Occasionally, the driver's side automatic sliding door will close before it should. This has happened approximately 20 times in the last nine months (four times on 12/28/08). It has closed on my son, my mother, my granddaughter, my wife, and me. There is no pattern for when this will happen, so when we take it to the dealer for repair, they can not duplicate the problem. Therefore, they have not been able to correct the problem. *tr

2007 Toyota sienna. Consumer writes regarding spare tire recall *tgw the consumer stated his wife took the vehicle to the dealer for the recall. However, when she brought the vehicle home, he noticed the spare tire had been placed in the rear part of the vehicle and secured with a strap. So, when the rear seat was placed in the stored position, the spare tire would be placed on top of the stored seats. The consumer stated the dealer never mentioned the condition of the carrier and never mentioned the tire would be placed in the rear of the vehicle. The consumer stated they completely altered the functionality of the vehicle without his consent and it also created a significant safety issue, which meant the tire was not properly secured in the cab of the vehicle. When the consumer called t
In approximately the summer of 2012 (I do not recall the exact date),Toyota recalled the spare tire suspension cable, but did not have a repair at the time. I was inconvenienced for months with the spare tire in the back of my van. The repair was eventually completed, however, a recall for the repair was issued in the summer of 2014. The spare tire was removed and again placed in the back of my van. Toyota is now stating that there will be no repair available until the summer of 2015. This is completely unacceptable and not understandable. It is simply an attachment for the spare tire. An official complaint has been filed with Toyota, as well. I need the space where the spare tire currently has to be, however, I do not feel safe without it in my vehicle. *tr
The automatic closure on the rear sliding door does not close and lock the door in place. The sensor beeps but allows you to drive even though the door is not shut all the way and latched.
Rear lift gate fails after opening and closes on your head. No safety sensor and continues to crush you if you get stuck under it.
Both sliding side doors fail to click to stay in open position. Happens often even on flat surfaces. *tr
The rear hatch rubber door handle melted due to heat during the summer. I had to cover the door handle with plastic in order to open the rear hatch. During cold weather, the rear hatch cannot be opened due to the melting door handle. I have taken the vehicle to the dealer where the dealer advised that the door handle needed to be replaced at a pretty high cost. The vehicle was not repaired. I have read numerous complaints online regarding the melting door handle for the year make and model vehicle. *tr

The airbag light comes on and stays on when the vehicle is turned on. If the vehicle is turned off then back on, sometimes the light turns off. Other times, moving the connectors under the front seats causes it to turn off. *tr

The 2007 sienna van in question is one of many plagued by an array of door latch problems of many different varieties that were not covered under a very poorly executed so called 'recall' on this van. The whole design was poor from the start, and the consumer is getting taken to the bank by the dealers and the company. When they want a $1000 to fix one door that they know if faulty that's simply greed for one, and there are usually two doors at fault. Then if you do get them repaired, many times the fix doesn't last very long before your back again. They just had another recall for their 2011 and newer van doors, they still haven't fixed them yet. They might not open, then they might open without warning, then they might not open at all. Both of my doors have the same issue, and I've read
The rear hatch opener is made of some rubber composition that has melted away and will at times not even open rear hatch. Numerous online incidents reflect similar description of melted rubber that leaves fingers coated in hazardous material when attempting to open rear hatch. *tr

Back on august 7, my vehicle was brought to balise Toyota because of a check engine light. They replaced all 6 spark plugs and iginition coils 1 & 6. On october 24, the check engine light came back on and I brought it back to balise Toyota. They saw misfire codes. The cleared the codes and couldn't duplicate it, so nothing was fixed. On december 7, the check engine light came on again. This time, dissatisfied with balise, I brought it to colonial auto. Again, dan murray, the owner of colonial auto found misfire codes and faulty ignition coils for numbers 2 - 5. This resulted in a total charge of $961. I contacted Toyota, because I am unsatisfied with the relability of the sienna and the lack of care on balise Toyota's follow through. They should have caught this back in august, but now my

steering 1 complaint shown
The steering wheel makes a ticking or clunking sound as it is turned back and forth or when a bump affects one of the front tires which naturally moves the steering wheel one way or the other. There also seems to be excessive "slop" in the steering wheel movement. Dealer has looked at it and said it is a faulty "intermediate steering shaft" and it needs to be replaced. This is a known Toyota issue with other models (2004-2011?). There are two u-joints on the intermediate shaft. One or both of them is wearing out, causing the sound and excessive play. This is a design issue affecting the steering wheel of a motor vehicle. I thought I should record this complaint.
