2021 Jeep Compass owner complaints

On November 1, 2025, while backing my 2021 Jeep Compass out of the driveway, I noticed the rearview camera started 'jumping' and displaying colored lines. I pulled the vehicle in front of my home, and suddenly there was loud banging and the engine light started flashing. I immediately turned the vehicle off, and it would not start again. I contacted the Jeep dealership Monday morning, November 3, 2025 to advise the vehicle started making loud noises, engine light flashing, rearview camera not displaying properly. The Jeep was subsequently towed to the dealer. I was advised by service tech that there was a fluid leak in the trans pump area. I was also told the vehicle did not pass a battery check, and gave authorization to replace the main battery. The service tech advised the radio

Just driving down the highway at the speed limit the car will suddenly say over heating coolant level low and shut off for 1 second. Has done this 3 times in last few weeks. This was after I just had to replace the 2nd battery that controls all the extra functions on the car and a temperature sensor. The coolant level is fine

When it's hot outside and the car gets hot inside car it messed the radio up lines all over the radio can't see nothing radio plays, but you can't use backup camper are see the air set on this needs to be recalled so reson for it to stop working

The following message displays on my dashboard "Coolant Temperature High. Shutting Down" and the vehicle wants to shut down or sputters. Car shakes like it wants to turn off and then it starts to run like normal

When ESS is Engaged, car does not want to start from stop/engine off after pulling from a stop. Car then turns off Lane Departure and Blind Spot Warning and ESS says needs service. Battery has been replaced 2x by Jeep.

My vehicle information screen is not working. I cannot connect my phone; therefore cannot talk hands free. So this seems like a safety issue. I do not have access to my back up camera.

The touchscreen started flashing off and on and the dash lights also turn off and on. The lane assist and fuel warning pop up even when there is ample fuel. The blinkers do not respond when it is glitching and the high beam/ low beam light disappears on the dash. I have taken it to the dealer twice and they said their were multiple codes triggered in the touch screen/radio and they cleared the codes but it started doing this again a few days later. The 2nd time they downloaded an update to Uconnect system, I have reset the uconnect system back to default and remived all paired devices and even just turned off the entire radio but it continues to effect the dash lights and also effects the inside Temperature which gets stuck. The screen in most 2018-present jeep compasses are defective. My car just fell out of the warranty time frame and shortly after the screen failed resulting in no alerts via the back up camera. The camera helps alert you to things you can not see in your blind spots behind the vehicle resulting in a serious safety issue for pedestrians/ small children etc outside of the vehicle and also poses a threat to the driver. There were 0 warnings of failure in this component and I have read numerous hundreds of others describing the same issue. Expecting consumers to purchase this car with such failure rates is irresponsible and negligent. For a device that should have a life of 5-10 years failing after 3 is disappointing.

When stopped at a stop sign (on a slight incline, if that could be a factor), the Compass suddenly lost power. No reaction from pressing the gas pedal at all. In Drive or in Reverse. The Check Engine light came on and the temperature gauge went all the way up. Putting it in Park and restarting cleared the Check Engine light and the temperature gauge was right back to normal. Almost like nothing had happened. Thankfully it was a small intersection with no other traffic. But could this happen on the freeway?

Lane Assist and Front Collision Camera ceased functioning...yes available for inspection Lane assist and traffic collision camera went out while driving in the rain on the freeway. Traffic came to a quick stop and was able to stop without assistance by sliding off to shoulder, was able to miss the other cars but it sure was close. Took to dealer (leased Dec. 2021) with 3,100 miles on it. Told I would have to leave for 72 hours while they figured out what the issue is. (no rental provided). Have not taken in yet. Drives okay without the lane assist and front camera but you cannot rely on these components. Especially when needed. No one has inspected yet. Warning lights are still on dashboard. The warning message came on as the components quit working.

I been having a problem as I noticed it’s been seen multiple times with a jeep compass well mine is a 2021 jeep compass trail hawk. The car will shut off and say high coolant temp when that’s not the problem. The car is not hot and there is no problem with it just lose power and have no control over the car. It shuts off when I’m driving on the highway has left me stranded multiple times. Almost got hit turning on to the highway and it died as I was turning with a car head on. This is so unsafe. The car has been in the shop multiple times they replace stuff say it’s fixed it’s not and happens the minute I drive off. On Friday, November 5th I was driving my 2021 Jeep Compass when it suddenly stopped in the middle of the road and the message came on 'vehicle not in park' and 'key fib not found.' I pulled into a shopping complex and called the dealer Napleton Chrysler in Clermont, FL and was advised to call Chrysler Roadside Assistant. I called and a tow truck came and took the vehicle to the dealership. On 11/06 Greg serviced my vehicle and he said that the battery was faulty and he changed it and he also changed a part in the glove compartment. I asked him why should a 2021 vehicle has this problem and he said he did not know and he was sending the battery to Chrysler. I took possession on 11/06. VIN not existing. This vehicle is listed for $1 a dealer incentive of $29,...... I asked to purchase an make delivery. Is there any reason VIN not found. Is this a real car.?

When driving this car, the steering wheel sometimes pulls strongly to the left or the right, making it more difficult to control the direction of the vehicle. This is particularly problematic when on a freeway with narrow lanes and lots of traffic. Sometimes it simply pulls left or right for a brief moment. Other times, such as when going around a tight curve at a high speed, it pulls strongly for a protracted time. It didn't cause an accident. I was able to overcome the pulling forces exerted on the steering wheel by the car, but it made it much more difficult to keep close control of the vehicle location at high speeds. It is intermittent, but happens typically a few times an hour.

A noise, coming front the front end of my 2021 Jeep Compass is generated while is driving at low velocity (15 mph or slower). The noise intensity increases when the jeep is driven for over an hour. I took the jeep to dealer on Nov 3, 2021, with 701 miles to have it checked and repaired. At that moment, the service manager indicated me that the noise is coming from the rack and pinion and the manufacturer has indicated that this noise is normal, but they are consulting this with their engineers. See attached service invoice dated. Nov 3, 2021. On Nov-17, 2021 I went back to the dealer I was able to talk with the service manager and he informed me that their instruction is not to perform any repair until receive a final decision from the manufacturer. This was a rental vehicle. My concern is the emergency brake switch. It was accidentally activated by a passenger when they were trying to pickup a coin that had fallen where the switch is located while traveling at 40 mph. The emergency brake immediately engaged and an unsafe condition was encountered. Fortunately, an accident was avoided and we resumed our trip. My concern is a child or passenger can activate the switch in these vehicles where the switch is located in the center console resulting is an accident causing harm or injury. This switch needs a protective cover of some sort or disabled while the vehicle is in motion.

Was backing out of parking spot this morning and got error message saying “coolant temp high” and vehicle locked up. i shut off and turned back on and it was fine. checked everything out that needed to be. read online that this has happened to other people with the same vehicle. this is a safety risk and i do not feel safe driving on a highway. or in the snow this winter.

Turn on cruise control, press +, hold until the rental car begins to accelerate, and release. Car continues to accelerate. This is not the same as my 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid that accelerates only as long as the button is being depressed. The mileage of the rental vehicle is unknown. I DO NOT wish to receive safety recall alerts from NHTSA because the vehicle is a rental from Enterprise in Lake Park, FL.

The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at 75 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The driver was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway. The vehicle was able to restart after several attempts. The contact's daughter resumed driving; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was able to restart. The overheating warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to duplicate failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
