2009 Dodge Avenger owner complaints

The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign numbers: 08v528000 (power train) and 09v047000 (fuel system, other). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 114,000.

I have a 2009 Dodge avenger purchased in 2012. Yesterday I was in a scary situation and could have seriously hurt a child done the Dodge. Yesterday morning the car was driving fine I parked, took the key out of the ignition, and started to get out of the car. The car started rolling back I jumped in the car hit the brake, brakes did not work had to pull the emergency brake to stop. At the time there was a child riding by on a bike thank god the emergency brake worked. I pulled the emergency brake just in time. Trust me that was really scary too me because out of all the cars I have had this has never happened to me. After I got the car to stop I tried to start the car it would not start. Vehicle in motion most on highway and sometimes city streets. Sometimes the car will bog down usually between 40--65 MPH when accelerating and also while not. Took to dealership they keyed it (test) and said manifold sensor or sensor about $1500.00 repair. Got this fixed and car still doing it. This has been going on for at least 5 years that I know of. I don't drive vehicle all the time but when it gets drove it happens. The last time this happened was 2 weeks ago. Its was going on at about 50000 miles

When I refuel my 2009 avenger the fuel comes back out the filler tube. I can't even set the lock on the pump to the first click or it will burst gas out and splatters the car and myself. Looks like the 2008's had the problem also. *tr

While driving a 2009 Dodge avenger from national car rental (~11,000 miles on the vehicle) at 70 MPH on a florida toll way, the airbags deployed. There was no collision or contact with anything (animal, road debris, etc.), the road was flat and straight, and there were no circumstances or events that would have caused the airbags to deploy. I was talking on a cell phone using a bluetooth headset at the time and had just moved my blackberry, crossing the steering wheel when the airbags deployed. The force of the passenger side bag deploying severely cracked the windshield. The car was driven to national car rental's return at orlando airport. *tr

Air bags blew up when parrell parking bumped a car in front of me at 1 mile per hour and boom.

It began with the air bag light going on and off as well as the air bag sound. It became more frequent and occurred mostly when taking a left hand turn. Concerned that the air bags might deploy, I pulled the fuse. When turning the steering wheel, there is a spring noise behind the steering wheel that pings in either direction.

I was driving down the highway and getting back to speed and heard a bang. Didn't hit anything and the driver's and passenger side airbags deployed. I was not injured and injured no-one else. My windshield on the passenger side was severly cracked. Now I'm between a rock and hard place, my insurance says that it may not be covered since I didn't collide with anyone, and I'm over my 36000 miles by 260 miles. Please if you have a Dodge avenger do not ignore the airbag warning light, I could've killed numerous people that day and by some higher power did not. *tr

The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis and the contact was informed that due to movement of the engine, the main plastic wiring harness was found to be melted. The dealer also advised that if they had not discovered the failure, it would have caused several other components to fail. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified. Thermostat has cracked causing the vehicle to over heat and leak anti freeze. The vehicle has been repaired three times for the same problem 2012,2013and 2014. *tr

I bought the car used at franklin sussex Dodge in franklin,nj with 70000 miles and two days after I noticed these problems. I lose control at highway speeds when hitting bumps or on turns.the rear of car sways and feels like a rocking boat and I hold on for dear life.I have had it aligned and it uses up new tires at 20000 miles in rear on inside.there needs to be a recall before someone gets killed to correct rear suspension. *js

Going home from work, approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes from my job, and traveling at approximately 40-42 MPH my engine just stopped....no sounds, no warning lights, nothing. Just tried to up my speed to go up a very small incline, and nothing...headlights still worked, no power steering, no brakes.......managed to pull over.........shaking like a leaf on a tree, because I am 65 years old, alone, no family to call, no one.....and this was a little after 9pm at night on nov 2nd. Called my mobile mechanic the next day and he gave me this info to file a complaint. He said this is very serious. I was on buford hwy <four lane road> speed limit 45 MPH going straight and approaching a red light on a very small incline.

Notice RPM / MPH would rev-up ...did not think much of it till I notice, having to apply brake s harder when coming to a stop becuase the car was still acceraling while I was appling pressure to brake. Notice when taking off from a complete stop or partial stop, car would stumble (RPM would drop to zero --just as to stall). Check eng. Light came on took car directly to service repair shop -code p2017(intake runner valuve error)-replace intak mainfold- (488445aj). Less then 4 hours of pick up, same problem but worst. Back to auto service center they found nothing (no codes ,no errors, no warning lights). Took 2009 avenger to a dealship-told them - driving issues I was having & no warning lights. My check engine light came on p2004. I then took it to a shop and was advised it was the electronic throttle control. They have been getting many customers taking their cars in for the same problem. Was advised to take it to Dodge because there should be a recall. The shop did not even charge me for the diagnostic. The car is not drivable. I stalled and was almost hit at a light. I called Dodge and it is going to be $105 for a diagnostic and once they find out what needs to be done they will give me a price. The information from the other shop told me to start looking online. There are thousands of forums with thousands of complaints. Dodge closes at 4pm on saturday and they cannot look at my car today. In the meantime, I am left stranded. If a recall should be made, please make it soon.

We purchased a 2009 Dodge avenger in april or may of last year and immediately had trouble with thumping when using brakes. Took to delearship and was told no problem found with brakes. The vehicle was taken to the dealership where the contact was informed that the front rotors needed to be replaced. There were no prior warnings and the vehicle had not been repaired. The current and failure mileages were 5546.

The tire blew out the sidewall while driving down the highway at 70 MPH. First noticed a vibration, but before the vehicle could be pulled of the highway, the entire inside if the sidewall separated. The TPMS warning came on just as the tire exploded, but gave no earlier indication that there was a loss of pressure in the tire prior to the failure. The tire this complaint relates to is not listed in the tire selection options. It was a hankook optimo h727. Size 215/60r17. *tr
