I leased a 2017 BMW x3 with 3370 miles on it so almost brand new. I have a 7.6 mile commute from work to home. I was driving home from work around 230pm pst south on the 405 (highway) in los angeles. I pull up to my house and park the vehicle on my city street. I park turn off the vehicle and lock the doors and walk into my house. Within 15 minutes, my neighbor knocks on my door and informs me that my car is on fire. When I look outside at my vehicle, in between the hood of my car and front windshield are spitting flames out onto the windshield. It then proceeded to burn fast and hot and there were 30 foot flames that had ruined our fence as well as singed our neighbors tree. When I am coming to a stop sign, the engine revs up and makes it difficult to stop. I need to apply the brakes very hard to avoid hitting another car or person in a cress walk. Even when I apply the brakes hard, the car will lurch forward. I have taken it to two different BMW dealers multiple times over the past two years and they cannot find anything wrong. They test drive the car, but because the problem is sporadic and may only occur once a month, it does not do it when they test drive the car.

Alternator overcharging producing 16v and causing system to go to fail safe mode. It will shut off vehicle and switch it in park mode. While driving any mode then eco and auto shutoff turned off. Vehicle will shut off, sometime when break released it will start and you can continue driving, other times will not start and will disengage transmission and switch to park mode. With warning that "transmission is malfunctioning " "do not turn off engine or continued driving may not be possible. Consult nearest service center

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 BMW x3. While driving approximately 20 MPH uphill, the vehicle stalled. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was towed to park ave BMW (530 huyler street, south hackensack, nj 07606) where it was diagnosed that the fuel delivery module under the rear seat got wet and shorted out. As a result, fuel was not being delivered to the engine. The night before, the contact stated that there was a cooler in the rear seat that tilted and spilled water and ice onto the rear seat. The seat was immediately cleaned. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 20,441.

CARVANA - SOLD ME A 2ND LEMON. Vehicle has significant oil leak. Front of engine as well as underside of engine is covered in oil. Alternator is saturated in oil. (Eventually burning out the alternator) Serpentine belt is also saturated in oil making it swell and becoming soft. Also makes the belt slippery and outside edge of belt is damaged. The sunroof water drains back up and causes water to pool in the cargo area where electronic components are stored (wheel well like area) which causes an alarm to go off and hatchback malfunctions. My previous x3 had hatchback issues too. BMW states the frame that sun roof sits in is cracked but not caused by user behavior.

Car has broken down five times, each after having been driven several hours. Car suddenly looses power and dies. Will not restart- requires tow. All repair attempts have been made at BMW dealers. Seat mat sensor module which detects presence of passenger in the seat has malfunctioned sooner than expected.

During my normal city driving route the brakes started making an awful screeching noise. I pulled over within 1 city block of hearing the noise and my rear disc brake rotor had a large groove worn into it. The dealership said there was a rock that got stuck between the pad and the rotor and they would repair the car for free, which included ordering parts. I thought it was strange when I called the dealership & the clerk that answered the phone said that this happens often, so they just repair it for free. I asked if it was a defect in the design, they assured me it wasn't but it makes me question how often this happens and what is the accident rate associated with this issue. I've never had a vehicle get a rock lodged between the rotor and pad. The specs for the space between the two are

The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the high-pressure fuel pump. The vehicle was not repaired.
