The failure pattern owners describe

Owners of the 2014 CTS are dealing with a cluster of electrical failures across different systems. The CUE infotainment screen is the most frequently cited problem—it freezes without warning, responds erratically to touch inputs, and in one case developed a spider-web crack pattern overnight while the car sat parked, progressively spreading until the backup camera and GPS became unreadable on the left side.

The ignition switch causes intermittent starting failures that dealers have trouble reproducing. One owner experienced complete engine stall at 30 mph on the highway, leading to a crash into a curb and injuries requiring medical attention. Starters are failing prematurely; one owner had two starters replaced within 17,500 miles, the second dying after just 1,000 miles.

Windshield wipers and instrument panels have also failed early, with repairs that recur. Backup cameras fail to activate in Reverse or display correctly when CUE screen damage occurs. Dealers have informed owners these CUE and electrical issues are well known, yet the manufacturer has typically offered no recall, no diagnosis, or no repair assistance—leaving owners stranded or unsafe on the road.
