After driving for about 20 minutes in 77f, sunny, dry conditions, I'd come off the freeway and stopped for about 15 seconds at a light to make a left turn. When I started making the left, someone blew through the red light to turn right coming from the opposite direction right in front of me. I let off the throttle but the throttle did not release. I was going about 15-20mph with the engine around 2,000rpm in, most likely, third gear. Since I was at low speed, I promptly tried gently tipping in the throttle to see if I could close but it did not so I immediately put the transmission in neutral. The motor revved up to about 4,000rpm which is a natural idle for this motor if the transmission is in gear and the motor is under load at 2,000rpm. After seeing it rev up, I put it back in drive an

Front seatbelt stuck in the retracted position and therefore the seatbelt cannot be used. The vehicle was parked when the defect was discovered.

09/12/2007 ODI #10202813.0

Passenger restraint system failed to allow the belt to be pulled from the retractor far enough for the clip to secure in the latch. Intermittent problem began with the front passenger restraint after 1 month of use, 'locking up' at a different length with each attempt. Attempts are always made with the car at a complete stop. Problem has increased in frequency and severity over time. After 2 months of use the problem is constant, often taking over 15 attempts to extend the belt fully. On one occasion, the belt wasn't allowed to extend from the retractor any distance at all. Driver and rear passenger retractors have begun to show same problems.

Nothing we know of caused this failure except folding the rear seat down in the cargo position. When we raised the seat up the seat belt wouldn't release. Now we don't have a seat we can use and no operating seatbelt. I tried to get the roll to release then took it to a dealer who refused to warranty it since I tried to unjam it. *tr

While traveling on the highway with 3 family members and our dog in the car this last weekend, there was suddenly a loud bang (sounded like something had hit the car). The road was smooth and weather was good. I pulled over immediately and could see nothing. Cautiously driving the rest of the way home (approx. 15 miles) the car seemed to handle normally although there was a new thudding noise when rolling over small road bumps. My wife took the car to a mechanic yesterday who put it up on a lift and discovered that the right rear coil spring had broken. He advised that this is a serious safety hazard, that we were lucky that a tire wasn't punctured or control lost while driving, and that the car should not be driven until the spring is replaced. This car is used in typical suburban fam

The driver airbag has been under recall per letter dated 12/14/21, NHTSA RECALL #21V-800 We scheduled initial repair with dealer upon receipt of notice last December, however, this has not been accomplished and as of 9/23/22 as we are continually told the part needed remains on backorder. We had contacted Volvo directly on 3/31/22 and they stated the dealer would have to order the part. The "incident" or complaint filed here is due to the inability of being able to have this recalled part replaced in over 9 months and belief that manufacturer is delaying required replacement part due to the age of the vehicle.

On interstate highway the engine suddenly lost power without warning. A "reduced engine performance" light was lit on the dash. I was able to get off the interstate highway and stop on the berm. I turned off the engine and restarted. The warning light was still on but it had enough power to get me home (30 miles). This is a very serious problem. The warning light is still on and I am afraid to use the wagon.

When driving through puddles of water, slush or snow, the exhaust may cool down fast enough to change shape and touch the propeller shaft, causing a high pitched squealing noise. This noise will be noticed by the driver for only a short time; once the exhaust temperature equalizes the noise will disappear. This creates a high-pitched, siren like noise, which can scare the driver causing his/her to swerve or lose control of the vehicle. The is a design defect recognized by Volvo with repair kit available pn# 30742265. As this is a design defect and a serious safety issue, this should be recalled by Volvo and not a $250.00 repair by the customer. *tr

Serious engine speed surging. Jumps to over 8000 RPM. Happens when stopping on octane, not always. I could have got killed while backing into my driveway on a hill. I have seen this at least 4 times and will not drive it. I informed my insurer. At dealer now, they say they have never heard of this and cannot duplicate. Lots of info on web from others who have same problem. It seems to be a throttle control issue and class action suit has been done on years just up to 2016. Volvo have extended warranty for the throttle module and ECM. I asked the dealer to research on this and if they cannot duplicate than replace the likely suspect and software as well as contact Volvo for help. If this is a known issue, Volvo needs get info out as someone is going to get hurt or die due to this known defe

When reversing out of our garage first thing in the morning, brakes were nearly inoperative and required an additional 10-15 feet of stopping distance. Unable to depress the brake (hard brake). I almost ran into a tree and hit my dog. Dealer diagnosed as a faulty brake vacuum pump switch and brake vacuum. Scariest thing I have ever had happen. Luckily, no one was hurt as we were in a large driveway and my husband was able to get the dog out of the way. Thank goodness we had the extra space. If this had been in a parking lot, I would have hit another car or hit a person without question. There was a recall for earlier model volvos (s40 & v40) and should be for any Volvo vehicles with the same switch/brake vacuum before someone is injured severely or worse, killed. Volvo is founded
