2022 Mazda CX-30 owner complaints

I am writing to report a serious safety issue with my vehicle, which resulted in a crash. While driving, I suddenly heard a loud sound, followed by an unexpected and uncontrollable shift of the steering wheel to the right. At the same time, the car unexpectedly accelerated, causing me to lose control and crash into a parked vehicle. The airbags deployed, and my car was totaled as a result of the collision. There were no obstructions on the road at the time of the incident, and the vehicle veered to the right without any prior warning. The car was purchased recently, with only approximately 3,000 miles on it and had been driven for just two months before this occurred. There were no warning signals or indications of any issues before the incident, and the car was in nearly new condition.

The steering wheel seems to prematurely wear on newer Mazda vehicles including my Mazda CX-30 from 2022. Mazda claims hand sanitizer to be the main culprit but I suspect quality issues and materials to play a factor. Many can be found with wear on the steering wheel even starting with less than 50 thousand miles. Some have received warranty claims while others are denied.

Low oil level message on cluster 1000 mile away from my oil change mileage indicated by the dealer.

The windshield is wavy. I don't know if it is the shape of the window, but very hard to see it of. Several owners have the same problem in online forums. Can't drive my vehicle long distances because I get extreme headaches, and visibility is decreased.

I travelled to Phoenix for a concert and after the concert I was driving back to my hotel room. I was traveling on the freeway and I heard a popping sound like a gunshot was hitting my window. I slowed down and ducked, thankfully no traffic surrounding me, only behind me. No vehicles were in front of me, as it was late at night, only two vehicles behind me and no overpasses. I pulled off the road, and found that my sunroof had exploded. It seems like the glass had blown from the inside shooting outward. It was very scary and thankfully no vehicles or heavy traffic as it would have caused an accident if there was. I've used cruise control for decades and use it even on city streets, so I can concentrate on the road rather than my speed. The concept of adaptive cruise control is great, but the execution is very flawed on my Mazda CX30. The system fails to recognize lane separation and turn lanes where lines do not exist. The result is the Mazda CX30 adaptive cruise frequently brakes to slow the car for vehicles not in the lane it is in. At some point this is going to result in a rear end accident, because of other vehicles not allowing proper distance and my Mazda CX30 slowing for no valid reason. I purchased a new 2022 Mazda CX-30 in early 2022. While driving home from out of state recently, a low oil warning light popped up on the dash. I immediately pulled over and checked the level to find only 2-3mm of coverage on the dipstick, well below the safe range. I topped the engine off with a full quart of oil. The vehicle only had 68xx miles on it when this happened.

Low oil light came on twice in first 6,000K. Had to use a quart of oil (total) to refill. Oil dipstick showed low oil both times. Engine is consuming oil with no obvious leaks noticeable on exterior components.

At around 26,528 miles my 2022 CX-30 2.5s (not the turbo) developed a "Low Oil Pressure" warning while driving between 55-65mph on 07/06/2025. The car has had regular oil and filter changes about every 5K miles. The last oil and filter change was at 25,259 mileage on 05/25/2025. There aren't any visible oil leaks. I have read that this is a common problem for other Mazda CX-30 years 2021- 2022.

"low oil" indicator came on after less than 5000 miles after oil change. Found oil to be 1 quart low. Scheduled oil changes are 10,000 miles apart, which suggests engine has defect which allows oil to be consumed within the engine. No signs of oil leakage.

There have been 3 different ongoing issues. The car was ordered and delivered brand new in April 2022. At 4,000 miles and again at 12,000 mile is would display low oil and require 1 quart of oil. The dealership acknowledged that it has an oil consumption issue, unresolved. I have to bring it in every time it is low prior to its required oil change time/miles. At 19,742 miles the cars battery died. They replaced it an have no reason why it died. Every time I'm driving in the mountain pass the transmission will not advance above 3rd gear. The engine will whine and I have to put it into manual and move it to 4th and or 5th gear. On April 15th, 2025, my 2022 Mazda CX-30 experienced a sudden malfunction while I was driving. Despite having the automatic emergency braking system and forward collision warning, the car failed to slow down or alert me before I hit another vehicle during a pile-up. Right after the collision, my dashboard lit up with multiple error messages about the forward collision system, brake system, and sensor malfunctions. I had the car towed to the dealership, where a full diagnostic scan was performed. It revealed multiple hard fault codes, including U0415 (Invalid Data Received from ABS Control Module), which I later found was listed in a recent Mazda recall (23V-487) affecting my exact safety system—but Mazda told me my VIN was not included. I took delivery of a 2022 Mazda CX-30 recently, and noticed that the windshield was very distorted. Moving my head caused the image to shift in unexpected ways. The windshield was noticeably wavy and caused double vision. The dealer replaced the windshield, but the replacement is also noticeably wavy, with an almost orange peel look through the new windshield. The new windshield also distorts the active driving display as well, which was not apparent on the original. When I complained about the replacement, the dealer's service manager said that what I am experiencing is "normal", and that "all CX-30s are this way", even though he previously admitted that he had never seen it before, and that the CX-50 he was driving did not have this issue at all. Rear wheel bearings failed at approximately 30,000 miles and were replaced by Mazda under warrantee. The same rear wheel bearings failed at approximately 72,000 miles and are available for inspection. Dealer has confirmed bad wheel bearings on both occasions. The potential for wheel bearing failure incudes loss of control of the vehicle while in motion. Dealer has bearing available for inspection. The only warning is increasing noise as the bearing wear.

On June 07, 2023, I was driving on the highway when I noticed a rumbling noise from the front driver-side tire (215/65R18). I got out and inspected the tires and observed nothing wrong with the tires. The next day (06/08) my wife was driving the vehicle on the highway (60 mph) and the vehicle started to shake. She pull the vehicle over and got out to check the vehicle. She observed the front driver-side tire sidewall was completely torn open. My wife never hit anything or ran over anything. The tire shop (Kost) could explain what happened to the tire. The shop person stated that it looked like a complete failure of the sidewall. The tire had approx. 9000 miles on it. In all my years of driving I never had a tire fail this bad.

There is a recall that doesn't include my car. In March before my service due date I got several critical notices on the dash) I-Activsense System malfunction, IActivsense advanced safey and driver support system not operating correctly, Have vehicle inspected. 2) Braking System Malfunction, Stop the vehicle in a safe place, 3)Safety and Driver Support Systems Partially Disabled 4) Vehicle Satus Monitor Serious Malfunction (1) Brake System Malfunction, Vehicle Warning Messages 1..IActivsense System Malfunction next service, which was in 4k miles. This with 19,700 miles on the car (bought with less then 5k on it). I pulled off the road and ate and got back in and all lights gone however 3/7, 3/18, 3/21, 3/22 it all came on again but was gone on arrival to dealership. I had brake fluid c

Passenger seat belt was stuck retracted and had to be replaced. Coolant temperature control valve failed and car ran cold. They have many cars with this issue but no recall was issued
