2018 Volkswagen Tiguan owner complaints

Driving 65 on highway, panoramic sunroof exploded for no reason.

The automatic emergency braking activated and slammed on the brakes, for no apparent cause. There were no cars, people, animals around. And luckily, no car was behind mine. This has happened NUMEROUS times previously, especially when going through roundabouts and downhill. This issue needs to be addressed by VW. I have mentioned it to service at a VW dealer, and they just tell you to turn off the front brake assist, but that is not a solution. Plus, you would have to turn it off EVERY time you start your car.

The third row of this vehicle is unsafe to transport passengers taller than 5'3' according to a warning on pg.95 of the owner's manual. This information is not available in any of the other literature about the vehicle.

While driving at no particular speed without objects/animals/other vehicles in sight the car emits a beep along with the red flashing car collision signal across the front panel then occasionally slams the brakes with so much force that myself(driver) and passengers are lunged forward. This has happened mostly during sunny days on multiple types of roads such as interstates and city streets regardless of turning or driving straight.

My car has been having issues since I hit 40k in 2022. Each time I took it in to Ontario Volkswagon for a diagnosis and repair they could find anything because the check engine light was not on. So they would tell me "based on milage this is the service we recommend" The dealer kept telling me its the gas your using bad gas but i only ever pump is mobil, or shell and always use 91. So by them saying that at every visit they knew what it was but failed to properly diagnose it. Fast forward to current date my car at 83k my car has stalled out several time going into limp mode on the fwy. It throws an error warning "MAX 4000 RPM" the cars check engine light turn on I am unable to accelerate and my speed starts to decelerate you can only imagine how scary this can be with your kids in the car

Received Max RPM 4,000 warning while on long drive. Happened and had to restart car several times. Lost ability to accelerate. Also, when car was on cruise, started shaking

On multiple occasions, subject vehicle displayed check engine light and epc light at random intervals, causing car to unexpectedly be limited to 4,000 RPM and unable to accelerate past 40mph. As a result, this put driver in extremely unsafe situations and endangered safety of passengers and fellow drivers, particularly on highway. First encountered at 34,000 miles on odometer. Persisted through 41,000 miles. Seconds before error is encountered, vehicle would run rough and undergo rough shifts. In addition, vehicle also suffered with sluggish acceleration from stop. I was travelling on highway, 55 miles speed , all of sudden voice came from engine and car lost power and came to 10 miles and accelerator was not working it gave me message on dash bord that RPM High. i moved the car towards edge of the road and shut it. after 5 minutes i started again and went to work. However its gave me same problem while i was coming home .my car has only 20000. miles and no other issue. its dangerous when car is moving with the flow of traffic and loose power and does not move.

My front assist function malfunctioned. I was driving at a speed of 50mph and the car came to an immediate stop. The seat belt restraints almost choked me, and the sudden stop jarred me. There was nothing in the front of me when this happened. I've been terrified every since it happened. It happened twice before, but this third time was the worst. The next morning I contacted vw, and took my car in. They test drove my car. I was told they didn't find anything wrong, and to come pick up my vehicle. I expressed to them that something definitely was wrong. I suggested them do more diagnostics, but they did not. I called corporate and nothing has been done. The 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan SE (4Motion) has approximately 75,000 miles on it. The rear driver-side brake lines failed, snapping in half, which resulted in a complete loss of brake fluid. Consequently, the vehicle was unable to stop unless the emergency brake was engaged.

1)My sunroof/window is leaking. This has caused internal damage. My car had 2-2.5 inches of water that has damaged by carpeting and pads the 60E5 was performed. ~72,500 miles 2018 Tiguan. 2) dealer service has advised of service:REPLACE SET OF (4) FUEL INJECTOR O-RINGS DUE TO FUEL LEAK AT FUEL RAIL-INCLUDE INTAKE MANIFOLD GAKET AND THROTTLE BODY GASKET.

I purchased my tiguan se 4motion in july 2018 and since I have owned the vehicle I have had issues with the acceleration and noise coming from the passenger side b pillar. The acceleration feels like a turbo lag from the start where the gas pedal is pressed but the vehicle hesitates to respond causing a small "stall". This happens in both drive and sport modes. When accelerating up-hill the vehicle has issues with finding the proper gear and constantly searches for a gear to settle on. The b pillar noise sounds like loud clicking when going over bumps and ruts in the road and even makes a noise when opening the door to its fullest.

While driving, no object or anything in the front, the car emits a beep, red flashing collision signal, and slams on the brake. The day is clear, sunny, and daytime. This happened multiple times. Two times, it almost felt like we hit a wall. It caused whiplash and my neck was stiff for a couple of days. This needs to be fixed asap.

One time the car Just Lost power on the freeway and the e-card engine light came on and the cat Ran rugh and stalled and jerked hard almost causing me to cause a serious accident...I took it to vw and explained the severity and they bypassed that And installed a new water pump..2months later the same thing happened exactly to where I was very lucky and very upset...and took it to them once again and explained more issues where I'm urging . Accelerator position and engine response on this vehicle is very inconsistent slow to respond from stationary position making the vehicle unpredictable and often unsafe. Depression of accelerator produces inconsistent results ofttimes the vehicle struggles to start moving, then other times from stationary, the vehicle lurches forwards with exact same type of accelerator input. These experiences are in all modes.

It takes a scary amount of time for the car to speed up when accelerating. The RPM module shows the acceleration but the vehicle doesn't actually speed up to match it. This is a safety issue especially when merging on to the freeway. An accident is bound to happen as I am not able to control the speed of the on coming cars and am unable to get my car up to speed to match the others. Also, the car randomly shuts down when stopped, a message saying please start engine manually pops up. This is also a safety concern and is bound to cause an accident as it happens a few times a month. When I first purchased my vehicle the epc came on multiple times and I had to take it back to the dealership. Fast forward last week when I was going home on the eway same issues car wouldn’t accelerate the car was idled at the speed of 40mph it wouldn’t go any faster for a few minutes then it took off out of no where. Also when I was taking my kids to school I was making a left turn and lost control of my vehicle because it was idled and took off out of no where. That’s not safe for me my kids or any passengers traveling with me. It’s also not safe for other drivers or pedestrians. Since november 2018 of this year the seat belt on the driver's side does not feel right it seems loose and the light illuminates red and comes on randomly and chimes. The seat belts looks and feels cheaply made. It has only gotten worse since the airbag module was replaced by dealership. Dealership says the looseness of the belt is normal.they claim when they drive it the red symbol never comes on or chimes. It is never picked up as a code on the vw car net or on their machine. What am I supposed to do? I want these seat belts to be replaced. It only comes on when the car is in motion and driving the car.the dealership says nothing is wrong. The car hesitates one to two seconds from a stop when the accelerator pedal is depressed quickly halfway or more as you would do to merge quickly into fast moving traffic. The problem can also be duplicated when moving slowly around 5 MPH. This problem has existed since the beginning but now seems to be getting worse. I consider this a safety issue since the car does not respond as expected/required under all conditions.

The exterior lighting "headlights" are a serious safety hazard considering they provide very poor visibility when driving at night or in rain. I barely missed hitting an object in the street that was less than 30 feet to the right and in front of me. I was driving less than 20 MPH. There is zero visibility when driving in rain at night. I would rate these headlights a 1 out of 10 when moving and a 3 out of 10 when stationary. I feel these headlights are so inferior that they pose a real danger to anyone driving a vw tiguan. The lack of visibility is so deficient in illumination that I am not going to drive this vehicle at night unless necessary. Too dangerous.
