While driving locally on a city street, heard a low whining sound, followed by the dashboard battery warning light being illuminated. Sound increased and decreased with vehicle speed. Drove immediately home, less than a mile, parked the vehicle, opened the hood and isolated the location of the whining sound to the alternator area. At this time I could also smell a burning odor (being an electrician).I put a meter to the battery terminals and recorded a voltage of 11.5,indicating that the alternator had failed. There were no visible signs of smoke that I could see as the time was about 9pm. But the smell of an electrical issue was clearly present.

My power door locks stopped working. I made an appointment to have it repaired and the day I was going to drive my jgc to the dealer, all hell broke loose. Park assist stopped working, anti skid and 4 wheel drive also indicated errors. But worse, I could not move the shifting arm out of park. I had to have it dragged out of my garage by a local towing service. The dealer said it was a faulty tipm and had to be replaced. Once it is replaced, they can check on the power door lock issue. I've read the this is a pretty common problem for the 2012 jgc. In fact, it must be because the dealer said that he probably wouldn't be able to get a replacement part for at least a month. If this had happened on a recent trip to nyc, my family would have been stuck god knows where.

I did not have an actual incident with the vehicle - my complaint is about the lack of action for certain recalls. I received a recall notice on august 22, 2014 stating that the brake booster on my vehicle may prematurely corrode and ingest water. If the water freezes, the driver may have to apply force which may slow the driver's brake reaction time and cause a crash without warning. Quite a frightening scenario. I called my Jeep service center and they told me that the repair part for this recall is on backorder due to a parts shortage. I was asked to be put on a list and they would call me when the part arrives. I called the service center on december 18, 2014 (4 months later). I was told that I am number 124 on the waiting list and that they were only at number 40. I was told tha

Vehicle was in motion when I noticed smoke coming out of the passenger vanity mirror area. I immediately pulled over, turned the car off, and called 911. The responding firemen had to cut a hole in the roofliner of the automobile in order to determine the location of the start of the fire, which they confirmed was the wiring to the visor. The direct cause of the fire was confirmed by service employees at the dealership the car was brought to, as well as investigative engineers for Chrysler, as faulty wiring to the visor lighting on the passenger side of the vehicle. The cause of this incident is directly related to NHTSA campaign #14v391000, Chrysler recall #p36. A recall for the visor wiring was issued, and repairs were made at the dealership. The fire in the vanity area of the a

Yesterday my Jeep engine turned off twice while driving on city roads. This happened in the morning on my way to work and at night on my way home from dinner. Luckily this happened on city roads either before getting on the highway or after getting off the highway, as I take the highway daily for work. Conincidentslly both instances happened while attempting to turn right. I did not hear the engine turn off while driving, but noticed because as I was attempting to turn there was no power steering. The radio, dash and interior lights never flickered or turned off when the ingine stalled. Again, luckily I was not at a high speed when this happened and put on my hazards and was able to slowly come to a stop with the brakes but they were very slow to react. I put the car back in park and start

The transmission shifts strangely, and it seems like it cannot decide which gear it needs to be in for normal operations. It also causes the vehicle to stall while driving. Also, at times it stays in only one gear, and you cannot even shift gears manually. Intermittently, the vehicle starts out in a higher gear, and it doesn’t correct itself, so acceleration is way below what it needs to be. I have been fortunate to avoid a few crashes due to the stalling.

While making a right turn (wide right, not sharp right) the engine "stalled" and all steering capability was lost. The car attempted to "straighten out". It took a great deal of strength to keep the wheel from turning back to center. And I was not able to turn the wheel further to the right. Fortunately no traffic at that location so I was able to "guide" (not steer) the car to the side of the road. I put "stalled" in quotes because this was more like a "lockup" than a stall. The engine abruptly stopped. All electrical systems were still on. No warning lights on dashboard. Radio continued playing. Heater fan was still running. Power brakes were still functioning. Fyi: this is the regular hemi engine. Re-starting the car was odd too. It didn't "crank". Upon pressing the start button, th
