I have a 2009 Chevy traverse, bought brand new. When backing out and turning out of my driveway, my steering was beyond stiff. I had to use excessive force to turn and there was a loud clunking noise when I did. This steering problem occurred at lower speeds up to about 20 MPH or so. It occurred whether I was turning right or left, moving forward or backwards. When turning left and/or right, (not from a stop sign) I had to pull the wheel very hard to keep from going into the oncoming lane. Assuming the problem was a lack of steering fluid, I went to a les schwab to have it checked and filled, but that wasn't the problem. The next day I took it to a shop and the mechanic believes the problem to be the power steering sensor?? The car is there now so I don't know the results yet. Prior to
During 15mph turn power steering failed and it was extremely difficult to manage the turn. I narrowly avoided hitting another vehicle which was waiting to enter the intersection. Took vehicle to dealer on 11/5/13 who replaced the water pump because the coolant leaking on belt caused the belt to slip, which is turn caused the power steering to fail. 12/27/13 brought car back to dealer because initial steering problem was occurring again. This time we were told steering rack and pinion is leaking fluid and we were advised to replace this. *tr

I've been reading numerous complaints about the steering problem with the 2009 Chevy traverse and I don't understand why gm has yet to issue a recall on the steering issues. There have been times when I try to turn either left or right where the steering starts to stiffen up making it difficult to turn. Or if I'm pulling out of a parking space, trying to turn is an issue. This is a serious fatality waiting to happen. Are they going to wait until the lawsuits start coming in before they do something?
Steering was making a whining sound when turning the wheel. This happened within 3 months of purchase of the vehicle. Since it was under warranty, Chevy "fixed" the problem. 2 years later after the "fix" the steering is again making the whining sound when turning the wheel. The vehicle is no longer under warranty. We haven't yet had Chevy look at the problem again, but judging by the other complaints in the NHTSA database, we will likely have to shell out over $1000 to get this problem fixed again. *tr

In addition, the warning indicators for the air bags, service engine, and low beam headlights shorted several times. The contact smelled a burning odor near the front of the vehicle several times. The vehicle was repaired several times by the dealer, but the failure recurred. While driving at an unknown speed, a deer crossed the vehicle's path and crashed into the front of the vehicle. The 2009 Chevy traverse, while my wife and son were driving at night, both headlights stopped working at the same time. Brought vehicle to dealer, due to design- unable to replace bulb yourself, dealer- drivers village replaced both bulbs. On 11/17/14 the left headlight bulb stopped working. Took to jack mcnerney Chevy and replaced bulb. Two days later left bulb stopped working again, took back to dealer and replaced free of charge. On 12/4/14 the right headlight stopped working and took vehicle to drivers village and they replaced the bulb. There is an obvious defect/ design flaw in the head lamp system of this vehicle. $300.00 dollars spent to replace headlamps. Please look into this problem, I see a lot of complaints. Thank you. *tr

1st. My wife was pulling out of a parking spot and had to stop quickly, then when she proceeded to leave again by letting off the brake - the car rolled forward on a slight incline and hit the car parked next to her. When she removed her foot to the gas - nothing she could do to prevent this incident. 2nd. While in the drive position on a hill at a stop sign or traffic signal, I removed my foot from the brake. The vehicle began to roll back almost hitting the vehicle behind me. We further tested the vehicle on various hills/inclines both in drive and reverse and it continued to roll in the opposite direction of the engaged gear. Apparently, this is a characteristic of the automatic transmission on this vehicle, the service consultant at courtesy Chevrolet of orlando, said this is a flaw
My wife was driving home when the check engine light came on vehicle lost power and stalled and would not restart, vehical was towed to dealer who stated cathlitic converter had failed and would be replaced. Following replacement dealer stated engine backfired during test drive investigation revealed engine failure and had to be replaced luckly insurance covered this repair, following engine repair car was started but still backfired investigation revealed ignition coil was defective.. Reshearch by me on the internet showed problems with ignition coil causing engine and cathlitic converter problem, this problem could be a major safety concern if driving at interstate speeds then this problem occures. *tr

Since I bought my car, I've had problems with acceleration and deceleration be very erratic. It seems to shift down and up at the wrong times. It's very inconsistent as I travel the same route each day to work, I never know what it's going to do. Sometimes it lurches ahead and the RPM's are all over the place, and downshifts when it really shouldn't. I've taken it in for repair, they put the latest computer chip in it, which maybe helped a little. Still for the most part it's the worst car I've ever driven-as a passenger it feels like the driver is either using the accelerator or brake way too often, when in fact, the driver is just trying to provide a smooth acceleration or braking, but the car has a mind of it's own. *tr
