Service 4wd warning light illuminated. Google search for recall indicated that 2016 Jeep Cherokees had a recall for this problem. However, our specific VIN was not part of recall. When calling the manufacturer, I was advised that if the dealership could verify our vehicle was having the same problem as the recall, we could receive assistance. The advice was followed and confirmed, but when calling the manufacturer back, I was told that that was not how things work when dealing with a recall and since our VIN was not part of the recall, they could not do anything. I filed a complaint with NHTSA in April 2024 to no avail. We have brought the vehicle back to the dealership to see if we could have the problem fixed, and although we can, the parts are on back order. I can only assume because of

Similar to other Jeep cherokee year models, my 2016 Jeep cherokee slips out of gear into neutral while driving, either between 1st to 2nd gear or 2nd to 3rd gear. Makes for a dangerous ride with my 2 children in back and the car basically stops working and cars in back of me have to slam their brakes so to not run into me. This happens randomly, whether car has been driven for 10 minutes or just started.
I brought my vehicle to the dealership back in november and they diagnosed it as the power transfer unit failure. There was a recall but they said my VIN did not fall under it. I had them order the part and they keep giving me new eta's on the part. As of today they have informed me that there is such a demand for this part they have given me a new eta of february 4th 2021. The dealer acknowledges that this is a known issue so why isn't my vehicle covered. Now I will need to rent a car for at least a month and a half if there eta is correct which it hasn't been the last 5 times. I believe this should be a recall as they can't make this part fast enough for the demand. I previously put this claim in but have not gotten any response. I believe this is a major issue possibly not being reporte
I keep having 'service shifter' pop up where the speedometer is. It originally popped up about 3 months after I purchased the vehicle. It pops up at random times while the vehicle is moving. I have taken the vehicle in 3 times to have it looked at. The first time they replaced a wiring harness. The second time they said nothing is wrong. And the third time they cleaned a connector. After all three times I took the vehicle in the car was fine for about a month, then the message came back.
The 'service shifter ' icon was illuminated as well as the gear selector indicator lights. This is the second time this has happened. After reviewing web sites this is an inherent problem with the Jeep cherokees.
Approx. 68,000 miles, owned for 3 years, regular maintenance and inspection. Vehicle in motion on city streets turns to neutral after the first few right turns. Gear shifter automatically shifts to neutral after the car's warning system reads "shift to park" while the vehicle is in drive and in motion. To restart the vehicle, the driver must place the vehicle in park, turn off the engine and restart it, however the battery light flashes. This has happened three times in as many weeks, all while in traffic. When taken to Jeep dealership mechanic, no code shows up on OBD. After online research, many owners of Jeep wranglers, (as well as latitudes) have had this same issue. There is a consensus it may be a result of a poorly implemented failsafe that Jeep installed when the engine oil is

Started hesitating and did it at random times. I had a tune up done and it continued. I thought it was the transmission and took it to the transmission shop and they didn’t find anything wrong with the transmission. Started losing power and hesitation became worse while in traffic. Now it’s hesitating while stopped at the traffic light and not accelerating when taking off from a complete stop and not accelerating while merging. I brought it to the dealership in Lakeport, Ca. 95453. When I brought it to them the start stop warning lights were lit up on the dash. The start stop feature is creating the problem. I’m being told by the dealership that they can’t disengage the start stop feature. This is a safety hazard and I’m concerned it’s going to create engine problems. Apparently it’s a na
Purchased vehicle on 12/14/2015. On 1/25/17, at 17,000 miles the vehicle stalled while driving through an intersection. It was raining heavily and causing a traffic issue. Law enforcement had to be called to re-direct traffic. Since the first stall, the vehicle has been to the local Dodge/Jeep dealership four times for the same issues (4/20/17, 8/18/17, 3/25/18 and 12/4/18). They have replaced coils, filters and explained the engine will shut down if it senses low oil. They continue to state the oil consumption as the reason for the stalls. They have no solution but to bring the vehicle in every 1000k miles to check the oil. The vehicle stalled again on 12/25/18. Luckily, I was in a parking lot and the vehicle behind me was going slow enough to stop. If not, I would have been hit
Service shifter warning. All gears on shifter are light red. P r n d
The Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) system is locked in engaged mode and I am unable to release the EPB causing the car to be immobilized.
Service shifter message appeared in the center display and is lock in place, not being able to scroll through the menus any longer. Next to the shifter all lights for shifter position are illuminated and you cannot see which gear the vehicle is in anymore from looking down at the shifter. This has happened multiple times mostly while in motion but has also happened while stationary. The message including all other indications can go away with a full shutdown.

Service shifter light appears while driving often; I have taken it to the Jeep dealership on several occasions and there has not been any finding resulting in a solution to the error (as it disappears and comes back on multiple occasions). Often when the service shifter appears it causes the vehicle to jolt or not shift
Transmission was replaced at 20k miles it has still continue to stall while driving causing hard shift and stalling in the middle of the road almost causing accidents.
Cracked windshield. No visible impact mark. Parked car at home and when came back out there was small crack coming from bottom driver side going up. Later on when actually driving the vehicle the crack randomly started getting bigger and went further up and then split to the side until reached edge of windshield.
I purchased this jeep in 2018, the service shifter light came on the car shutdown in the middle of the road while my daughter was driving she was able to get into a parking lot. We had the bezel and wiring harness replaced in January 2019, right after this happened. I now have the jeep and the shifter service light will randomly come on along with the service transmission light. When this happens the transmission will not engage and I have to make my way to the side of the road and put it in park and then the transmission will engage again.

When driving my 2016 Jeep cherokee the vehicle has died out completely on me in the middle of driving. While driving there is a ding noise followed by a message on my dash board that says put car in park then switch into gear, when I am already in drive and driving then the car stops and the brakes and steering locks up completely the battery light flashes then the whole dash goes black. Then I have to trying turning it over a few times and then it will finally start with no warning lights on or anything after it just locked up and died. This vehicle has died several times on me while turning right, while just driving, and in the middle of intersections. I took it to a mechanic and there is no indication of this happening as far as codes that can be brought up or anything but when he test
Driving at night in the rain on the highway 60 MPH. Lost power steering, brakes, forward warning collision and other controls. Lost control of the vehicle crash into the embankment. Almost rolled the vehicle. Dealer stated steering modular failed and replaced steering rack and pinon system. Dealer stated 12 active computer codes shut down all of above functions. Vehicle engages emergency break and service transmission while in motion'reducing the speed to 0. It forces a restart and once the restart is done vehicle will make abrupt sounds while shifting gears. Steering will become stiff and vehicle will do this on regular street road or highway making it dangerous. Once vehicle is restarted a few times sensors clear out. It's become unsafe to drive.
This is in regards to my 2016 Jeep cherokee latitude. In the last 4 days my car how just completely shut off 3 times on 12/23/18, 12/26/18 and 12/27/18, while I was driving, probably would have been 4 times but I didn't drive on christmas day. The first 2 times it happened I was leaving my work parking lot driving no more than 10-15 MPH. Today 12/27 my car shut off while I was stopped at a stop light . This happens with no warning at all! Luckily no one was behind me when I stalled. I have seen many people on social media with this same problem! The dealership says it could be an oil issue, so they are just doing an oil change and they said they recommend bring the car back every 1000 miles to check levels!! What kind of solution is that ? I have young children that I drive to school! I
brakes 1 complaint shown
In multiple occasions the vehicle engaged automatic breaks while driving without any obstacles around. Some of those were accompanied by a break warning in the dashboard. In all cases, the break disengaged, and it was possible to continue driving the vehicle. It was lucky that there was no car close behind, as it would otherwise cause an accident. The vehicle was taken to an auto repair shop. They were able to replicate the behavior but were not able to pinpoint the cause.
