2011 Mercury Mariner owner complaints

Was on a very busy four-lane road driving approximately 55 miles per hour; it was dark and raining. The car suddenly slowed to almost no movement, but the engine was running. Was able to drift into a lowe's parking lot safely off the highway. The engine light and a wrench symbol appeared; I cut the engine off and waited about 10 minutes and restarted. Vehicle got me to the hotel where I was staying about a 1/2 mile away. Next morning, I had someone follow me so that I could attempt to get it to the Ford dealer in princeton, west virginia. Car stalled on 5 occasions; restarted it, go a mile or so and had to restart again. My wife was driving the 2011 mercury mariner on the interstate at 60 MPH when the wrench light (throttle control/powertrain) came on and the car speed dropped rapidly to about 20 MPH. Fortunately she was able to pull the mariner over to the side of the interstate and came to a stop and shut the engine off. When she restarted the mariner the light went away and power to the mariner was restored. This is has happened to the mariner twice. *tr

I was driving on the interstate at about 65mph. Vehicle became unresponsive to the gas pedal input. Check engine (yellow wrench) light came on. I had to cross over to the right side of the road, while coasting with the engine at idle. Came to a stop and that's when I realized that the car was at idle and would not respond to the gas pedal. They said it has no stored codes, but it would need the throttle body replaced, but it was not covered under the 5/60k powertrain warranty. On the morning of september 10, 2013, after about a 30 minute commute to my place of work, I pulled into my work driveway, and my 2011 mercury mariner stalled. The engine seemed to cut off, the wrench light came on, and my vehicle rolled into the parking spot. Unsure of what had happened with my vehicle (as it had never happened before), I immediately called my local Ford dealership service department. The service manager was extremely helpful and told me it sounded like a throttle body problem, as his service department has replaced a number of these on both the Ford escapes and mercury mariners. Wrench light on mercury mariner 2011 with slow (20-40mph max) and rough ride home. Yesterday while leaving work, I turned right out of the parking lot onto the main road. Vehicle was exiting a parking lot, stopped in the right turn lane. Pressed accelerator to pull out of parking lot and vehicle began jolting violently back and forth and barely moving forward - but did move into the oncoming traffic lane. Eventually vehicle was unable to move and engine stopped. Had to push vehicle to side of road to restart. Driving at 40 MPH car stalls, pull over, car starts up engine lite on, (sat) take to dealer on mon (12/15/2014), explain to dealer, they call 3 hours later to say "purge valve needs to be replaced"ok this should be covered right? She says no! The cost to you will be $320.33. I told her this is part of the emissions, it has to be, she said no its not! Power steering assist will go out without warning causing the car to lose it's power steering and may even lock up totally.this has happened repeatedly since june of 2017 and has gotten progressively worse. We had to repair it in december of 2017 at a cost of $1500.00.

The vehicle was then taken to bright bay Lincoln, inc. (1174 sunrise hwy, bay shore, ny 11706) and newins bay shore Ford (219 w main st, bay shore, ny 11706) where the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v284000 (steering). I was driving my vehicle at a low rate of speed on a city street on 10/16/15 and as I turned a corner, about to pull into a driveway, there was a complete loss of power steering ! The vehicle was very difficult to control and it took all my strength in both arms to complete the turn and pull into the driveway safely. The vehicle was towed to crest Ford dealership in flat rock, mi and the diagnostic code they detected indicates they need to replace the entire steering column and is supposed to be covered under Ford's recall 14s05. Dave in their service department took what he described as "the first step" by sending an email to request that this repair service be performed under the recall. It was denied by Ford because a different code, also covered by this recall, was addressed by liberty

After closing the rear door, the rear window exploded with extreme force, sending glass fragments to the far edges of the garage. There was nothing in the car to hit the window and the garage door was closed. Fortunately I was not standing behind the car or I may have been seriously injured. I find many occurrences of this for the Ford escape which I understand is the sister car to the mariner. Even though mercury will no longer be made, the escape will continue to be made. I believe the window design to be defective and needs to be investigated.

Front lower sub frame rust through in aria under a/c , close to point of braking . Seams to be a comin problem as my repair shop said they replace three or four a year . Some have broken while on road causing steering problems .this apparently happens when the vehicles are about ten years old .# found on inspection .

The contact was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway, after which the vehicle stalled. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle briefly returned to normal functionality, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the throttle body. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related it to Customer Satisfaction Program 13N03, but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 116,000.

She pulled into a patients driveway and stopped she went to put it in park and the car just took off into the house. She (the driver) had to be taken to the er. She had her foot on the brake still when the car took off. I have pictures of how the right front tire was dragged through the dirt while brake was applied. It damaged the home and did over 5000.00 damage to the car. She insists it accelerated unexpectedly. *jb
