While waiting at a light in my 2010 Ford flex the engine was idling rough, after the signal turned green the power seemed low and sluggish as I accelerated. When I was at about 45 MPH the engine power returned and seemed more normal, suddenly without notice the engine turned off and all dash lights illuminated. I was able to pull into a drive way but was very hard as there was no power steering. I was able to coast to a stop safely. Once stopped there was a very strong smell of coolant. I opened the hood and found a large amount of coolant on right side of engine. My car was towed to my home to figure out what the issue could be. On further inspection it is suspected that the water pump failed which is internal to the timing chain cover and therefore dumped a large amount of coolant into t

Engine stalls out, while driving the car around town. Has occurred twice, separated by a few weeks. No warning, or engine trouble or indicator lights prior or after the event. Occurs while driving a low to moderate speed both times, about 30 MPH. Car can be restarted immediately after and drives fine. Have had mechanics check fuel and air sensors and lines and find no obvious defects. Other Ford flex owners report similar problem since 2009. Rumor is that replacing the throttle body corrects the issue.

Power steering went out. Towed to Ford dealer. They replaced the steering gear assembly ($2,145.00). Two hundred miles later the same thing happened again. Towed to the same Ford dealer, after two days they tell me the tire pressure was low. I don't believe it but will drive some more. When these incidents occurred we were driving on state highways at 40 MPH +/- pulled over and stopped and lower speeds the vehicle was impossible to steer. Vehicle mileage 72997 and we are original owner. *js
The power steering system failed in my 2010 Ford flex with less than 80,000 miles. Thankfully the failure did not occur while we were driving. We had the car towed to our mechanic who said that the entire steering rack needed to be replaced. The part is $1600 and labor is over $500. There is an active recall of the 2011-2013 Ford flex model years for the exact same problem. I called Ford and told them I believed there was a safety related defect in the 2010 Ford flex that is the same as the problem in the 2011 my that caused the recall. The representative said that because there was not an active bulletin for the 2010 my, Ford would do nothing to fix the problem. Obviously this is the same problem that is present in later model years. Ford's refusal to recall and fix this problem is

Accelerated from drive making sharp right turn onto busy state route road. Power steering abruptly failed while accelerating with front wheels turned sharply to passenger side. Steering was impossible to move back to center position in spite of pulling with all my might (muscular build). Applied brakes sharply; vehicle exited road and impacted curb with front tires..wife, and two small children present in vehicle and traffic at speed on road. Once static; steering wheel locked in position; completely unable to budge wheel with vehicle static. Conducted research; identified Ford recall for model years 2011 and above with identical problem. Informed Ford designed flawed and unsafe steering rack in hundreds of thousands of vehicles; but my 2010 flex is not covered under recall. Repair require

The car's fuel gauge will suddenly drop to empty and the car will run out of fuel. By doing some research this is a very common problem with Ford flex and it is very dangerous. This has happened multiple times and the most recent was this weekend when my wife was driving on the interstate and it died in traffic. Very dangerous
Gas tank will not fill properly, when called dealer, was told there are "probably spiders in the gas tank, they get into the filter and build webs and cause this problem, will cost you $275.00 for us to check, not covered by warranty, this happens often with the capless gas tanks". *tr

Was pulling into gas station today and breaking at pump when car suddenly accelerated. I applied break hard, tires spun until I shifted into neutral. I then shifted into park and turned off vehicle. Rpms had shot up, did not look down but could hear engine revving. Would have hit someone if I had not been at the gas pump. Will take vehicle to dealer asap for inspection. This s the third time this has occurred in last 2 weeks. *tr
2010 Ford flex. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle sudden acceleration. *smd the consumer stated about two weeks ago, while stopped at a red light, the vehicle suddenly lurched forward. He was able to brake the vehicle, so it traveled only about 5 to 10 feet. Last week, the same scenario occurred again. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. A diagnosis revealed there was a problem with the electronics, and the accelerator unit was replaced.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 Ford flex. While driving 25 MPH the contact crashed head on into another vehicle after the other vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign. The air bag warning light remained illuminated prior to the crash. The air bags failed to deploy. The police advised the contact that due to the impact the air bags should have deployed. The fire department had to force the door open in order to remove the contact from the vehicle. The contact advised the dealer that the air bag light was illuminated and the dealer stated that was a sign that the air bag was not functioning; however, the air bag light was also illuminated when the vehicle was purchased. The contact advised the police and the dealer that she thought the air bag light was suppose to remain on to indicate that it w

Original owner 2010 Ford flex, ecoboost engine: sudden loss of engine power with shuddering and stall in fast lane; up hill while passing at speed, 60mph to 20mph in seconds causing near collision from behind. Engine would not recover, 20mph in fast lane with semi's and speeding traffic, no pull-off area. Clear dry day, temperature around 55 degree. Not the first time engine shuddering experienced, but the most dangerous. Always occurs during acceleration (pulling out in traffic or passing, etc.). Began to notice loss of power, whining and grinding noises from turbos about two weeks ago; subsequent catastrophic failure of both turbo chargers with billowing black smoke and oil dripping from exhausts. 38k miles, garage kept, all service points maintained, driven like grandmother since new.
