I was driving home around 9 pm. It was about 40 degrees outside and the rear defroster was on. My two kids were in the back seat and my husband was in the passenger seat. The rear window of my 2006 Ford escape just shattered. We pulled over to see if someone had thrown something at the car, but there was nobody around except a father and his young children. He hadn't seen anything but said he heard the window break as we drove by. There was glass on the inside and outside of the car. I am thankful that my kids were not hurt, but I am shocked that something like this could happen. I looked this up online and have found many other complaints of this same thing happening to other people. *tr

I drove my car from my home, to work that morning. It was a little chilly so I turned on my rear defrost so I could see out the back window. I drove my normal commute, about 7 minutes to work, parked my car, and went inside. Within 20 minutes I heard a loud bang, and noticed that my back window was blown out and exploded all over the parking lot. I had to call my insurance and file a claim to have the window replaced. *tr

Car was parked in our carport overnight (12/24-25, 2015). When I came out the rear window was shattered. Most of the glass was outside the car, perhaps 5 percent was inside. No fallen branches, no sign of foul play, none of our other cars were damaged in any way. I looked up and found that similar incidents of "random rear window explosion" had been reported on Ford escapes, and that there was an active NHTSA investigation happening, so I wanted to add our incident to the list.

2006 Ford escape xlt - like many others, my rear window shattered for no reason. Had glass/rear wiper replaced but was then blowing fuses. So now have to have the rear wiper motor replaced on top of the glass. I have read several complaints of same issue but still no recall. *tr

When attempting to press down on accelerator, it sticks/hangs and will not press down. Has done this repeatedly; most noticeably when the weather is cold. *tr

I reported the same problem 13 days ago, but have had another acceleration problem again today. Again, vehicle would not decelerate when the gas pedal was released. Instead, car continued pulling at same speed and then began speeding up. I was on an exit ramp when the problem occurred. Luckily, I was able to use the brakes to fight against the pull of the car while maneuvering through traffic to avoid wrecking. Had to use brakes constantly until I could get the car to a lot to turn off the vehicle. When in park, motor was racing at 4000 RPM's. Turned off the car and tried three times to restart. Each time vehicle raced to 4000 rpms. This is exactly what happened on 12/15/2010 as reported here previously. *tr

The accelerator on my 2006 Ford escape has been sticking on numerous occasions. It feels like it locks in position and I cannot depress it. The first incident happened when I backed out of a parking spot. It worked fine in reverse, but when I switched gears it would not go forward. When I finally got it to work, I traveled about twenty five feet and then it locked up again. You never know when the accelerator is going to stick. This can prove to be very dangerous my son called the dealership regarding the problem, but they said my car is no longer under warranty. It appears to be an expensive fix, and I've read about many, many people who are suffering with the same defects. It seems it's been an ongoing thing since 2001. My husband is currently experiencing the same accelerator problems

While driving, a warning light came on stating " safely pull over and stop now", the vehicle stalled out, no power at all. I pulled over and after a few minutes restart it. Everything sounded fine. I talk to a Ford dealer whom seem not to know what caused it. I have an engine code p1a0c (etb), from my actron@ device. I started to have it fixed but I went online and found I'm not the only person with issue and the solutions giving by the dealer's service have been all different I'm not sure if any of them fixed the issue. Some have stated that their vehicle stalled out while on the highway. I'm not sure if it is safe to drive on the highway. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 Ford escape. While driving no more than 50 MPH, an explosion was heard. The driver pulled the vehicle over and noticed flames. Another driver pulled over and helped her extinguish the fire with snow. The vehicle was towed to a repair shop and then later towed to the dealer from where it was purchased. The dealer stated that the motor was faulty, which caused the explosion due to the piston being blown out of place. A police report was filed. The vehicle is still at the shop and has not been repaired. The contact believes that the manufacturer should issue a recall because the defect should not occur in a two year old vehicle. There were no injuries. The current and failure mileages were 59,000.

On my home from the grocery store driving approximately 55 to 60 MPH in our 2006 Ford escape 4 cyl SUV. The vehicle made a loud pop and then caught on fire. Freaked out I pulled off in a driveway. We poured soda pop from 2 litres on the fire to extinguish the flame. The mesh pipe before the last catalytic converter was glowing red. I have read many stories of people with the same problem on all years of Ford escape. It is in my opinion the rear converter stopped up causing this damage to our once lovely ride.now I am not even sure if it will run. The heat from things like this causes major stress on internal engine parts as the exhaust has no where to go. Then when the engine explodes as it should fire starts. We are now out of a ride until we can pay an extreme amount for this defective s

The right wheel well of my 2006 Ford escape (limited) is completely rusted out. I can no longer drive this vehicle because the shock is about to break through the interior of the vehicle. The rust has caused exhaust to pour into the vehicle. Before knowing about this, I took my vehicle to several different mechaincs because I could smell exhaust. They couldn't find anything. A canadian auto body person (I love on the border) told me that it was coming from the holes in the right wheel well and showed me the large hole where exhaust is leaking in. This is a serious safety issue that all escape owners (2006 at least) need to be made aware of!!! I can't take and attach photos at this time due to the weather but can provide them another time, upon request. I should note that I live in northern

I was driving about 35 MPH when the red "brake" word appeared, and the red "service brake system" message came on. Brakes seemed fine, so I continued driving about 3 miles. Stopped at a store. When I came out about 30 minutes later and started the car those light messages did not come on, so I drove toward home about 3 miles away. As I was about 3 blocks from home I drove over a recessed manhole cover in the street and the red brake word, the "service brake system" message came on again when I hit that bump, and also a white "ABS" word. The brakes immediately felt like they were going out as I slowed down to turn a corner ahead. I didn't accelerate any more because the brakes felt unresponsive, so I coasted the rest of the way through the turn and tried to pull over and stop in a space whe

While driving on the highway, brake and ABS warning lights came on dash and brakes failed. Could only get minor stopping power when brakes depressed all the way to the floor. Managed to stop without crash. When car was turned off and restarted, the lights were off and the brakes functioned okay. Dealer claimed they could find no evidence of a problem because the restart of the car cleared the error log. Exact problem reappeared 2 weeks later. Brake and ABS light came on dash, brakes would not stop vehicle except very minor braking power when depressed all the way to the floor. This time, drove car to nearby dealer without turning off and demanded that they drive it to witness problem. Again, they insisted there was no problem until they actually drove the vehicle. Car shuts off with little or no warning, 3 times now, once on interstate 64. Dealer first said hybrid battery bad, 2nd opinion from hybrid battery company said battery good. Dealer said, 2nd time with car, need a $600 repair that will resolve. Now, dealer says no, the battery is still the issue. They still cannot state why the car does it, what will make this car safe to drive and if they truly know it is the battery, why did they do the $600 repair and tell us that would fix the problem. I have asked wynne Ford in hampton va, the dealer, for a poc at Ford motor company to be able to get answers on how to make/know our12 yr old car is safe to drive, been over a month, but have recieved no information from wynne Ford. On several occasions after getting off the highway onto an exit ramp my vehicle has died with no check engine lights, it also shuts down when making a hard turn at slower speeds. I have had issues with the accelerator sticking when it is cold outside (several times having to manually shut off engine and coast to a stop in snow). I have currently started experiencing a #3 misfire and am currently waiting for parts to come. I have already replaced all spark plugs and number 3 ignition coil. I am waiting for other 3 coils to come in. If still shooting will try replacing seals. It also was "burning" oil then started to have an actual oil leak from main seal. I do the repairs myself and apparently these are known issues. I complained to Ford about the sticky accelerator and got no reply. It a

This has happened 3 times now, 2 in southern california on the freeway at night. Hybrid vehicle has recall problems which makes vehicle stop running. Had it fixed, paid out of my own pocket in southern california and thought problem was fixed. Something to do with battery. Then on friday, dec. 12, it happened again as I was driving home from college, the vehicle stopped suddenly. I couldn't pull over, it won't restart even after many attempts. I waited 5 to 25 minutes, vehicle would not start. Finally had to call a tow truck to closest Ford dealer. I thought dealer could fix problem after having it all day but when I left and headed on highway, my hybrid vehicle stalled again on the highway. I have ptsd from this car, I never want to get in it. I don't trust it and after 3 different Ford d
