2016 Honda Civic owner complaints

Our civic's steering became very 'sticky' around 6 months ago and the problem develops at speed. The steering gets jerky and momentarily gets locked in a position that we need to fight against. We had a service scheduled at Honda and asked them to inspect the issue and they are not able to diagnose the problem correctly. They are deflecting and are suggesting it could be caused by us running over something that could have damaged the steering setup. There is no alignment issue and the car has only been driven 16k miles in 4.5 years (it's our second car).

Steering wheel sticks while attempting to drive straight causing the car to either drive to the right or left. This happens while driving for approximately 30 minutes or so and especially has an effect on the vehicle at higher speeds. Multiple forums and over 60+ complaints on this and no recall yet?

There is a jerky/sticky issue with the steering while driving. The steering wheel seems to get stuck and I end up almost over correcting to get it to unstick. I’ve read multiple complaints of this issue and my car’s year is 2016 purchased in October 2025.

When the adaptive cruise control (acc) and the vehicle lane keeping assist system (lkas) are engaged simultaneously, the vehicle will react unpredictably under certain conditions. The vehicle may brake suddenly, rapidly decelerate, and quickly depart the highway when approaching exit ramps. The situation occurs during daylight and nighttime hours with clean cameras and radar window. Driver response time is too slow to counteract the event. The vehicle may slow by 10-15 MPH and depart the highway before the driver is able to resume control. During 300 miles of highway driving, the vehicle did this twice. A rear end collision was narrowly avoided in one case.

Steering wheel has some extra resistance (sticking, stiff and jerky) when making small corrections at any speeds, resulting in extra pressure being applied to break the resistance, resulting in sharp (hard) correction changes. When make small steering adjustments it has resistance, then suddenly becomes easy. This can cause oversteering when correcting.

Steering at 40 plus MPH gets stiff making it difficult to stay in lane

I was driving straight down I-20, the only car close to me was behind me and in the other lane. There were no overpasses or potholes. There was a loud noise like a car backfire or gunshot, and I thought I must have blown a tire. I pulled over to the side of the road and discovered my moonroof had shattered - luckily the shield had been closed. Honda refused to consider that it might be a defect and said that even if it was, it didn't matter as my car wasn't under warranty. I asked to speak to a manager several times and was refused.

Had ac condenser replaced in vehicle. One year later and the ac is not working again. Took vehicle into dealership and they told me it was the compressor. Quoted $1500 to fix. I declined and contacted corporate. Dealer called and asked me to come back in because they wanted to check it further. Inserted dye in ac system. Told me there was no leak, but when I asked them to check again they stated there was a leak in the evaporator. Submitted claim to Honda and they denied my claim based on the fact I have only had one Honda, I don't go to the dealership for regular service, and because it's not under warranty. Confirmed that nothing was ever wrong with compressor and they admitted this mistake. Want $2000 to replace evaporator.

My 2016 Honda civic only has less than 25000 miles, the ac had not working since this summer, after I took the car to schaumburg Honda in illionis, they said the condenser is find but compressor has a leak which will cost over $1000 to be fixed. I decided not repair but still was charged $140 for the inspection. Totally not acceptable!

I was driving the freeway at 70mph when suddenly all the indicators went berserk with 6 different problems appearing all at the same time. I went from 70 to 40mph without doing anything. I went to the shoulder to stop and these problems appeared: power steering system (eps), vehicle stability assist (vsa), hill start assist, emissions system, brake system and brake hold system. It scared the hell out of me coz the cars behind me started honking at because of the sudden reduced speed. It could've cost me my life! It was only at 1195miles when that happened and did nothing that may have caused the defects. I am on a three year lease and it has only been less than 2months since I had the car. There is an active recall on the fuel pump for Honda Civics. My car fits within the range of time of manufacture, but my VIN does not appear with any recalls. The vehicle shakes when starting and will stall most of the time. I can turn it off and turn it back on and the car will start okay, but if I accelerate too quickly or drive too fast or for too long the engine will stall. I have been driving on the highway before and the engine stalls and I have to pull over. The car can be turned off and started again okay, but it’s a safety concern when it happens randomly on the highway with plenty of other cars around.

I am still having brake system issues and not allowing me to gear and drive! Since letter for recall in november, which already set appointment with dealership to reprogram or reboot system they stated would take care of,I have been back twice after that. I also have issues with the warning exclamation light flashing and was told all's fine the new cars are sensitive when take. My bluetooth connect acts up all time where not even being able to use amenities paying for with car.I'm pissed because now outside movie theater with kids and stuck again break locked. I experienced a total catastrophic failure of the transmission with less than 55000 miles and only 5 years and 1 month old. The transmission needed to be replaced.

Car allowed itself to be turned off while still in drive. Upon leaving car it rolled down incline into another car. My husbands Honda (2011 crv) does not allow the car to turned off in drive nor does it allow the key to be removed from the ignition while still in gear/drive. *tr

Crack in windshield 5 months after purchasing the car from dealer. Was told it was not covered under manufacture or extended warranty. Replaced, and one year later, replacement glass has crack. Replaced and two months later, glass cracks after hit with debris from freeway. Is this a design flaw in the design of the car? Does this fall into the "lemon law?"

Driving into a small town at approximately 45 MPH sounded like a gunshot went off inside the car. The sunroof had exploded. No traffic was around. Nothing hit the roof. Only a small amount of glass fell into the car. It had blown outward leaving a hole in the middle with the edges sticking up. Drove directly to dealership about 15 minutes away where the car was purchased new 6 months earlier. They said they had never heard of anything like that occurring and it was a insurance claim and not hondas responsibility since we couldn't prove it wasn't a rock. My vehicle break some time docent work....lighting is not proper and engine does nice even I do servicing and mention them but it got ignored by service center

I bought a Honda civic 2016. I notice that my front LED light maker does not work only left side work and it is about to go out too. Sometime it goes on as its please. And air condition does not blow cold air . I hope they recall all these problems..

On July 19,2021 I purchased a complete 4 set of tires from Pensacola Honda and the service advisor knowingly put the wrong tires on my vehicle and i Didn't notice until today that they were wrong tires that i purchased. tires put on vehicle: Continental pro contact 215/50/R17 CORRECT TIRES SIZES: 215/55/R16
