2017 Subaru WRX owner complaints

While operating vehicle on two different occasions car shut down and I had a very hard time steering and breaking vehicle.

The Direct Injection Engine causes valves to become coated in carbon build-up, unlike indirect injections which constantly clean the valves. This issue then results in the sudden loss of power and engine stalls (often when attempting to accelerate from low speeds) which are extremely dangerous when attempting to merge or turn in traffic. Subaru has not addressed the issue but based on online searches it appears to be a major issue for all 2.0l direct injection engines.

I have had the car multiple times idle hard then die both when stopped at stoplights and when coming to a stop. This is the CVT not the manual and I have contacted the dealer the first time it happened and they said "this is normal operation" which I don't think the car dying when I come to a stop is "normal operation".

Stalling. I have a 2017 Subaru wrx CVT. I was at a red light and the car idled hard and stalled, again this is a CVT not a manual.

Clutch on manual transmission has burned out twice in 13000 miles. Dealer blames driver and is not looking hard for other causes. We are 100% positive this is not caused by driver error. Have been stranded on highway twice in less than a year.

Pampered 2017 Subaru wrx, auto transmission, 61,545 highway miles and proof of oil changes between 5,000 and 7,000 miles, synthetic 5-30. Car idling at stop light when tapping noise started and then oil light lite up but quickly went out. Pulled over to check oil and found oil level mid level in safe zone. Engine didn't burn or leak oil between oil changes. Giles Subaru in lafayette la said the engine "must have been run low on oil." they believe it started with the #2 rod bearing going out. I've been a mechanic for the last 38 years, I check oil levels often. Short block replacement was $9,957.50. Repair took 31 days. Premature clutch failure. Tsb out on clutch but dealership will not preform repairs. Needs to be a full recall. Not caused by driver error.

Throw-Out bearing design defective flaw for 2015 2016 2017 2018 SUBARU WRX PREMATURE CLUTCH FAILURE. Bearing has been making noises since before 10,000 miles and dealers fail to diagnose or repair under warranty. Searches on the internet show it is a common problem affecting hundreds, if not thousands, of vehicles.

The current issues with my recently purchased used vehicle are as follows: Clutch, odometer tampering, steering rack, 2 axle leaks, electrical issues, inspection issues. I tried to see if the dealership that I bought the car from is willing to fix these issues they keep going back and forth with me on these issues even though I just recently purchased the car stating that I have to pay for it. Hit a deer. Airbags did not deploy, however I have reasonable suspicion to believe my head hit the A pillar during impact.

Going about 55mph, I struck a deer head on. It struck towards the center, but more so on the passenger side. During the impact, no airbags deployed, however, based off IIHS videos, it seems likely that they should have. Additionally, I have reasonable suspicion to believe I hit my head on the pillar of the door, which would have been unlikely if the airbags deployed.

I own a 2017 Subaru WRX. On 8/10/2019 I had the battery replaced at the dealership because it does for no reason. The battery died overnight and I had to jump the car to get it to the dealership. This happened again and the battery replaced at the dealership on 9/29/2022. This time the battery got weaker each time I started the car over a period of 3 days then one day it didn't start. I had to jump to get to the dealership. They reaplaced the battery and I said I didn't want to pay because this is the 2nd time it's been replaced in 4 years. He told me to join a class action settlement for defective batteries.

The vehicle was taken to reeves Subaru tampa (813-375-3660, located at 1111 n florida ave, tampa, fl 33612) where it was diagnosed that the bearings failed and needed to be replaced. The bearings were replaced, but the failure recurred. The same dealer replaced the bearings again, but the failure recurred. The dealer diagnosed that the failure was due to driver error and required the contact to be responsible for the repair cost. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and sided with the dealer. The vehicle was repaired at the owner's expense. The failure mileage was approximately 22,000.

The side mirrors shake at highway speeds rendering them useless. I've worked with the dealership to fix the issue only to be told that they all do this. I then had the mirror assembly replaced but still have the same issue. This severely inhibits my vision while driving.
