidding, breaking,etc.... Extremely expensive per tire & not safe! After quite a bit of research the malibu & impalas are well known for this issue.I was driving both times when this happened, I was traveling down an expressway(I-75)!
