2012 Chevrolet Traverse owner complaints

On 24 dec 2014 at around 11:45am, I was pulling off a main road (with my young daughter) into the parking lot of my doctor's business, when my steering wheel locked completely while I was still in motion. After braking, I was able to jiggle the steering wheel free and pulled the car into a parking space. I contacted my dealership immediately to report the incident. As it was christmas eve, they were closing within minutes and I was told to bring in the car on friday, dec 26th..which I did. After an assessment was completed and the service department "could not duplicate customer's complaint of loss of power steering", I was told there was nothing else they could do for me until the problem happened again and with more regularity. Power steering is hard to turn after driving. Go to pull in a parking spot and the steering is hard.in motion while turning into parking space almost ran into parked car. *tr

Power steering does not work at low speeds 90% of the time, my wife can't drive the car ( very dangerous situation ). Parking has no power steering at all, at 10 MPH steering control comes back.

This car has a very common problem with the steering. The steering rack is leaking which will lead to an inability to steer the car effectively. Chevrolet has an special service #14329 that covers this for a number of model years including 2012 but for some reason the VIN for my car was not included but it exhibits the identical problem. I need gm to expand it's special service to include all cars that exhibit the problem. There are multiple examples here that illustrate the extremely dangerous aspects of this failure.

I was driving at about 50mph the check traction control lights came on the check stabilitrack came on then it said traction control on then off my vehicle lost power and I couldnt steer. Luckily no cars were coming on the dark winding road I was on as I was stuck no lights or anything.

Receiving 'service stabilitrak' 'service traction control' 'traction control off' messages

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet traverse. While driving various speeds, the vehicle lost power. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and restarted. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and the faulty sensors were replaced; however, the failure recurred and the headlights stopped working. The contact had to drive with the high beams activated. The manufacturer did not offer any assistance, except to refer the contact back to the dealer and NHTSA. The failure was not remedied. The failure mileage was 82,000. The VIN was not provided.

My wife was driving on the highway when it lost significant power and started rattling violently. She was able to pull into a business parking lot. Stabilitrak system, traction control, check engine lights all came on. After sitting for about 10 minutes, it started back up with less violent shaking but still with reduced power, she was able to 'limp' to the pellegrino dealership in williamstown, nj. It had fault codes p0300 and p0303 for random engine misfire and cylinder 3 misfire. They diagnosed as "minimally needing cylinder #3 fuel injector plus additional diagnostics afterwards to determine full extent of issue" first threshold would be $1500 and possibly several thousand possibly including an engine replacement. Tl* the contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet traverse. While driving approximately 55 MPH, the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the timing chain was stretched and needed to be replaced. Additionally, the contact stated that there was an abnormal noise coming from the engine while attempting to start the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 107,000. The VIN was not available.

Vehicle is registered in montana, one of the states listed in recall #12v151000, re: windshield wipers becoming inoperable in cold weather. Check shows my vehicle is not subject to this recall, but my problem matches it exactly. Conditions, -12deg and light snow. Vehicle has been idling about 10 min with defroster on. I brushed off windshield and cleared come ice that had collected on the wiper blades and at the base of the wiper arms. When I got in the vehicle and turned on the wipers, the arms would not move. I purchased the vehicle used 6 months ago, so I don't know if this has happened before. I believe the only prior owner was also in montana.

The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the motor that moved the windshield wipers needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA campaign number: 12v151000 (visibility); however, the vehicle was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 94,000.

This incident occurred twice. Driving down the freeway at freeway speeds, a loud clunk was heard, the vehicle jerked, check engine light appeared, check stabilitrax and traction control messages appeared and stabilitrax disabled, speedometer remained frozen at speed this incident occurred. While driving to safe location to stop, vehicle appeared to be stuck in a specific gear that is lower than normal for freeway driving, rpms were much higher than normal. When attempting to accelerate from a standstill, vehicle appears to have no power (probably due to accelerating from 0 MPH in a higher gear). I took vehicle to bowman Chevrolet service center for attention and they were unable to duplicate the incident though they did state that they see error codes in the system for loss of communicat

The car stuttered while driving in reverse and first gear. She backed out of a parking space and the vehicle started shuttering immediately. She then put it in drive and it started shuttering violently and was only able to drive at 10 miles per hour. Even at that speed it was still shuttering. Brought it to the dealership and the quoted that the clutch plates and valves needed to be replaced at a cost of $4400. This issue could become a serious problem and cause an accident or worse if those plates decide to go bad while at any speed.

Car lost engine power while driving over 60mph on the expressway. *js

The tail gate lift assist no longer works, to lift it I'm lifting the whole weight of the tailgate. It won't stay open, so I have to hold it up while trying to put something in the back. There is a recall on this for the traverse, but my VIN does not appear to be included.

The first time I was in a restaurant drive thru but sitting idle. Then several codes flashed on my dash about traction control and stabilitrak and limp mode and it started to stink. We towed it to our mechanic and he could not tell what code was causing the issue so he cleared the codes and it ran fine after that. After a couple additional trips to the mechanic, we did have a couple issues seemingly related and he ended up replacing a coil and all the spark plugs. Now, a few months later, my wife was driving up the road to our house and just before turning into our driveway, the same error messages came up on the dash. She turned off the car and called me.
