I have a vw jetta 2005 that has the 2.5 engine. For the last three months, the automatic transmission has started shifting gears by itself in hard shifts, mostly from 1st to 2nd at odd times. I was told this was a known problem in the vws and required a transmission rebuild. (I've heard that a number of time). I had to have the transmission rebuilt at a cost of $4,000 to end the problem. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 Volkswagen jetta. While driving 45 MPH the bolts from the driveshaft on the passenger side were loose. The engine was on but the vehicle would not move. The vehicle was towed to his residence. The manufacturer was called and informed him that there were no recalls and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 75,000.
I wrote to you about a month ago about recalling the 2005 jetta. Nothing came out of it. It is my firm belief that there is something wrong with the transmission. Google the problems with the 2005 jetta and you will see tons about complaints regarding their transmission woes. Please be objective in your investigation. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 Volkswagen jetta. While driving 50 MPH, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 93,000.
We have a 2005.5 vw jetta and have been experiencing hard shifting while driving for about a year and half . More recently the gears are stalling to shift we were driving in a local street when our car would not shift into 4th gear the engine would rev but would not shift. It is very unsafe for this to happen when you are on busy roads or merging on to highways etc. We have not used our car since and our mechanic told us it was u safe to drive. I can't believe vw has not taken ownership for there mistake and make a recall. Our car just passed 100,000k and should not be having this problem . To fix the problem we were told its the valve body and the part itself is $1,200 not including labor cost.
There is a long running issue with the 2005 1/2 vw jetta v transmission valve body that is a safety issue with the transmission. When the trans gets hot sitting in traffic. The transmission slips in and out of gear or shifts very hard or will not shift at all and may cause a rear end accident as the jetta does not shift. Vw america does know of the problem and issued a extended warranty to 100,000 miles or 7 years. But after doing extensive research there are jetta's that are out there that have mileage over the 100,000 miles. When you call vw, they refuse to help and do not care about the safety of the people that own their product. There is also issues with premature brake light bulbs and head light bulbs burning out. *tr
We asked our dealership to acquire it for us after our 2004 tdi was totaled. Current vehicle is a certified pre-owned we purchased april 25, 2006 with 10583 miles on it. Previous owner was Volkswagen of america. On july 2, 2006 while on vacation the clutch completely failed after driving several miles in bumper to bumper traffic it started smoking and then the pedal went to the floor and the clutch locked up. The vehicle then had about 14-15,000 miles on it. A maine dealer determined that the hydraulic cylinder had failed and the entire clutch failed. Took more than two weeks to repair the vehicle. When the vehicle was serviced by our virginia dealer it was reported to us that the transmission was cracked due to improper re-installation. Vehicle then had 17632 miles on it. It took an
We have a 2005 jetta tdi automatic. This car was bought new and has been serviced at every interval by vw. We have had a common concern about the car moving forward in drive in erratic fashion when cold after about 6 months. We informed vw about this concern and they said nothing was wrong. Last week my wife was backing out of the driveway and the car stalled in the middle of the road. We tried everything to get it started but it would not turn over. We had it towed to our vw dealer who informed us that it would cost $600.00 just to make a determination as to what the cause was. We gave them the go ahead and a day latter they informed us that the dual mass flywheel has disintegrated which in turn destroyed the transmission. This dmf appears to be a common problem with vw's in general. In e

My fuel pump failed with no warning, leaving my wife stranded in winter. This happened with no warning whatsoever - the car was running perfectly, and then stalled. This is a common problem on this model car. *tr

The left rear passenger door will not open. Despite using the unlock buttons on key, the drivers door, and the passenger door, the door latch will not engage. Each time one of the mentioned unlock buttons is pushed, you can hear the electronic mechanism sound like it is unlocking the door, but the latch still does not engage in order to open the door. I have not contacted the dealer yet, but felt this should be reported here due to the danger of this issue in case of a crash / fire in which it could prevent a quick exit of the passenger. *jb
engine 1 complaint shown
Over the past 3 weeks the check engine light has cycled on/off. Took the vehicle into the dealership today and they concluded that my timing chain needs to be replaced at a cost of $3700(parts&labor). I have had the car for 9 years and have approx 65000 miles on it. I have had oil changes every 5000 miles as well as all recommend factory maintenance. Since my car is no longer under warranty and Volkswagen of america states that the timing chain should be replaced every 10 years/100,000 miles they refused to help with covering any cost of the repairs. Upon searching the internet it has become clear that this is a known issue with the 05/06 Volkswagen engines yet they refuse to admit it. Timing chains should not be failing at 65000 miles and Volkswagen of america needs to take responsibilit

body 1 complaint shown
For clarification, my car is a mark 5 2005.5 new jetta, not a mark 4 2005 jetta. When you shut the trunk, it seems to close completely. It stays in the closed position and cannot be pulled open. However, once you drive off, the trunk may open suddenly and you cannot see anything behind yourself because the trunk hood obstruct your rear window. This has happened a couple of times to me, and many other jetta owners can be seen saying that they have the same problem on online forums. Sometimes, the trunk cannot be closed at all. You can stand there and shut the trunk over and over again, and it will not latch. *tr
brakes 1 complaint shown
Rear brakes on 2005 vw jetta - metal on metal after 19k and 38k miles. Told by vw that it is due to a smaller brake pad on the rear. Fear that a smaller brake pedal wears faster and is thus a safety issue. *tr
