2016 Chevrolet Trax owner complaints

My daughter was driving the Chevy trax when the engine light came on. I scanned the car when she got home. Code was p0420 for low converter efficiency. I put the car up on my car lift and found that the flex pipe behind the converter was separated most likely from rust. This is allowing exhaust gasses into the car and it is dangerous. This is happening on many Chevy trax and Chevy cruz vehicles. I took it to the dealer and they will not cover the repair. She has owned it 4.5 years and has only 28,000 miles on it. We purchased a major guard warranty from gm when we bought the car but they denied the repair. This is a safety issue. The paint is also peeling off of the hood but they say that is not covered either even though this is happening to many gm cars.

I've had nothing but problems from this engine. I bought brand new in 2016. 2017 I had to have the whole radio system replaced as it quit. 2018, I was driving and check engine light came on . Took to shop and two spark plugs and iginition coil was bad at 32,000 miles. 2019, engine light came on in june and I loss power, engine made high squeal noise and it was just sputtering. Took to shop and they said it was camshaft seal and cover so that was replaced and of course warranty was out. Just this month, dec 2019, it started doing the same thing again and this time they said it was the camshaft cover again (which they would cover under shop warranty) and it was also the intake manifold and gasket. Which ended up costing me $500. For a car that is only 3 yrs old. I've paid out $1500 in repair

When I get on highway doing faster speed my car is very loud inside like a bad air leak coming from back somewhere. This is very annoying can't use blue tooth phone because you cannot hear to have a conversation or hear the radio at a normal volume because it is so loud. Had I known this I would have never bought this vechicle.

This involves the drivers bottom seat assy. Within 10,000 of driving this vehicle, noticed the foam padding was breaking down on the left side of the seat cushion. When this occurs, you end up sitting on a round steel tube which is part of the seat frame. I was able to have the gm dealer replace under warranty, within approx. 10,00 miles again the seat cushion has degraded to the point of sitting on metal. I then contacted Chevrolet service, see service request number: 8-3426353686. After describing the issue, was contacted by the dealer, told them was a design flaw, told Chevrolet this, was then told to replace would cost money. I would have no issue with this except the seat is poorly designed and needs to be redesigned.

I have replaced five catalytic converters since I have owned this vehicle. Please advise.

I purchased the 2016 Chevy Trax used. The car has 68,000 miles on it. I've had issues with this car since I purchased it. The check engine light came on once again with same code as always P0420. I brought it to a Chevy dealer and they finally replace the catalytic converters. Today I get a letter from Chevrolet stating my cars engine 1.4L may have a condition that could cause the turbocharger to fail due to sticking wastegate actuator linkage. Shouldn't this be a recall? No right now it says to keep this letter safe and if anything happens to engine within the 10 years after car was made or 120,000 miles then they will pay for repair. I would think it would be cheaper to fix the part now then replace everything that gets damaged after the fact no?

I have had this car for three years and have had so many issues with it that I could've paid it off by now if I wasn't constantly fixing it. I have replaced the turbo intercooler because it froze last winter and the check engine light came on. I was told by the dealership it was safe to drive until the part came in but it couldn't go over 10mph so it was unusable to me. I have also replaced the entire turbo once when it blew up from an oil leak that I was unaware of as I am not very knowledgeable with vehicles. Now we had to replace another part on the turbo because it was leaking oil again and the mechanic said we couldn't replace the whole turbo right away as we had to try small fixes first to be covered under the warranty. Replacing this part did help and there is still oil leaking from

Check engine light came on when I cranked the car up. Went to have it checked and at first it was a bad o2 sensor. That was fixed and two days later the check engine light was back on, took it back in and now I have to replace the air intake system on a vehicle with right at 27,000 miles on it. Both times, I keep getting diagnostic alerts from onstar telling me to check the antilock braking system and the stabilitrak control system.

At 30k miles all lights would light up and something would drive wrong. From steering to low acceleration and everything in between. Dealership unable to figure out problem as well as local shops. It's back in at dealership. They recently ordered the underhood fuse box to be installed at $980.00 and now telling me it's still not fixing the problem.

On 11/23/19 I'm just leaving home early on saturday morning and on timaquana rd while I was driving my 2016 trax locked up on me and my Chevrolet trax motor just stopped in the middle of the road , this could have been fatal and thank god I didn't get crushed in the middle of traffic. All the lights came on as if it was electric problem

This site is useless. There are so many complaints about the 2016 Chevrolet Trax on here, but yet nobody is doing anything about it! I believe it is a severe safety hazard for all vehicles on the highway when a vehicle loses power without warning , whether it is on the interstate, or a residential street! But I guess the manufacturer does not think it's a safety hazard, but apparently if your vehicle doesn't remind you to take your key out of the car when you turn it off, or to put your seatbelt on ,Now, that's what they consider to be a REAL SAFTEY HAZARD!!! Forget the bells and buzzers, if that's the most important thing, you shouldn't be driving anyway. This vehicle has been a problem since we purchased it 2yrs ago and now it is sitting in the driveway and will not start at all. We

Cruise control setting does not display the speed you're setting it to, and also registers an incorrect speed at times. There have been 2-3 times now that I have tried to set my cruise control (clicking set while going a certain speed, the light turns green but my vehicle began to increase rapidly. I couldn't figure out what speed I had it set to, and my foot was not on the accelerator, so there is no confusion as to why it was speeding up.

My car loses power and will not accelerate up hills, in the cold on the freeway in the morning (6:00am pst). Check engine light comes on. It has been to the shop 6 times since feb. 2019 for the same issue of check engine light comes on, loss of power, emissions-air leaks which cause loss of power. I will have to upload documents at a later date as I do not have them today. Sending car back to Chevrolet dealership for another check engine light, loss of power on the freeway while passing a slow moving truck.

Seat Belt clips are not present, they have been cut out of the vehicle.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet trax. On three different occasions, the rear driver's and middle seat seat belts failed to latch. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer (puente hills Chevrolet, 17300 gale ave, city of industry, ca, 91748) where it was diagnosed that the seat belt failed and needed to be replaced. The rear driver's seat belt was replaced as a courtesy, but the failure recurred. The middle seat seat belt also failed. The same dealer was notified and did not assist. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was unknown.

Trax has squeaky and squealing brakes every time brakes are applied. This noise started off every once in a while, now is a consistent headache. Took to dealer serice and they couldn't find anything wrong, ok squealing brakes and they couldn't find anything wrong... All they could come up with is that all vehicles do that if it sits for long periods. The vehicle is driven every day. Chevrolet must really think it's customers are really stupid. I have owned lots of vehicle's in my life and have not once ran into this problem. I am a first time Chevrolet purchase customer, if and when this problem gets resolved I will never buy another Chevrolet product again.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet trax. While driving 25 MPH, the vehicle lost brake functionality and was involved in a crash. The failure occurred without warning. A police report was filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be replicated. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 8,500. The VIN was not provided.

The shift button sticks when putting the car into park which 1. Does not allow the key to be removed and 2. Allows the shifter to be accidentally moved into gear which is a major safety issue.

We had an single car crash. The car went over a curb and down an embankment and [xxx] near took out a wooden walk way with people near by on the walkway it ended up totaling ($20,000 in damage ) our brand new Chevy trax 2016. And when all 11.......... Airbags right 11 airbags and not one when off and we both had seat belt on but I still managed to hit my head so hard I had an small indent in my head and u would think brand new car and 11 air bags u think you would b save ....?? Tl* the contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet trax. The contact stated that the steering seized in the middle of traffic when the contact attempted to turn the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle had a recall inspection performed for the same failure at jack schmitt Chevrolet of o'fallon (127 regency park, o'fallon, il 62269, (618) 628-2500). The vehicle was not repaired at that time. The dealer stated that they would have to wait until monday to look at the vehicle again and they had no loaner vehicles. The contact even checked with another dealer and was informed to take the vehicle back to the original dealer to close out the repair. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 115,749.
