2018 Hyundai Tucson owner complaints

A connecting rod bearing was thrown through the engine block causing it to stall out on the freeway. This is exactly what is occurring with vehicles in the Theta Class Action Settlement but the company states my VIN number is not included.

Engine (1.6-liter turbocharged direct-injection four-cylinder) had a catastrophic failure driving along highway. Engine instantly lost power and stalled. No indicators on instrument cluster prior to engine stall, temperature gauge for coolant indicating nominal conditions. Upon pulling over to the side of the road, check engine & batter indicator lights shown on the instrument cluster. Hyundai's roadside assistance system, Bluelink, did not activate with the engine's stall. It was observed that a mix of antifreeze and oils were dripping behind the engine onto the ground. Dealer later discovered that a piston connection rod had punched through the wall of the engine block. Dealer has submitted issue to Hyundai Corporate. I bought my 2018 tuscon one year ago in June 2020. 70,000 miles on it now, regular maintenance. No warning lights, everything was running OK. I started experiencing hesitation taking off then lunging when stopped in the last few months. Now I'm sitting in the driveway because it won't start. Realized oil was low which is odd because I've noticed it's been burning more than previous but no more than a quart so it's not like it was dry. I'm supposed to be able to get 5k on an oil change now adays but starts running poorly if it's not changed by 3k. Needless to say iadded qt of oil I was going to get oil changed yesterday but wouldn't start. I changed the battery, still won't start, starter was tested good, fuses all in tack, changed camshaft sensors at 90 dollars a piece still noth

Emission light is on and called dealer for an appointment, stated they will called me when they can line me up with a tech and I still waiting.

My 2018 Hyundai Tucson has been experiencing oil consumption issues for over a year. It began at around 80k miles, when it should have been covered by warranty but they made me pay out of pocket for an oil consumption test only to ultimately recommend a top end cleaning, which I also paid for and it did not solve the problem. This is a known issue with Hyundai, and they have settled many lawsuits but have consistently denied any repair or solution for me. I am burning about 5 quarts of oil every week, and this is a problem they refuse to help solve.

I get oil changes quite frequently due to the mileage I put in a vehicle. I have 7 oil changes/tire rotations between november 2018 and november 2019. On november 13th 2019 my check engine like came on and at the same time my engine started making a knocking sound. Prior to this I had no indicators that anything was wrong. I immediately took it to the dealership and was informed that I need a new engine and that it's not covered under the warranty since I am the second owner. Motor knocking with only 65,000 miles. Not getting power

On Saturday, November 23rd, while driving down the highway the check engine light came on and the car would not accelerate past 40 mph. When accelerating from a stop, the car's acceleration is greatly diminished. The car was checked out be a local Hyundai dealership. After running a diagnostic, the mechanic reported the following: the car has a knock sensor code, valve stem seals are leaking a little bit, compression test showed low compression on all four cylinders (between 130 and 140) normally it is 185. This indicates wear in the rings and losing compression that way. Dealership says only option is to replace the engine. Currently have 95k miles on the car. I believe we are the second owners of this car.

Oil consumption, will change oil and within weeks i will be down 23 Quarts of oil

This is the 2nd time I have had a sensor indicator. The first was a knock sensor where my car barely made it across the road. Now another code for intake issues. If my car dies and I get hit Hyundai is liable. I know many people that have issues with their Hyundai dying and are without their cars waiting for repairs for. months and months, but the fact that I have a grandson and my car could die is incomprehensible. These cars need to be pulled off the market.

The engine on this vehicle burns oil quickly which is a known defect. I took the vehicle to the dealership and both times I was told everything was working fine. On 12/5/2025 the vehicle just lost power while driving. After getting the vehicle towed to a mechanic they said I needed a new engine.

Buy brand new off lot. Never miss Regular maintenance on engine oil and filters. Car had only 55200 miles. After 500 miles regular oil interval maintenance. Car underbody show no oil leaks anywhere on 12/05/2021 park on driveway. This morning Car not start without oil indicator or engine light warning comes up. Open hood up, check oil dip stick show no oil residue. Yike, where is low oil warning light sensor when no oil in engine. Apparently it not working or never have it on in my opinion. Gotta be recall issue for this. So I ran to Walmart get a quart of sythenic oil recommended and fill it up. Car start up find and drive ok for now. Not sure in future. This is a must recall on No Oil Indicator Sensor Malfunction!!!!!!!!!

The vehicle would not operate in drive or reverse from a parked position.

Rod bearing failure. Sounded like a tractor all of a sudden and stalled every time I’d come to a stop. Had it towed to the dealership. Awaiting word from Hyundai as to whether the warranty will cover this. Checked oil and wasn’t low. No check engine lights or oil lights or anything ever came on. No noises prior to this happening. Kept up on routine maintenance.

Same dual clutch problem as on 2016 Hyundai tucson. Hesitates for several seconds prior to engaging which causes significant danger in oncoming traffic. I had this same problem with the 2016 and Hyundai continued to deny any known problems. Now there is a class action lawsuit regarding this issue. I traded my 2016 in for the 2018 to get away from the problem because I was so scared. Now I have the same problem with the new car. This problem is ongoing. Also I was coasting with foot not on the pedal and not in cruise control and the RPM's shot up to 4200 then down to normal, then back up to 2200 and then back to normal. Very scary. This is my 2nd issue with this vehicle. Ever since I bought the vehicle I have always noticed that when I come to a complete stop (at a red light or stop sign) and I go to press on the gas the car doesn't go. It's like it hesitated before it starts to pick up speed. I always chalked it up to the fact that it was a 4 cylinder but after speaking to my mechanic I find out that this is not normal and can be the sign of a serious problem. There is currently no fix for this.

I was pulling into a parking spot in a shopping parking lot and stepped on the brake to stop, but the brakes failed and the car kept going and would not stop, ultimately rolling up over the curb onto the grass area and crashed into the concrete light post. In many Instances, I come close to get involved in accident. I cannot apply HARD BRAKING. When the hard braking is applied, I feel my foot is touching the ground and the brake cable is going to break. It is very scary and unsafe.

Tl* the contact owns a 2018 Hyundai tucson. While driving 45 MPH, the headlights failed to function. The contact had to activate the high beam headlights to see the road. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to nassief Hyundai (located at 1059 state rte 46 north, jefferson, oh 44047, (440) 576-1010), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 18,000.
