2023 Genesis GV70 owner complaints

Driving the car on 2 separate occasions in last 3 weeks when car suddenly stopped when driving and vehicle forward collision warning-braking light went on and car stopped in middle of the road and could not drive forward .The first time it lasted several minutes and then I was able to drive. Notified dealer and told it would be doubtful it could be duplicated and wash the car. The second occasion we were in the interstate highway when it suddenly stopped and forward vehicle collision warning-braking light came on.This was extremely dangerous situation being in middle lane of interstate and inching over to shoulder only with help from a car in right lane . I purchased this vehicle brand new in July 2023. By Jan 2024, it was already having major issues. The 2 major issues with this vehicle are 1) it had an engine misfire ( thus engine and fuel system issues) that cut the power to the vehicle and made it dangerous to drive and thus had to be in at the Genesis dealer service center 3 times (Jan, April and May 2024). The 2nd problem is electrical. On Oct 1st, 2024 the brake lights wouldn't turn off at all despite several troubleshooting attempts. That electrical problem drained the battery and after the car was jump started, after I started to drive, then the car cold died in the middle of the road. While driving on the expressway during rush-hour traffic, multiple warning lights illuminated on the dashboard and several error messages appeared. At the same time, the vehicle began repeatedly jerking while I was traveling at low speed in heavy traffic. I continued driving for approximately 10 seconds, but the jerking continued. Because of the unusual vehicle behavior and the warning messages, I pulled over to the side of the road. After stopping, I attempted to shift the transmission into Park, but the vehicle would not allow me to change the gear. My AC in my 2023 GV 70 stopped working. Apparently this is a known defect but I was never notified. Im currently in NC, 3 hours from my home in [XXX] where the heat index is 110 degrees. Now i have to drive home to get service without AC. I reached out to the dealer four times today including the service manager, service coordinator and Anthony the GM but no one has returned my call. I called Genesis customer service and their response was “sorry no appointments until late next week and we have no loaners until late September”. Clearly, no one at Genesis at the dealer level or corporate cares enough to help me solve this problem so I am forced to find an independent mechanic who can work on my vehicle and rent my own car until it’s repaired. Engine, transmission/propulsion and or fuel system is impacted. Vehicle loses power and pressing the throttle doesn’t increase the engine rpms and or vehicle speed. It happens randomly at both city and highway driving speeds. It’s almost like the gears aren’t shifting or the vehicle doesn’t increase the speed. Sometimes a it would work fine after a key cycle. I’ve had a few instances of it and there’s no check engine light. I took a video of it from last night when it happened. It’s a big safety risk trying to pass other cars. On the freeway when it happens the vehicle doesn’t cross 60mph hour. I am reporting a recurring issue with my 2023 Genesis GV70 2.5 Prestige. The vehicle consistently shudders and shakes when driving between 40-45 mph under normal conditions—whether accelerating, cruising, or maintaining speed on various roads. This noticeable shuddering affects ride smoothness and is concerning. I brought this problem to the Genesis maintenance department at my local dealership. They inspected the vehicle but claimed no issue was detected. Despite their assurances, the shuddering persists every time I drive within that speed range. No repairs were attempted; I was told the vehicle was operating as expected. Researching online, I found numerous other owners experiencing the same issue. Forums, including Reddit discussions, are filled with accounts from frustrated owners.

Transmission failure at 1558 miles. Replacement of transmission assembly is required. Dealership (Manly Genesis of Santa Rosa, CA) has the vehicle. No confirmation date of when parts and work will be completed.

I purchased the vehicle on March 30, 2023, & my Check engine light has been on eleven times since June 2023. I was involved in a car accident on August 25, 2023, where the car appeared to have no gas. However, gas was in the vehicle, and the brakes were not operating correctly as I had to continue pumping the brakes to stop the vehicle. Furthermore, there is over $15k in damages and counting. I have been placed off work due to the injuries sustained in the vehicle accident due to the negligence of the manufacturer & dealer. Several times now, my Genesis GV70 will make a strange sound on startup. The auto stop light will illuminate and I can't turn it off. The car will have no power to accelerate. I have to turn the car off and back on again for the problem to resolve.

On 3 occasions while driving under 30 mph with no proximate vehicles my car suddenly began to intermittently brake and the dash flashed "collision warning". In two of them, I was able to pull over and turn off the car and restart--the problem did not repeat. In the third instance I kept driving (bucking along at 10 mph) and after about 50 yards the warning went away. The dealer ran a scan and cannot find an issue. They tell me they have to see it while it happens. The car may be at the dealer for months as they will be driving it to see if they can replicate the issue.

On two separate occasions over a 6 month span the emergency braking system engaged while entering an underground parking garage. There were no vehicles in front or behind. The vehicle immediately engaged the brakes forced the vehicle to stop. Fortunately there were no injuries. I have opened a case with the manufacturer. I have read on blogs that others have experienced similar ghost braking issues. In their case the manufacturer and service technician claimed since nothing was recorded by the vehicle, there was nothing to be done. It is unacceptable for there to be no record of the emergency braking system engaging. Out is a core life safety protection. This issue should be investigated by the NHTSA to force the company to reevaluate the safety of their products.

The car loses power and stalls at cruising speed. Stalls on red lights. Dealership changing fuel pump. its risky i was almost hit twice as the car stalled

INCIDENT: Saturday, October 8, 2022 @ 5PM Sawyer Rd. and Red Arrow Highway, Sawyer, MI Driver: Peter LovelandMileage: 1,540 •Loss of power, unable to accelerate while turning north (right) on Red Arrow Highway from a full-stop on Sawyer Rd. •Electric motor noise; whirling or clicking sound •Right Turn Blinker, Lane Keep Assist (LKA) and Lane Follow Assist (LFA) active •Traveling less than 10mph, able to pull to side of road. Placed car in Park and then back to drive again. Unable to accelerate above an estimated 10mph. •Pressed Genesis Connected Services button and agent recommended restarting engine. •Engine restarted; placed in Reverse first for a short distance and then placed into Drive. •Able to accelerate to road speed of 55mph and returned home.

I had noticed my GV70 had not been functioning correctly for about 3 weeks prior to scheduled maintenance due. The vehicle has become slow and sluggish accelerating. Was concerning as I had pulled out in traffic not expecting limited acceleration. NO check engine or warning signs displayed. I traveled from Midland, TX to Genesis of Grapevine for scheduled maintenance to be performed. Later that day was informed that my radiator had been crack. Due to road debris and my extended warranty would not cover it most likely. Of course road damage would have had caused this as my expensive vehicle has never been off road. After researching Genesis Forum I have learned that this is a structural defect that has been corrected on later models. So Genesis has obviously taken corrective measures

Vehicle turn off suddenly driving in the middle of the highway putting at risk the life of my family I never have an issue like this i. My previous owe vehicles

Experienced acceleration problem with my brand new Genesis GV70, only 7 mos. old. I backed car out of garage and onto my street, put car in "drive" and pressed down on gas to move forward, but car would not accelerate. This was only for a split second, and then it started to accelerate. It was strange, though, and had never happened before. I continued on my route and as I was entering an onramp to get on freeway, car would not accelerate again. Car maintained 20mph speed but would not go any faster as I pushed down on the gas peddle. I was able to pull off to side of the ramp. I turned engine off and restarted car, tried to move forward again, but again would not accelerate. Turned car off again, restarted, and this time, I was able to accelerate. Very scary to think of this happ

The adaptive cruise control started pacing off vehicles in the right lane instead straight ahead. Then the vehicle's forward collision emergency brake system started engaging with no vehicles infront causing the vehicle to panic stop on its own for no reason. This panic stop could cause an accident, personal injury or death.

Airbags did not deploy, vehicle was declared a total loss.

The contact owns a 2023 Genesis GV70. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled inadvertently. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer, where it was diagnosed that the high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP) had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred while driving 2 hours later. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 9,092.

The headlight assemblies, both headlights, (headlamp housing) failed due to structural factory stress fracturing. The polycarbonate outer lens has developed clean, horizontal hairline cracks originating directly from the sealed lower edge where the housing meets the internal bumper brackets. This structural failure has breached the factory seal, causing severe water pooling inside the light assembly. Yes, the vehicle and the failing component are available for inspection upon request. The severe water accumulation inside the headlamp assembly poses an immediate night-driving safety hazard. Moisture intrusion directly exposes critical electrical connections and LED components to pooling water, risking a sudden, catastrophic short-circuit and total headlight failure while driving at night.
