2007 Kia Sorento owner complaints

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 Kia sorento. When the passenger is in the passenger side front seat, the air bag light remains illuminated and the system indicates that the air bag is off. The dealer reprogrammed the air bag sensor; however, the failure was not corrected. The vehicle is currently at the dealer and they will replace the bottom of the passenger seat. The contact was given a 2008 sorento as a loaner vehicle and it has the same failure. The manufacturer stated that the law required them to install a new air bag system for children. They are having problems with the program and have received numerous complaints. The current mileage was 5,000 and failure mileage was 1,000. The contact stated that the passenger air bag occupancy classification system could not determine when the passenger seat was occupied and would erroneously deactivate the air bag. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed but the failure was unable to be replicated. On november 17, 2007 I purchased a Kia sorento SUV. Since that date, the passenger seat airbag is disabled all of the time when my wife is sitting in the passenger seat. Other adults who weigh more will allow the light to go out, but never for my wife. I returned the car to the dealer for service who informed me that there is nothing that they can do. I contacted Kia customer service and they indicated that a regional warranty rep will look at in january, but if he sits in the seat and the light goes out, there is nothing that they will do. My wife is an average adult who weighs enough that the airbag disabling feature should turn off when she sits in the seat. *tr

I bought a new 2007 Kia sorento on 11-1-07 from banner Kia in mandeville, la. With my wife in the passenger seat (125 lbs.) the air bag light remains illuminated indicating that the air bag in inoperable. The vehicle was returned to the dealer and the technicians supposedly fixed the problem. Enroute home the light came on again. The dealer then supposedly recalibrated a sensor and the light stayed out. Now my daughter who weighs 117 lbs will not put the light out to put the air bag in service. Have you had similar complaints on Kia vehicles? I am beginning to think that the dealership technicians are not capable in making my vehicle safe. Any suggestions? *tr

When driving vehicle the passengers airbag remains in the off position when my wife is seated as a passenger, but when I ride as passenger the air bag is on. (some time it works and others it does not). *tr

Passenger side airbag off light illuminates even when a grown adult is sitting in the seat. The owners manual states, and the service dept at the dealership agree that if a 150 lb adult is in the passenger seat and the off light is illuminated, the airbags will not deploy. The adult can be sitting straight up in the seat with feet in the floor in front of them and the off light is on. The service manager said they cannot fix this, it is a problem. The corp. Office should issue a recall because obviously the sensors are not properly located. What good is the airbag if it won't deploy when needed? *tr

With or without passengers in vehicle, passenger side air bag does not come on.

The dealer stated that the ocs "occupancy classification system" malfunctioned. The dealer replaced the seats and sensors; however, the failure still occurred. The failure mileage was 20 and current mileage was 5,600.

When opening doors, the dome light no longer would turn on. This eventually continued until the front lights no longer turn on, and now the rear hatch lights do not turn on either. The lights work when they are manually turned on, just not when the doors open. It was checked by a repair shop and they say it is not a switch issue (as the lights on three of the doors still light when open). They feel it is an electrical issue and found hundreds of posts from as far back as 2003 sorentos with the same issues. The lights not turning on is a huge safety issue for myself and my family trying to enter a pitch black vehicle at night time. *tr

I own a 2007 Kia sorento. Recently, my check engine and ESC off lights became illuminated on my dashboard. I noticed that my brake lights were not illuminating when I pressed the brake pedal. After looking up my car make and model on the NHTSA website, I noticed there was a recall for my model year sorento for the exact same problems (NHTSA campaign number 13v114000/Kia service campaign sc098). I took the carto my local Kia dealership and they told me I was not eligible for the recall as my VIN was not included. As such, I have to drive around without functional brake lamps until I get this problem resolved--increasing my chances of being rear-ended. I travel constantly for work so I do not have the luxury of not driving. This needs to be investigated and resolved.

Service brake hydraulic switches brake light, exterior lighting brake light switch, air bag frontal sensor/control module. No brake light when brake is press, cruise ontrol, ESC light, air bag and gear shift will not move from park.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 Kia sorento. While driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled and several warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the alternator failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic where it was confirmed that the alternator failed again and would need to be replaced. The vehicle was once again repaired, but the failure persisted approximately a month later. The contact stated that the alternator was replaced a total of eight times since april of 2016. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000. . ..updated 12/12/

Takata recall: vehicle is unstable when driving, it jumps when on motion. When driving in the night the head lights goes on and off, rear wiper is working non stop even when the car is off. This electric system dysfunction also affects the radio system.

2007 Kia sorento. Consumer writes in regard to defective ABS system.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 Kia sorento. The contact stated that the brake lights failed to illuminate when the brakes were depressed. As a result, another vehicle crashed into the rear of the contact's vehicle due to not knowing that the contact was applying the brakes. The contact sustained injuries to the back and a police report was not filed. After the crash, the contact received notification that the vehicle was included in the recall associated with NHTSA campaign number: 13v114000 (exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure and current mileage was 170,000.

I am an owner of a 07 Kia sorento ex. A few months ago I noticed the "ESC off" light would illuminate at random instances and would not turn off until the vehicle's engine was turned off and then restarted again. This issue is of concern to myself as well as other Kia owners I have come across. Reason being, when the "ESC off" light engages and stays on, the vehicle loses power while driving. I have had two separate occasions where this has happened on the freeway. While changing lanes and trying to accelerate, I was stuck at a speed of 50mph with traffic behind me at 65mph or faster. Assuming that I was going to accelerate the vehicles behind me had to slam on their brakes instead. When I took my Kia to the dealer to diagnose the problem I was informed that I am not the first customer

The doors were locked by using the button on the driver side of our Kia Sorento. This is performed each time the car is traveling on the road. When the car was parked, the automatic unlock for all the doors worked for both front seat passengers but not the two rear doors. The inside handles for opening the doors on both of the rear passenger doors did not open. Attempting to prior the lock mechanism on both rear doors did not work either thus I was trapped in the back seat of the vehicle. I had to crawl out of the truck of the vehicle to exit. In my opinion, this poses a serious safety concern not only with this Kia but with other ones as well. What interesting about this incident is that mechanics, at Kia or other places have no idea how to solve the problem.

I have a two wheel drive 2007 Kia sorento. When I drive between 35 and 50 MPH the car begins to jerk, sometimes violently. I have taken it twice to the dealer to have it looked at. The dealer has contacted Kia engineers who say that the jerking is within acceptable parameters and nothing will be done to fix the problem. They have described the problem as being called a fish bite. The invoice for service states that "this is normal tcc lock up at lower speeds low RPM in lockup." *tr

This 2007 Kia sorento has a driveline vibration since purchased on 1/31/07. The vibration starts at 65 MPH and goes away at 73 MPH. Brought it back to the dealer and they balanced the tires but the vibration is still there. *tr
