Kia Motors America (Kia) is recalling certain 2011-2017 Optima, 2012-2017 Sorento and 2011-2018 Sportage vehicles that previously received an engine replacement under recall number 17V-224, warranty, or the Knock Sensor Detection System (KSDS) Product Improvement Campaign
A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire.
Fix: Kia has notified owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the fuel pipe, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began January 17, 2019. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC172.

TSB: SPECIAL SERVICE INFORMATION & SPECIFICATIONS FOR GDI HIGH PRESSURE FUEL SYSTEM - This bulletin has been revised to include additional information. This bulletin provides information relating to all Kia vehicles equipped with Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engines. In these engines highly pressurized gasoline is injected via a common fuel rail and injectors that deliver fuel directly into the combustion chamber of each cylinder. In comparison, in a conventional Multi-Point Fuel Injection (MPI) engine, the gasoline is injected into the intake port of each cylinder at a relatively low pressure. Due to high fuel pressure in a GDI system, servicing the GDI system requires special attention
PITSTOP: XM 2.4L GDI MIL ON WITH DTC ? P0269 - On some 2012-2015MY Sorento (XM) equipped with 2.4L GDI engines, the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) may illuminate with the ECM system-related DTC P0269. To correct this concern, replace the fuel injector in cylinder number three (3) by referring to the Service Information on KGIS.
PIT STOP: GDI INJECTOR SPRAY TIP DEPOSITS - A design feature of vehicles equipped with a Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) system is the placement of each fuel injector directly into the engine cylinder head assembly. Therefore, it is completely normal for the combustion process to create deposits on the injector spray tip surfaces.
TSB: SORENTO FUEL FILLER DOOR OPERATION UPGRADE - This bulletin provides information related to some Sorento (XMa) vehicles, produced from October 15, 2009 to September 29, 2011, which may exhibit a hard to open fuel filler door.
KIA: A MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP (MIL) ILLUMINATES WITH ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE (ECM) SYSTEM AND TO CORRECT CONCERN, HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP, FUEL DELIVERY PIPE AND MOUNTING BOLTS WOULD BE REPLACED, IF NECESSARY. MODEL 2011-2014 OPTIMA, SPORTAGE, SORENTO, CADENZA.
